  1. But surely you can understand the mentality of "trading in an old game whilst buying a new one to make the new game less expensive"? Same difference.
  2. But have they never traded in an old game at the same time to get the price down? Removing the pre-owned market would stop this, and unless they start getting more pocket money, they'll be buying fewer games.
  3. Well, for adults with disposable income, yes. For kids saving their pocket money I can see it being quite a big factor.
  4. I'm saying some people do, yes. And given the amount of pre-owned games available, not just a few people, either.
  5. Indeed. Similarly, I don't see the difference between buying a second-hand car, and stealing one. It's just hurting the car industry. Seriously though: when most people buy a new car, they usually consider the net cost to be (cost of car - resale value). Same with some people for games. Take away the option to resell, the full-price game market is going to be affected. Will people just say "I'd better spend more on games" or "In that case I'll buy fewer games"? I don't know, frankly. But either way I don't like it.
  6. A bit off-topic, but last night in Animal Crossing (US version), I met "Shrunk" who told me: "I wear yellow on the outside because yellow is how I feel on the inside" which is the first time I've seen a reference to a Smiths lyric in a Nintendo game. Nice to see someone on the localization team has good taste in music, anyway.
  7. Fantastic stuff, really enjoyed it. Mad props or somesuch to all involved.
  8. Ridge Racer 6 demo now up on the American marketplace. (To access it from the UK, create a new Silver profile on your machine, but say you're based in the USA. Use this profile to download it)
  9. That's interesting - could you provide any examples of, say, a puzzle that was just translated that would have to be changed for a Western audience?
  10. Good review in the Guardian today:
  11. According to this, it won't support Java, Flash or PDFs.
  12. Which for me just made the time (in season 2 I think) when he put on a *terrible* English accent all the funnier. I love the Wire, I think it ranks as some of the best television I've ever seen, but you absolutely have to watch it from the start of season 1. I have to take issue with "bland actors delivering so-so performances" though - are you thinking of anyone in particular? I think Jim Shelley said it best: "[...]The Wire is so intricate, it makes The Sopranos look one-dimensional and is a show so well-written and well-acted (with not even the smallest bit part out of place) it is probably

Similar things are happening in America: some stores are just doubling the price of the packs, no extras.

  16. That's the date on my order confirmation email, I think I may have placed the order on the day before though (Sunday).
  17. Preordered the premium pack on Oct 3.

    Mario Kart Ds

This may already be known, but I was kind of expecting the wireless configuration to be stored on each cartridge. Well, it's not, it's stored on the DS itself, which should save some fannying about.

    Mario Kart Ds

So far I've had one online race with two others, and came second on every track, and so second overall. My stats say won one lost one, so I presume it's how many people you've beaten / lost to rather than races won and lost - does this sound right? It's a fantastic game, by the way. The kind of game that makes you want to burst into applause.
  20. Mario Kart: 107434 034462 Be warned, I'm terrible at this game.

    Xbox 360

Ah, sorry. The confusing thing is that there isn't a red "buy or reserve" button on the premium pack page, which is obviously sold out, but it's still there on the core. Apologies.

They look like they're still taking pre-orders for the core pack, and this from their premium pack page:

If anyone's desperate for a 360 on launch, Argos are still offering the core pack bundled with PDZ and King Kong for £280.
  24. Don't know if this will be use to anyone, but I've got a Netgear WGT624 (providing the wifi network) connected to a Netgear DG834 (connected to the internet, provides IPs etc), and it all works fine. I could try the DG834 on it's own later on if anyone would be interested. Don't worry too much about the star ratings, I think if it's got one star it'll work but might need some fiddling with settings etc (see here)
  25. Picked this up last night (bless Curry's and their vague grasp of the concept of release dates), and after my initial worries about wifi - Nintendo has rated one of my Netgear routers as 1-star - it just worked without having to change anything. I have quite a weird setup with 2 routers (don't ask) but it handled it fine.
