  1. The end of Torchwood was just ridiculous. I could have just about accepted the giant rock vagina as a dramatic conceit if they'd found a reanimated Owen down there frantically rutting it. I think RTD is just too big and scary to be script edited. The only notes I could imagine coming back on that final script would have been 'You do realise that even within the constraints of the fantastical premise you've created this makes no fucking sense at all, don't you?' And to basically echo everyone else in here this last batch of Who episodes have been just stunning.
  2. Next year is apparently going to be much more story-of-the-week, Moffat deciding they'd gone enough in the big-arc direction for now. I thought the casual dispensing with of Hitler was brilliant. Rory's 'Shut up Hitler!' may have been the line of the series.
  3. The name Tom Boss made me laugh.
  4. Yeah, I was sure it River but now I just don't know. It's going to be something weird and timey wimey. I bet it's the Doctor.
  5. I know I'm probably missing the point, but aside from all the ace computer equipment they already have, where did they get that huge spare server? Did they just order it from Amazon? Even my wife, who isn't into SF at all said 'God, it's Torchwood, just go with it.' I also kept wanting someone to go up to the sinister skinny hitman with the black suit and huge sunglasses and say 'Excuse me, are you a baddie?'
  6. I'm still watching it but I'm not sure why. It seems to be treading a line of inoffensive professionalism - kind of midway between Torchwood 1 & 2 (offensively dreadful) and Children of Earth (best it could probably ever be). It's clearly going to build towards a Oswald Danes/Captain Jack final showdown which will be hamstrung by Barrowman's total lack of range. His 'emote level: appalled' face in ep 3 when Pullman was shocking him by describing his crime was amazing. Someone needs to make a gif of it.
  7. Alastair Reynolds is writing a Doctor Who novel! http://www.guardian.co.uk/books/2011/jul/27/new-doctor-who-novel-jon-pertwee I guess in a world where Greg Bear is writing a Halo book anything is possible.
  8. What CurryKitten said. The backpack is a great idea - we're going on holiday in a couple of weeks with the nipper and are getting trains and a taxi at the end. So I'm going to have to lug a MASSIVE car booster seat about 300 miles. We got straight online to buy one of the backpacks but they start at age 4.
  9. It's a fake, apparently (and I suppose obviously). Very well written and funny though. *disappointed*
  10. Only saw a couple last year but loved this. I've realised that to enjoy it you just have to go with it and not worry too much about the why's and wherefore's. I love the fact that you never know quite where it's going to go. Like when he's standing at the crime scene in the alley and deduces who the murderer is in the crowd just using the force.

Totally agree about the Regenerator. It's like it was tacked on after a brainstorm about four weeks before sign-off. It's also the worst-designed monster in the game. If it ever stands still for long enough for you to have a look then it's hilarious. I think what I'm trying to say is that I hate it.

Yeah, for me the best stuff was in the second part of the game. I'm enjoying the second playthrough far more than the first though.
  13. I remember there being some daft rumour last year that said there would be a shape-shifting zygon in every series 5 episode but you wouldn't find out until the end.
  14. No, but I've just remembered I've got that on DVD somewhere. *rummages in drawers* *then goes to find dvd*

Yeah, stasis and my plasma cutter are maxed out. I've split my other nodes between the ripper and my rig. I guess I just wasn't in the mood for it last night.

    Dead Space 2

OK, I'm a long-standing friend of the Dead Space, but I've reached the end-of-game boss in this and am getting no pleasure from it AT ALL. But still...grrr.
  18. Not much to add really, but last night's was HAMAZING.

I'm with you on this one. Chapter 7 is where it really started to get its hooks into me.

    Dead Space 2

Just starting chapter 13. Getting quite into the plot now (finally) as I was finding the story a bit less engaging than in the first. I've a feeling I've now reached the stage where the game just starts throwing stuff at you though. I sold a bunch of stuff to get the next suit up, but think I'm going to go back and just buy lots of first aid and plasma energy instead (having just fully specced the cutter so it now sets people on fire). I went through the door after the shop and just got minced about three times, even though I looked the business.
  21. Definitely one of the best things on TV right now. But...
  22. It was funny when the audience started off booing Bob Crow, then were cheering him 30 seconds later. It made me think of Mayor Quimby in the Simpsons. "You people are idiots!" *crowd cheers*

I found the A lot of that may have been nostalgia though.

Up to chapter 10 and really enjoying the attention to detail in the environments. The game got a lot less stressful once I realised that the ripper solves pretty much all your melee problems, and that I should be buffing up the status module before pouring nodes into weapons and the like.
