Didn't know they were taking orders back then. I thought they didn't start until 22/10
That's the date on my order confirmation email, I think I may have placed the order on the day before though (Sunday).

Preordered the premium pack on Oct 3.

This may already be known, but I was kind of expecting the wireless configuration to be stored on each cartridge. Well, it's not, it's stored on the DS itself, which should save some fannying about.

My stats say 13:32 Win/Loss ratio. I'm not sure what that means exactly as I don't think I've won that many races.
So far I've had one online race with two others, and came second on every track, and so second overall. My stats say won one lost one, so I presume it's how many people you've beaten / lost to rather than races won and lost - does this sound right?
It's a fantastic game, by the way. The kind of game that makes you want to burst into applause.

Be warned, I'm terrible at this game.

Argos appear to still be selling the Core Pack at first glance, but when you try and order one it says, 'this item is not available for store pickup or for home delivery". so i guess that means it's not available at all.
Ah, sorry. The confusing thing is that there isn't a red "buy or reserve" button on the premium pack page, which is obviously sold out, but it's still there on the core. Apologies.

I noticed Argos where mine has been pre-ordered (and charged so it had better arrive on the 2/12) have stopped taking them now...
They look like they're still taking pre-orders for the core pack, and this from their premium pack page:
We are unable to take pre-orders for this product. However the Xbox 360 Core System (see below) is available to pre-order for 2nd December.0 -
If anyone's desperate for a 360 on launch, Argos are still offering the core pack bundled with PDZ and King Kong for £280.

.::: Maybe we can also keep track on confirmed working routers.
The Thomson SpeedTouch 510 in my case.
Don't know if this will be use to anyone, but I've got a Netgear WGT624 (providing the wifi network) connected to a Netgear DG834 (connected to the internet, provides IPs etc), and it all works fine. I could try the DG834 on it's own later on if anyone would be interested.
Don't worry too much about the star ratings, I think if it's got one star it'll work but might need some fiddling with settings etc (see here)

Picked this up last night (bless Curry's and their vague grasp of the concept of release dates), and after my initial worries about wifi - Nintendo has rated one of my Netgear routers as 1-star - it just worked without having to change anything. I have quite a weird setup with 2 routers (don't ask) but it handled it fine.

.::: Crap. :S Maybe the router will only accept predefined connections? IE set up a 'slot' for the DS?
Most of the advice I've seen for getting Mario Kart to work online has been along the lines of:
- Give the DS a static IP
- Put the DS in the DMZ
- Try different channels
Here's someone's guide from the Nintendo forums to set up a Netgear router, it might be worth a try on other brands?
Thanks for putting up those DNS numbers. I have a WTG624 NETGEAR router and
that was the only piece of info that was missing to set up everything
manyally in the DS. As for the router I put a static IP for the DS and put
it in the DMZ. That was getting me connected but with a extremely bad signal
strenght, specially when my wi-fi enabled laptop was around. After reading
your thread I finished putting all the manual settings in the DS and now I
get a better signal.
For anyone with a WTG624, here's a snapshot of my router settings:
DS IP: 192.168.0.5 set static and in the DMZ
And in the DS:
Gateway: 192.168.0.1
Mask: 255.255.255.0
IP: 192.168.0.5 (This has to match the IP you gave it in the router)
DNS1: 4.2.2.2
DNS2: 4.2.2.3
And WEP and SSID depend on how you got things set up at home. For these two
values check your router's wireless settings.
Hope this more detailed posting helps anyone.

The Netgear DG834GT! It should work.
Well, you'd hope so. Looking at the compatability ratings (here), Netgear generally seems to do quite badly.
But! Looking at this message, they're looking into it:
And a note to Netgear users, Nintendo and Netgear are working together to make the routers more compatible. There's no ETA as to when the routers will or can be made more compatible. And here's someone who's had success with his Netgear router, with details of how he did it.
Part of Nintendo's faq worries me, about opening up your firewall...
Required network protocols, ports and addresses for networks to be compatible with Nintendo DS Wii-Fi capability and the USB AP adapter.TCP: Allow traffic to all destinations on ports: 28910,29900,29901, and 29920
UDP: Allow all traffic to all destinations. (Necessary for peer-to-peer connections and game play)
...is this safe?

From Kotaku:
Oh, and the Toshiba folks also spilled the beans on HD-DVD and the Xbox 360, saying that the next-gen console will use the new format for its media and whining about how Microsoft is dragging their feet on the official announcement.which I read as supporting HDDVD as standard, rather than a future revision. I *really* want this to be true...

Only Crashlander mentions the bloody stuttering which is the game's biggest bugbear. This is what I am arguing has not even been mentioned or covered.
So it's only mentioned the once? How many times would have suited you?
Problems in game which I have never experienced with any other game ever should really be covered, don't ya think?Actually, no. No I don't. Imagine seeing the following story five times every month:
"Small minority of players of latest ambitious PC game are experiencing temporary problems: patch and driver updates awaited"
Not interesting, and I think you can safely assume it holds true for all PC games, unfortunately.

What is more of concern is the only two articles in Edge this month to actually mention the mess of the installation through Steam and the stuttering are in Red Eye (who's views do not represent Edge) and Crashlander, a comic at the back.
Now, I've only skimmed the issue, but:
p20: "The launch of Half-Life 2 ... dogged with problems"
p24: In Continue / Quit - "Quit: HL2 authentication"
p27: An entire RedEye column about the installation (incidentally, so what if his views "do not (necessarily) represent Edge"? Are you imagining readers thinking to themselves "Hmm, RedEye is 'Installing Half-Life 2', is he? I'd be interested in reading some more about HL2, but I'll skip this as I don't want my brain sullied with possibly-non-Edge views thankyouverymuch"? They still printed it, didn't they?)
p126: Critical letter about Steam, with Edge's response: "Steam ... has made life painful for hundreds, if not thousands, of PC owners"
p128: Half-page cartoon entirely about Steam installation and sound stuttering problems
If Edge are trying to cover something up, they're doing quite a bad job of it.

GTA:SA's mark also includes* this pearler from "Christ Centered Game Reviews" which suggests it is a "digitized form of Satan".
*EDIT: oops, no it doesn't. Still, interesting review all the same.

I love adventure games, but this article on Who Killed Adventure Games? does make a valid point about where some of the games were going.

So is Ridge Racer going to be controlled with the touch screen? If so, I hope it works better than I'm imagining it will.
