As incredible as the game is, some of the open world stuff to me feels like stuff to consume between Dark Souls castles

Yes, i agree, and as much as i like it, there are vast swathes of nothing/wasted space given the open world nature.

Thats not only a design but CPU-stress decision. If there was an exciting encounter every 100 yards, you'd get worn out making it from A-to-B, also the loading of information to the memory would be nightmarish and probably not possible.

Even so, the exploration is always exciting. AND THAT, IS ALL THAT MATTERS.

I honestly don't think the Legacy Dungeons hold their own to even Demon's Souls from 2009. But its always going to be hard to top your best album!

I think my main question about replayability would be: the previous Souls have typically required about 2.5 playthroughs for the platinum, but surely not this time...?

I don't know the ins-and-outs but like Bloodborne there

    are multiple endings.

Not sure about this (been playing RPGs for decades and hard cap has always meant you can't go any higher, to me) but it's probably not that important in the grand scheme of things so happy to agree to disagree!

Who ya gonna trust, "an RPG fan", or me, who has been schooling and jolly cooping Souls games with these wonderful folks of rllmuk since 2009? ;)

That's not what hard cap means though. Hard cap means you either can't upgrade it past there, or upgrading it past there has no effect at all. Do you mean 70 is a soft cap?

Hard Cap does not mean END CAP (aka Dex Level 99), it means there is little-to-no-value in levelling any further. Before 70, levelling Dex was giving 3-4 points increase on weapon damage, now its only 1 point, that equals HARD CAP!

'Soft cap' is that tasty sweet-spot on stats for players who want to min/max and keep their build at an optimal capped level (all Souls games before this, it was around SL120 for PvP etc). I imagine the level might be higher for this game.

  5. Personally i wouldn't go the Quality route in this game.

Choose a weapon art you like then spec into one skill when you assign it, changing the parameters. That way you only have to concentrate on pumping one stat.

The hard cap for STR or DEX is 70. I know cause i have 70 DEX and its diminishing returns from here on out.

c'mon, thats a bit of a spoiler. If you didnt know it was in there, put had played the rest, you would be looking for it.

and funnily that is what i was referring to with my post a few posts up. and am tempted to respec for it lol

    Sorry, i've spoilered it now.

I assumed everyone knew of its inclusion, because its part of the legacy.

  7. I find it difficult to comprehend and articulate how grand this game actually is, so-much-so, i choose to only post the regular stuff about stats/parameters etc., of which i know plenty.

The scope of it, is the sign of a super confident production studio at the top of their game, and what they've created is utterly mind-boggling!

I can't remember who was asking earlier but the brass covered armour set I was wearing earlier is called the cleanrot set. Just youtube search for it. There's plenty of guides. I basically farmed two mobs (The blood blade ashes murders them) for about 20 minutes for the full set. Super close to the grace point and riding between islands is key. Torrent can't get the rot

It was me, but i've since checked the stats and its too heavy for my current build. I'll grind it at some point.

For now the Carian Knight (Altered) set is doing me just fine and it looks nice with blue shawl i'm wearing.

Had to immediately stop working and do this, of course.

So it seems for now my best damage would be to remain on standard scaling.  Seems like stats being 20 or higher is where the specialised scaling will start to overtake regular.  Choosing blood sacrifices a big chunk of damage, so I might actually forego bleed for a bit until I can put some points into Arcane.

(I'm also assuming eventually there'll be whetstone knives that'll allow my to put INT/FAI/ARC scaling onto any weapon)

If you're using a Claymore you should definitely go Hard and pump STR or Quality if you wanna keep DEX on a even keel with STR.

Also, what might be 'C' added parameters at +5, will likely be 'B' at +10 etc.

I'll be interested to hear where the soft/hard caps are over time as I think they might be a good bit higher than we're used to. Would make sense given how much bigger the game is, I suppose.

My Dex is at 55 without the Great Rune buff, and its still showing an increase with every Soul Level, so definitely no diminishing returns yet.
