  1. I've never been what I would call harassed in Waterstones. Maybe that's just my particular local though.
  2. Was this chap really into what he was talking about though? I think the thing here is that for what people working in retail get paid, do they want to invest their own time in learning the products, especially when its maybe just a stop-gap job? Even with training it must be difficult. I worked in a computer shop on TCR during the Amiga and ST heyday. I loved the products and so everyone I spoke to got first class service and advice. I don't think we get that now with the way many companies only seem to employ staff on a part-time contract. When I was in retail it was a bit of a career, now it seems less so. We expect good service obviously but I can't remember the last time I had, in a retail store, what I would call good service.
  3. Doing a bit of a walkthrough on my Youtube channel if anyone likes to watch people play and waffle crap at the same time. http://www.youtube.com/user/SuperBitsandBob?feature=mhee
  4. I can't believe two games like this exist. The two Soul's games have more genius design, style and punch the air moments than most games put together this gen. Not for years and years has a game taken me from despair to exhilaration so many times. I love the way each new level and boss feels almost impossible at first encounter but slowly you suss out how it all works. It took me 15 attempts to kill Ornstein and Smough but when I did I hadn't felt anything like it in a game for a long time. Regardless of the resolution its running in the area's are the most impressively designed since I don't know when. The framerate takes a hit sometimes but the atmosphere, scope and scale is mind-boggling. I died so many times in Sen's Fortress just looking around me. Blight Town is almost beyond imagination in scale. I wandered the Painted World for hours even after I'd cleared it all out. I doubt I'll ever finish it as I'm not sure I have the stamina but it's special and unique. Lets hope for more.
  5. Indeed but ID don't seem to have moved on much.
  6. Yeah I can imagine. Going into it expecting anymore than an ID shooter will cause disappointment. They have incorparated some ideas from more contemporary shooters but have mostly stuck with what they know. Tried the latest Nvidia beta drivers, 285.38 I think, with no noticable gain or loss in any way.
  7. Had a couple of hours on it now and well, it's no more than pretty good. I'm enjoying it but it has settled into a formula of fetch quests and it seems as though it may stay that way. So far anyway each quest sends you across the wastes to a specified area where some corridor combat action takes place until you complete the quest. The combat feels nice and weighty (especially the shotgun) and the AI I have found to be suprisingly good from the melee enemies. They will dive and swerve as they run towards you and if they get close can be a handful. The range enemies though mostly just stick their heads up occasionally for you to take a potshot at. All of the weapons so far look nice and feel good to use. One thing you notice immediately is how enemies react to where they are shot. Its very impressive. Currently using a pad but may switch to kb/m. One thing I've noticed is that back-tracking is kept to a minimum. Each area has a nearby exit when you reach the quest objective. Voice acting so far seems pretty good but as mentioned the quests are nothing to write home about and the game hasn't made me feel involved in much of an ongoing story. Driving feels nice and smooth in an arcadey sort of way but in the campaign anyway so far it's mostly just for getting from A to B. I really like the art style. Some of the textures are very poor while some are amazing but overall the style wins out as it's very nice to look at from that perspective. It's funny but it all feels different. Whereas some games can seem quite similar in how they look and feel there is something about this engine that sets it apart. It looks quite unique and I would like to see it used in other games.
  8. No problems on a 580 so far here with 280 drivers. Runs lovely and smooth and have noticed no texture popin. However trying to record gameplay in FRAPS brings in to effect all of the problems I've been reading about. I'm about to try out the latest beta drivers.

There isn't such a thing as an established team now though for a club in our position. Even had we won one of those PL titles it would not have stopped Fab or Nasri going. Not in my opinion anyway. I honestly don't think we could have won it last year. Regardless of injuries our form and confidence had gone. '08 was a great chance though agreed. Unless there is a massive shift in football and teams are forced to properly live within their means, we can expect the same of Wilshere, Ramsey, Ryo etc in a few years. Don't get me wrong though. I've been a big supporter of what the club is doing but this summer has been a complete farce. Buying Cahill + a Mata/Hazard type character would have greatly increased our chances of qualifying tonight and being in the mix at the end of this season. It does begger belief really what they have done so far. I'm going to cut them some slight slack and suggest that maybe, just maybe there are 2 or 3 players waiting to see if we qualify tonight first.

