I don't get your point in all honesty. The problem with the transfer market is that since Chelsea and now Man City have been taken over by oil barons the top players, and their agents especially, try to wangle the best deal. As a team who can't pay the highest wages a top player like Yaya Toure for example, will always go to a club who can pay him the most. In Man City's case they can pay him close to 200k a week. That's primarily why Adebayor left. As Wev stated we have always been a club who has bought sensibly. I believe even Bergkamp's career at the time was struggling if you can believe that. Arsene is quoted as saying that many agents are always knocking on his door, it's just not going to be the agents of players like Messi, Kaka or Ronaldo. We don't operate at the level.

I saw Lansbury a bit in the reserves and watched a few games for the teams he was loaned to when they were available and he was alright wasn't he? I think all he could have done for us would have been a job but it wouldn't have been any good for his development. He isn't good enough to be considered a starter and I wonder how much the players themselves have to do with it. Maybe he could see he would only ever be bit part and requested a move. It's seems in these situations its immediately the club or Arsene's fault but maybe he didn't want to be sitting on the bench.

I don't see how that changes the fact that all of them became important first team players around the age of 16/17 and so had the ability to do so. If you mean whether it was right to introduce someone to the physical efforts of playing in the PL at 16 then that's another arguement.

I can't speak for Ronaldo but Fab made his debut at 16 and made 20 something appearances the following season and didn't look out of place. This was while playing with the Invincibles pretty much. I don't disagree with what you are saying though. For me Wenger and Ferguson are the best managers in the world and must have had a massive influence.

Did I say that? I was talking about Fabregas. What I do know is that Fabregas made his debut at 16 and is our youngest ever first team goalscorer. At 17 he made 20+ starts in the PL and was awesome. Rooney made his debut at 16, as did Wilshere. Messi made his debut at 16 odd I believe and is the youngest Barca player to score a league goal. These players were ready and had the ability.

I think the hallmark of a successful club is a balance between buying wisely and developing players, which I think ManU for example try to do (although they do have the money to spend £30m if its needed). Arsene has stated on many occasions that agents are knocking on his door every day with players wanting to play for us. Players like Messi? Probably not but its mostly about the money now and why would you come to Arsenal for sub £100k a week when Man City will pay you double?

As an Arsenal fan I'm making assumptions about Ronaldo for which I apologise although I do seem to remember him making an impact pretty much immediately. Fabregas is a product of Barcelona. There are many videos of him and Messi doing their stuff in the Barca youth. He came to Arsenal with pretty much everything he needed to get where he is today. I'm sure Wenger has influenced him greatly but the ability was already there. He is just one of those freaks of nature like Messi, Rooney or Wilshere where they are almost born with it.

You make that sound like its a massive criticism of Arsenal but how is it any different to anyone else. Who else is producing even a reasonalbe amount of young talent through their youth system that ends up as regular first team players amongst the big clubs? No one. The youth academy is for the exact purpose of finding a Wilshere in amongst the ok players. That's the reality. If there were enough players out there with the talent to come up through the ranks at Arsenal or ManU and be the next Wilshere then surely teams wouldn't be spending what they spend. As for transfer dealings. Well, I'm assuming you are talking about the incomings as Arsene has made absolute fortunes on bringing players for peanuts and selling them for millions. He has also been proven right so many times about when a player is either not up to it ability or attitude wise or have had their best years and moved them on, normally for a profit.

Rafael and Fabio aren't a product of the ManU youth system are they? Ronaldo wasn't either as much like Fabregas, he was pretty much the finished article when he arrived. De Laet signed a couple of seasons ago? Much like some of the Arsenal players who came through the youth system, the players you have mentioned will probably get games in the Carling Cup or when needed through injuries but the bulk of the ManU first 11 is made up of experienced players who they payed millions for. There's nothing wrong with that and its not a criticism, I'm just saying that the ManU youth system is not really any more productive than Arsenal's. No, not really.

I'd be very surprised if any of them make a career playing for a top PL team in the future apart from the twins. Some of them also were hardly brought through the ranks.

