  1. Gonna download this, sounds excellent. The creationists have been sending Attenborough some pretty nasty hate mail, mind.
  2. You are having a LAUGH if you think Restless isn't a top ten buffy episode! Apart from that, it's a great list (about 8 of those episodes are my most watched episodes of the show), better than most peoples ones. I'd drop Hush down a little and stick The Gift higher, and there's many episodes better than End of Days (which does get a good rep, but I find it hard to remember - many of the season seven episodes kinda merge together in my memory). Incredible series, anyway. Lets not get too busy with discussions about the worst episode. For some reason every single online discussion about Buffy turns into a debate about the worst episodes/seasons. You don't hear Charles Dickens fans constantly talking about his worst books now, do you? Oh and, Once More With Feeling. If I'm honest, I don't see that episode of tv ever being beaten by anything else. It's not as brilliant on a storyline level as, say, some of the best episodes of the West Wing are (although the storyline of OMWF is very good) it's just that, the songs are so good.
  3. Saw this last night. Admittedly, I was pretty tired when I went in as it'd been a long day. Got bored about 25 minutes in. By about 45 minutes in I knew I wasn't a fan. Fell asleep for most of the last half of the film. Maybe if I saw it was I was more alert I'd have enjoyed it more. But I have a funny feeling it's one of those films I'd normally just keep fast forwarding through because it trundles along too slowly. I love gay rights issues, politics, campaign stories and all of that, but this was a let down. I'm sure the West Wing would be boring too if I was watching it whilst half asleep, so ultimately I'll choose against giving this film a final 'rating'. Shouldhavejustgonetosomebarsinstead/10
  4. I like the new Franz single. It's catchy!
  5. Multiple personality episodes of TV shows and films are always hard to believe, but generally pretty good once you get into it. See Primal Fear, Fight Club (to a lesser extent for this sort of thing), that episode of the X-Files, that episode of ER etc etc. Oh and Toni Collete rocks in every film I've seen her in.
  6. Were 'Combo' and Woody just friends then? And yeah I think his name was Woody. Not sure why I had him down as the younger brother.
  7. You know the main skinhead baddie. His younger brother (he was about 19 in it). Sort of the leader of the kids. Used to be on Emmerdale or something apparently.
  8. These stories seriously make MMO games sound fucking awesome. This is the kind of experience I'm after, not something like MGS4 or whatever where everything is kinda laid out before you and you just play it through. And not GTA4 where the sandbox gaming is incredibly limited when compared to this stuff you guys are talking about.
  9. "We shot a deer. In the woods near Lake Mattatuck on the second day. There was a special vest they had me wear so that they could distinguish me from things they wanted to shoot, and I was pretty grateful for that. Almost the whole day had gone by, and we hadn't gotten anything. Eddie was getting frustrated and Bob Shoemaker was getting embarrassed. My camera guy needed to re-load so I told everybody to take a ten minute break. There was a stream nearby and I walked over with this care-package Natalie made me. I sat down and when I looked up I saw three of them; small, bigger, biggest. Recognizable to any species on the face of the planet as a child, a mother and a father. Now, the trick in shooting deer is you gotta get 'em out in the open. And it's tough with deer, 'cause these are clever, cagey animals with an intuitive sense of danger. You know what you have to do to get a deer out in the open? You hold out a twinkie. That animal clopped up to me like we were at a party. She seemed to be pretty interested in the twinkie, so I gave it to her. Looking back, she'd have been better off if I'd given her the damn vest. And Bob kind of screamed at me in whisper, "Move away!" The camera had been re-loaded and it looked like the day wasn't gonna be a washout after all. So I backed away, a couple of steps at a time, and I closed my eyes when I heard the shot. Look, I know these are animals, and they don't play bridge and go to the prom, but you can't tell me that the little one didn't know who his mother was. That's gotta mean something. And later, at the hospital, Bob Shoemaker was telling me about the nobility and tradition of hunting and how it related to the native American Indians. And I nodded and I said that was interesting while I was thinking about what a load of crap it was. Hunting was part of Indian culture. It was food and it was clothes and it was shelter. They sang and danced and offered prayers to the gods for a successful hunt so that they could survive just one more unimaginably brutal winter. The things they had to kill held the highest place of respect for them, and to kill for fun was a sin. And they knew the gods wouldn't be so generous next time. What we did wasn't food and it wasn't shelter and it sure wasn't sports. It was just mean." Oh and: [reflecting upon the wording used on a formal invitation] Casey McCall: "October the Eighth, Nineteen Hundred and Ninety Eight, A.D." A.D... They're worried I might accidentally show up 2, 000 years before the birth of Christ.
  10. Sounds sterling. It better not be made by ITV though. And that smooth talking boy (the younger brother of the skinhead) better be in it.
  11. The Fantastic Mr Fox is AWESOME. So, so, so good. I love all the descriptions of food, it used to make me so hungry. Not sure about a movie version, but this thread has made me wanna read the book again. So many delicious chickens.