Nothing would be as bad as being a Spurs fan, no matter where we finish. I don't think we were really holding our own though. We've remained in the top 4 but rarely threatened the Champions. I understand how you feel about what appears to be an apparent slide, but I think that what's happening is that Man City have come along and the club realises it can't get anywhere near them (or ManU and Chelsea) and so is taking stock again for the future. It is frustrating as we appeared to have been building towards something for the last 6 years but the money has killed that dead. Can you imagine our position now if Abramovich and the Man City lot had not come along? It's just bad luck timing really.

Remember at times like this it could be worse, we could be Spurs fans. Seriously I think that what's happened this summer is something we need to get used to. I don't actually think that spending £50-60mil now is going to make much difference to our chances of winning a trophy. The FA Cup and League Cup maybe but Man City effectively have two very good sides they could play on alternate weeks and get a positive result, ManU seem to have perfected the balance of young/old, money/development that we seem to be struggling with and Chelsea are spending again. As for the CL, forget it. I honestly don't think it is now worth us going mad. What we should have done though as an absolute minimum is to make sure that we qualified this season (which I think we still will) and to invest to make sure that we are 4th next season. They don't even seem to be doing that at the moment though which is worrying. Every team has goals and expectations at the start of a new season and ours are now lower than what they were during Arsene's early period in charge. We just have to tighten our belts and accept that there are now 3 teams that we cannot compete with. The club have to take some blame but effectively the money in the PL now means that trophies are effectively dead for the 17 other clubs unless you get very lucky.

I love this from some website about Spurs "cheeky" bid for Mata: "Arsenal are still in the driving seat to sign the Spanish international as they can offer Mata European football, while the best Tottenham can do is show him photos of their 1984 Uefa Cup-winning side."

Is it me or does the price touted around seem well off when you look at whats happening at the moment. I'd have pegged him as a 20-25m man in the current climate.

10 goals and 18 assists is hard to argue with. I agree his overall game wasn't fantastic but sometimes you need someone who will just do what he did.

Even though that is from the most contemptable, rumour stirring shit in Spain, it all sounded too good to be true.

I know Arshavin got a lot of flack last season but Gervinho will have to go some to match his figures.

I think he'll just rotate in any of the front positions until RvP gets injured.

Isn't he one of these players that would end up at Chelsea or Man City? With the hype he has had I don't understand why either of those teams aren't throwing money at him sadly.

It's tough though isn't it. If he says that and Barca countinue to take the piss and he stays, we have a player who has effectively cut himself off from the fans. Him stating publicly he wants to go doesn't bring the situation to a close as Arsenal still want what they want.

Fab will be worth the same next season and he is still on a long contract. We would hopefully just say no sorry, come back next year if they leave it that late.

There was a story on Sky this morning about us bidding for Mata? Would we be happy for him to come in and Nasri to go? Had a good season for Valencia.

Wasn't there something about the signing on fee or wages that Parker was after were extortionate that stopped a couple of moves? He's commited as you say but if Fab stays then he would be in place of Song or Wilshere? Not sure Arsene would be up for that.

Nasri has looked commited in the training videos and pictures on the official site so hopefully his desire to perform outweighs anything else.

I think another defender is the best we can hope for on the transfer side of things. They have said they are working on it "night and day" apparently so they are aware its a problem. I can see Vermaelen filling in for Gibbs more than Traore (assuming we are after a CB) and is Jenkinson more of a risk than Eboue? Would Ramsey be playing Denilsons part this season?

Do you think that a lot of last seasons end of season problems were down to our best players not playing enough? The spine of the team spent a fair portion of it injured. Vermaelen didn't play at all, Fab started 29 games in all competitions and was substitued in a fair few of those and RvP started 33 across all competitions. To be there or there abouts (which we were until the last few games) you need your spine to be starting 30+ league games, not just 25-30 in all competitions. Even Nasri missed 10 league games. I don't see us weaker at the moment. Wilshere will be better, Ramsey is fit, Vermaelen and RvP (for now) look fully fit and we've signed a pretty exciting looking forward and lost a cronic mistake maker in Clichy. I'd love a CB to come in and the club have stated they are working on it but things don't look to bad.