That's never going to happen though is it. I don't think its possible for a club to be able to continually produce enough good talent to come up through the ranks and into the first team and do a sufficient job. Lighting struck with ManU and West Ham were very good at it way back when and according to Guardiola, Barca have a Messi cloning factory. Realistically all we or anyone can hope for is a Wilshere every now and again. Arsene has invested in youth but not to the exception of everything else. In fact if you look at the strongest 15 players give or take, more than half of them have been brought in at 20+ years of age. Arshavin, Nasri, Koscielny, Vermaelen, Sagna, Chamakh, Rosicky, RvP, Fabianski and now Gervinho. Wenger has used age as a tactic to deflect criticism away from the team but over the last 2-3 years he has slowly added 20 somethings until they make up the bulk of the top players and mixed them in with some of the youngsters good enough.

Are they any better than our efforts though? Wilshere is imo far better than all of those with the greatest respect to them. Gibbs also looks a cut above if he can stay fit and the likes of Frimpong, Eastmond, Miquel and Afobe all look to have great potential. Remember our youth team have won the Premier Academy League two years in a row. Outside of the club and fans Arsenal don't seem to get enough credit for young talent. Maybe because the stigma of only playing foreign players still hangs over the club. I really hope Frimpong makes it personally. Not only are there a ton of great fucking songs there waiting to happen, he seems a real monster albeit a bit all over the place at times.

Realistically how many young players are coming out of those clubs (aside from Barcelona) who are good enough for a top PL team? ManU had a bonanza of young talent come through in the 90's and West Ham used to be well known for their youth development but now?

    Arsenal

I thought the Ronaldo thing was based on Queros being at ManU. I don't think the youth system at Arsenal is any different to any other club. Out of 1000 young players, probably only a very very small % of them will be good enough to play for a top 4 club. I guess they hope that every now and again a Wilshere will come along. Wenger must have made more profit than any other manager on buying for peanuts and selling for millions. I know at the moment words like profit and business are anathema to Arsenal fans but it has helped us get to this point with the stadium and financial stability.

Its not so suprising. He threw his weight around in the reserves but didn't do a lot on loan. Apparently he has a bit of an attitude as well.

    Arsenal

I think Koscielny could be that type of player for us. He seems to have been hit with the fans hostility bat for some reason and while he hasn't been a Vidic, he has had a pretty good first season. Vermaelen will probably be our Vidic if you like. I don't think we buy as poor defenders as some make out actually. Sagna, Vermaelen and Koscielny are clearly good defenders, it just seems to be how they are drilled.
  17. CandyBob

    Arsenal

I think the same. Wenger generally seems to buy players that fit in with the culture and philosphy of the team and an English style CB doesn't seem his type of transfer. Maybe its what we need though as you say.

I think even in the current bloated market, £20m is high. Absolutely as you say though, to Everton who would struggle to replace him he is worth every penny. I'd rather we spent the money on Cahill who I think overall has more potential and PL experience.

    Arsenal

Indeed is it Everton themselves who said we did? I only saw the news on the ever reliable Sky Sports.
  20. The middle section of the game is by far the best. It does drop off again for the last 2-3 chapters or at least it did for me. Loved the middle though.

£10m for Jags is not that cheeky though. He seems solid enough but has had injury problems and he is by no means World Class yet. For Everton I guess they feel they have another Lescott on their hands. They absolutely robbed City because they knew they could get away with it. Arsene plays a completely different game which is why signings for us are so few and far between. I'm sure we have bid for lots of players over recent years but Arsene goes in with what he feels is the right price which more often than not is less than the inflated market wants. If we were in for a CB and we were having to pay £15-£20m then Jagielka is not the one I'd be throwing the money at.
  22. Some Blood Money scenery shots. This is amazingly my fist playthrough.
  23. My Amazon order turned up yesterday. Wasn't expecting that tbh. Only played about an hour so far and having no problems with 3D. I have it on about half and its added some nice depth to things with no ghosting so far. I may change to 2D anyway though as it can be a pain in the arse keeping it in the correct position.
