We binned that off, for once I dont blame Conte - we have more than half the squad going away for the murder ball cup and could do with a decent result at the weekend to carry us into the Jan window….

Yeah with many of the most important players having an excellent chance to go deep into the World Cup I'd rather not be playing another round of League Cup fixtures 2 days after the WC finishes.

I haven’t looked at Spurs yet, but I remember we had 9 of our starting XI in the semi-finals in Russia in 2018. Trippier came back carrying an injury which he played with the whole of the next season, and Dele Alli never actually came back at all, having been replaced by a doppelganger who didn’t know how to play football at some point during the tournament.

I guess Kane, Son, Richarlison, Hojbjerg, Bentancur, Davies, Romero and Lloris as definites barring injury, Dier as a probable, and Emerson Royal (inexplicably) as an outlier, so possibly 10 of our starting XI. This gives an advantage to teams who are knocking on the door in the league now, and have fewer starters going, especially if teams have a lot of players that end up going pretty far in the tournament. The final is on 18th December and the PL starts again on Boxing Day.

You can add Perisic to the definite starters too, he's been playing LWF for Croatia, so that's a full XI.

As a Spurs fan I obviously hate this man. I wouldn't even like to see him managing another team. I'd rather he just never showed his stupid bearded face ever again.

I might be a bit irrational.

    Just a little ;)

I don't hate him, he was never the man for the job but he couldn't turn it down once offered. He was a product of Levy not wanting to put the money up for Conte from the off, which of course cost the club more in the short-term anyway.

Playing a match a day on a grass pitch isn't going to do it much good.

They can if they have the pitch technology that they were developing alongside those air conditioned stadiums.

They could have developed them with interchangeable pitches, like the one in Sapporo but with more spares to pop in.

Have a thing with Japan tops and just bought this beaut. YMMV.

I mean, I was never going to get a Leicester top this year...

Love the reversible jacket they've done as part of the collection:

  6. Coming on to face tired legs is just the tonic Son needed, and switching up the midfield to a 3 helped to take the control of the game off Leicester when they were looking threatening.

I don't want to ever see Perisic at RWB again 😅

The entire Creative Cloud suite has a splash page based on this new series. I’m guessing Amazon threw them a bunch of cash to feed us adverts through our work software now. I can’t really be arsed complaining, but shouldn’t some of that money go towards making the subscription cheaper? I don’t really want to be force fed ads.

I expect they've got a partnership where the show is using Creative Suite for everything (where feasible) post-production wise and it'll get used in Adobe's advertising.

Shaw over Sessegnon also seems a bit silly, given that England are probably going to be playing with wing backs, and one is a fresh option playing that position regularly and in good form, and the other is well known to the manager already, in poor form, and not playing for his club.

Sessegnon has been called up for the u21s, they probably want to keep that cohort developing together leading into the Euros in the summer, rather than bringing them through piecemeal.

You're right, maybe after the World Cup! Also Deschamps hasn't bothered with club football for ten years. He might be terrible.

I think with Allegri not really doing well this time around the stars are aligned for him to finally return to Juventus, probably next summer.

Jose is coming back for sure.

Two unlikely left field contenders might be Deschamps or Hansi Flick?!

Don't imagine either will leave their job 3 months before the World Cup.

Jose round 3 would be hilarious but he actually seems happy at Roma, not sure he'd want to leave for another miserable job in England.

Agreed, the 8 point gain is a comforting stat.  I just wonder what happens to our turgid, counter-attacking football when the better playing teams come along - we could be in for some beatings.   But on the otherhand, I trust Conte and his staff to have a plan and perhaps we're doing almost exactly what we're meant to be doing.

I don't think so, the defence is solid and the counter-attacking play still seems to be functioning fine, it's when the team is expected to build an attack slower where the problems arise. Son's current form being trash isn't helping, but missing Romero and Bentancur especially hurt the system against West Ham. Saw the pass map on SC, it makes the problem really clear:

When the team is playing well the pass maps are more evenly distributed:

    kx1a9655b5g91.thumb.jpg.0c643048628c38d6b0861e6963753fe0.jpg

As well as the obvious massive arrows at the back, look at how how isolated Son is, how flat Sanchez is comparatively to Romero v Liverpool (indeed you can see he's still much more flat v Norwich compared to Davies too), and how little interplay there is on the right hand side. West Ham effectively shut down the whole right side by cutting off Sanchez, and with Son not firing on all cylinders the left side wasn't providing enough threat to even them out.

I do think there's more Conte could have done though, and I don't really know why he didn't. Sess for Son and switch Perisic up the field, Doc or Spence to replace Royal later on and boost the energy on the right, for a couple of examples. Maybe some fatigue issues, or possibility of going out of the club for Doc (and perhaps Sarr)? I dunno, maybe he just thought "fuck it, they can get themselves out of this mess".

Still, got a point, and things will come back together again, just hope it's sooner rather than later.

  12. Good to see him take on the challenge of a different league, could help him get out of the rut he's been in.

Reg has gone off to Atleti on loan too today, so that's all the players who were on the main out list gone. Think Tanganga & Gil might also go before Thursday but if not they can still fit into Conte's plans. Looks like Sarr will be sticking around too, maybe as a backup to Skipp who's going to need to really be eased back in after being out for so long.

Still his film trajectory is ..wild. I just want to write it down..debut Mad Max at 34 years old in the late 70s. Two more. Then the Babe and Happy Feet films in the 90s and 00s, childrens films that have working with animals and working in cgi animation, how does a director make that transition.

The Witches of Eastwick and Lorenzo's Oil are both quite different to the rest of his output too, an incredible range of styles he's tackled over the years.

I've been going down a bit of a rabbit hole with men on youtube ranting about how their beloved LOTR has been ruined by shills/sheeple/liberals etc. Apparently the character of the main female protagonist in the books was pretty weak but in this show  WTF?! she has a sword and acts tough etc. So apparently it's 'Rey Skywalker' all over again, which I don't get as she was a new character? I'm not joking by the way but there are dozens of these videos on youtube. At this point it's not a surprise of course but I find it quite funny in this case, I'm sure they didn't make videos about Baz Luhrmann's Romeo and Juliet messing around with Shakespeare's material etc. It's LOTR, come on.

Galadriel has always been one of the most powerful beings in Middle Earth, so much their supposed "love" of Lord of the Rings.

  15. D: Eintracht Frankfurt, Tottenham Hotspur, Sporting, Marseille

Gotta be getting out of that group really. With Eintracht losing some important players over the summer the aim really should be top spot.

  16. Good interview with Udogie in case someone missed it:

Lo Celso confirmed out on loan again, Ndombele almost out the door to Napoli too!

Given that the club is pretty much a soap opera anyway, adding Veronique Rabiot to the whole mix seems like tossing petrol onto a bonfire.

They should go and grab Mauro Icardi, get him and Wanda in the mix too.

Oh definitely, I'm sure it's a play to try and pressure de Jong to accept the previous terms, regardless of whether they really have evidence of dodgy dealing or not.

So they've discovered "evidence of criminality" in the contract they offered him, and think that he should suffer the consequences of the criminal stuff they did? Right.

Not the current administration, the previous one under Bartomeu. Bear in mind that administration was raided by the police and removed due to an investigation into corruption and misappropriation of funds.
