  1. Well, I'll still play on Xbox. I'm thousands of LY from the bubble, so it'll be fun to at some point get back. I remember playing the BBC Micro version with my brothers in our bedroom, with the curtains closed, and really feeling like we were in a spaceship with a massive galaxy to explore, pretending the bunkbeds were part of the spaceship. Pretty sure we never got much further than backwards and forwards between Lave and Zaonce trading computers or something. It's pretty amazing they recreated that feeling in the 2010s and it felt the same to me, the balance of how the ships control, and flying around star systems, part realistic, mainly unrealistic of course, allowing you to suspend your disbelief. If you are 40 something then Elite: Dangerous can feel a little like a glitch in the Matrix, showing that nothing much really changes over time. Love this game. And the sound design. Oh man! That's got to be a lesson in game design right? Just goes to show what a combination of relatively simple elements + scale can do (that mad stat that only 0.02% of the galaxy has been explored or whatever it is). And the little nuggets of narrative or an amazing looking system you come across so rarely, feel all the more special because they are rare.
  2. Elite: Dangerous is the daddy. It’s had a great run tho. Obvs it was all downhill from when the introduced the Engineers.

    Yeah I like them.
  4. I know nothing about the games, but it’s £4.99/month and the first month’s a free trial. Plus in iOS 13 you can link an Xbox One or PS4 controller to your iPad or iPhone. https://www.apple.com/uk/apple-arcade/ Are any old the game going to be worth it?
  5. I enjoyed this but not as much as the first one (which was an unexpected pleasure for me). I agree with the comments re CGI, sometimes it went too far and beyond the 'suspend disbelief' stage so you were just sitting there smirking at it. Was this intentional? It didn't seem like it - but then there was a heavy comedy element throughout, really helped along by Bill Hader who I thought was great in it. I really hated the scene right at the start, that establishes the return of violence and bad things to Derry. I think it was just about justified, but it was a bit close to gratuitous too - I know it's in the book as well (which I haven't read). The length didn't bother me, I was absorbed throughout. I think it was made with real passion for the source material as well, that came across. I do think it was a little bit of a missed opportunity to do more effective scares. I love horror when it gets under your skin by hinting at wider sometimes not openly acknowledged fears and scares, eg the racism/abuse/guilt stuff that's under the surface in Derry. This film went a bit too far over to carnivalesque spectacle.
  6. Holy smokes, that video was cool. The dragons look amazing.

    Portal 2

Ha ha, that was pretty funny (and also right). Nice.

    Portal 2

No. But you do got a bit faster if you jump a lot. I think she walks a bit slower in Portal compared to Portal 2, as well. At least on the 360 versions.
  9. I'm trying it again sober.
  10. This game is quite hard after a few beers.
  11. Don't worry guys, it was just because I had my GameCube controller plugged into my Wii. Nice one, Activision. Thread resurrected.
  12. I can't even get past the screen that says 'Do you want to create a save file?'. I think my Wii is broken. This thread is over.
  13. I'm just getting the plastic wrapping off. Pretty excited.
  14. I just got this. I hope it's good. Reports to follow. I know there's another thread but fuck you this is different. Thanks guys. Ur the best.
  15. I think you got explored on Flickr. I just clicked on to Flickriver, and this pic was the first one up.
  16. FYI Selling my D5000, a 35mm Nikkor lens (AF-S), and a PowerShot S90 in case anyone's interested: http://www.rllmukforum.com/index.php?showtopic=230419
  17. If the sensor is up to scratch and has nice high ISO performance, then I'd be really interested - mainly because it's so small. Not sure about the £500 body only price though. That seems just a touch high for their entry level model. Could get a D5000 with lens for that. Or it's only about another £100 to a D90 body, which has the focusing motor and can use all those nice cheap old manual lenses (lots of which are pretty small as well). If it's a nice jump in image quality over the sensor that's currently in the D5000 and D90 then it might be well worth it.
  18. I want a Nikon D3100. I wonder how the sensor will perform. It's the first update to Nikon's sensor in their cheaper DSLRs for a while I think. http://www.dpreview.com/previews/Nikond3100/
  19. Actually I'm quite enjoying these purple coin levels now.
  20. I've got all the stars apart from the purple coins levels. I'm not sure if I can be bothered with the purple coins. It's the first time it's felt like a collect em' up. Is it worth it? I guess I get Luigi if I get all these purple coins or something do I? Maybe it's just time to move on to Mario Galaxy 2.