    Singstar PS3

Haha cool. Yep, first time I've played it. It's brilliant how it can get ANYONE to start singing, even people who would normally never even sing if no-one was listening. I like I Predict A Riot where you have to get really high about halfway through. Oh yeah, that 'Ha ha ha, ha ha ha' (Pussycat dolls? and Will.i.am) song is brilliant!
  13. I think the people who write this stuff are skilled too, it's just that the network will only pay for shows that follow a formula. In this case, the 'Detective with a special skill' formula that's been done about 500 million times since Monk. And it's not just the premise, every episode will follow the same structure as every other one, and the main characters backstory arc (which is no doubt something to do with his special skill) will be filled out gradually throughout the series. It's writing by numbers.

    Singstar PS3

This game is brilliant. I love it. Got the PS3 version with about 4 packs, some for PS2 I think.
  15. The plot is fantastic. It's a complex personal story, with fantasy characters, in a sci-fi world. It's got some cool influences too, in particular the reign of Artemisia and Mausolus (real people from greek times). These are some coins that used to be used back in their day: Star > Artemisia (real figure) > Rinoa (you see her first and last pointing to shooting stars, her limit break is called 'Wishing Star' Lion > Mausolus (real figure) > Squall (lionheart, griever, etc) There's a lot of other greek and latin influences in the game too. Ultimecia's castle is full of those cool paintings with latin names that you have to decode. VIII is set on an entire planet, obviously there's not going to be one big shared culture on that planet. You've got the modern cities, the smaller towns, the villages, seaside towns, and the massive futuristic continent (which is where all the stuff about space travel and the moon came from), which is blocked from the rest of the world. Each has their own feel, which is something I liked. If you go to each place after the storyline there is done, people say some pretty cool things. I think I went in every building in some places whilst leveling up for the final battles just to hear what people had to say. Anyway, the theme of this game is love. The theme of most games is 'shoot'. Pretty big difference.
  16. Squall had some great dialogue: Squall: Are you done yet...? I don't wanna talk about it. What am I supposed to say about other people's problems? Quistis: I'm not asking you to say anything. I just want you to listen. Squall: Then go talk to a wall. Quistis: Aren't there times when you want to share feelings with someone? Squall: Everyone has to take care of themselves? I don't want to carry anyone's burden. Quistis: Squall. It's not like everyone can get by on their own, you know? Squall: ...Says who? ... Seifer: Who cares. This must be your first real battle. You scared? Squall: I don't know. I try not to think about it. Seifer: I love battles. I fear nothing. The way I look at it, as long as you make it out of a battle alive, you're one step closer to fulfilling your dream. Squall: What? Your dream? Seifer: You have one too, don't you? Squall: ...Sorry, but I'm gonna pass on that subject. Fun facts: - The main characters in FF8 each had disorders applied to them (almost textbook definition exact) - Seifer wanted to be a knight because he saw Laguna's movie (look at the battle stance Laguna does closely too, Seifer mimics it)
  17. Everything in FF8 was years ahead of it's time. Even Selphies haircut became really popular about a year or two after the game came out. As well as Squalls clothing: silver mens jewellery, undersized black leather jackets, studded belts, cleavage tshirts.
  18. Editing is a tough, looong job that doesn't get appreciated much. David Fincher uses Final Cut Pro to edit his films now, doesn't he? He did for that serial killer film anyway. So it would be cool if the Best Editing award goes to a film edited with widely available consumer software rather than a million dollar editing suite.
  19. That news article was amazing. I want in on this game. "Thanks for all the fish", ha. Especially loved the stuff about the other bank offering to help, and the bank having cash reserves.
  20. The first one was really good, I thought. 8/10. The second was a 7/10 and the last was a 6/10. This one will probably be a barely watchable 5.
  21. Actor In A Supporting Role Tropic Thunder - Robert Downey Jr. WAT Is the Reader that good then? It's snubbed Changeling, Dark Knight, and The Wrestler.
  22. I would bet that this little 10 second script excerpt was more entertaining than the entire pilot of Lie To Me. Your little script is pretty perfect for a sketch comedy, actually.
  23. Why the hell do they insist on forcing every cool idea into being another detective show. SNORE.
  24. It's basically The West Wing set in a daily sports news show instead of in the white house. I'm not really into sports, especially american sports, but I still like it. So will YOU. So long as you're a liberal. I've seen the first three episodes so far, and I'm liking it. Every episode has a great monologue that gets my juices flowing, episode three had the best one so far about a characters experience in hunting. Ignore the canned laughter, apparently the network insisted on it and it gets phased out throughout the first season. I don't even remember hearing any in episode three, actually. [Fun fact: I have Joshua Malina (Jeremy in Sports Night, Will Bailey in West Wing) as a facebook friend. He's pretty cool (and yes it IS him). Although I think his slapstick comedy persona in the first two episodes of Sports Night were a bit weird.]
