The genre is science fiction though - naming every generations sci-fi a "punk" subgenre is daft to begin with, and of course they age and go out of fashion - most of the time sci-fi is about reflection of the present anyway, a way of examining contemporary issues, and three-decades-ago issues aren't today's issues.

Who cares what the genre is anyway? Or indeed whether the concepts are "relevant" to contemporary issues. Using a particularly framing device to tell a story is possible no matter what era or fictional backdrop you wish to set it in, and it can be judged on its own merits.

  2. I think that threats, SWAT raids and job losses are a lot more important than just "spectacle" really, considering they are actual real things happening to people. As opposed to just the content of the art being criticised, which is actually leading to the critics to receive these threats when they are pointed out. How are people supposed to focus on the content of these games and make critisism when they fear for their lives for trying? I think that issue of people being unable to do that without being harassed is more important to tackle right here and right now. But, you know, maybe that's just taking "sides".

  3. This game has taken over my life. I popped in this thread a few days ago but people were openly discussing spoilers without tags so I'll just reply on the end here...

So far if I was to use the Edge rating system, I think I could comfortably rate the Souls games thus:

    Demons' Souls: 9

    Dark Souls: 10

    Dark Souls 2: 8

    Dark Souls 3: 9.5 (yes I'm cheating.)

I've not played Bloodborne yet but I'm pretty confident that's going to be in the 10 camp.

  4. The clever visual reveal in the first scene playing on your expectations was actually the best thing in the episode I think.

Mike stuff was ball clenching again. Overall actually not as good as last week's but if only because it felt like it was an episode or two away from a satisfying season finale.

  5. I did AW first go here. Alone. 8-)

For anyone who read my last post spoiler an update to the hilarity:

I've been putting down my summon sign at the start of the area and the trap that got me good is currently killing every single person who's been summoning me. I've not progressed past it with anyone yet because of this and I'm too busy pissing myself laughing to put down a warning.

I put my summon sign there then so I already watched it kill 5 people in a row which has been great fun. However, the last person who just summoned me must have already known about the trap along with the second person they were waiting near it with - so they summoned me next to it, ran down, then it still got them both on the way back. I could barely breath

  6. I just got killed by a:

Rolling boulder that came down behind me. I heard it, but didn't react in time and got knocked off the platform. I thought, God damn you From! So I went back there carefully so as to get my 20k souls back, and then dodged to the left of the boulder's path and grabbed my souls, thinking I was oh so clever, only for the boulder to come back the other way and knock me off the platform again.

  7. I woke up super excited today. Why? Becuase now t's the weekend I finally have a full day where I can do nothing but play Dark Souls 3 all day with impunity.

The sun is out today and I don't give a fuck.(Sorry sun bros.)

  8. It was my first game of Android, yes - I think our enjoyment of it was improved massively because we had time to dedicate to it and took the time to really get into our characters' motivations and unique abilities. We read out all the flavour text for all events and cards played for our characters as well which added to the atmosphere immeasurably. I think without that it would have simply been a very good game.
