  1. I really enjoyed this last Summer, but sold it on once I cleared the campaign. What have the Kombat Pack characters been like? Decent? Any new stages added? It's deal of the week and I have some money in my PSN account, so I can grab Premium for £15. I am tempted.
  2. When is the Battle Pass Double XP... I’m around 55-60 but no way I’m going to clear this thing. R6 Siege has a mini Battle Pass event over 5 weeks and it’s drawn me away from Modern Warfare. It’s like playing a last gen game in terms of graphics and mechanics, though obviously to be expected due to the extra destruction physics. It’s surprisingly difficult to switch between the two.
  3. Uncut Gems has a lot going for it. And is definitely worth watching. I didn't really understand why Sandler's character kept making such terrible decisions and it stopped me from investing in his character. Like... I understand he was flawed, unlikable and had gambling problems, but none of the cast were likable either and it made me apathetic towards the outcome.
  4. I cba with any of the overtime challenges. Some colour-changed skins that most people will obtain isn’t much of a draw. But happy to take a break from the game until the new season drops.
  5. I imagine this opens up a lot of options to developers that were previously unavailable. So yes.
  6. Rumour is they're Kickstarting the ports. I would probably go for a Switch version.
  7. What makes me sad about these years, is it was when Danny Leigh was doing the BBC Film show. Before the Tories tried to crowbar in Camilla Long and eventually canned the show entirely.
  8. The Stranger Things one is incredible. I think there was another thread for it though. Not so fond of Dirty Dancing, but will definitely go back for another. It's like a combination of interactive theatre, bar /club and escape room. It's marvellous.
  9. I may be wrong, but... faster loading in open world means actually in-game, currently traversal speeds are limited by the speed with which the map can be loaded from HDD. Or I'm talking bollocks.
  10. SO the rumoured Feb 5th reveal probably isn't happening. Can't be long now though.
  11. The finale was sweet. And sad. A great series overall. Despite a slight dip in S4 it was remarkable concise and high quality.

    Edge #342

Edge scores are not as consistent as this. As I said on the previous page: There are innovative games that have been slated for technical issues. There are high profile/ big budget games that do nothing new which are awarded 8’s or 9’s. Reviews are ultimately just an individuals opinion is the explanation given. Which is fine I think.

The Hytale covers are nice, I haven’t heard anything about the game before so that’s something I’m interested in. /dead
  14. It’s not even this. It’s a dull and one dimensional facsimile.

The Independent & Unofficial Fortnite magazine gave it a 10/10: “an experimental and haunting adventure game.” They’re notoriously harsh with their scoring.

I’m sure any Edge staff looking at this thread will be scratching their heads like: how the fuck did this become an argument about fortnite?

This will surprise you, but the writing is not of the same quality as Edge.

So some sort of pretentious elitism about what is or isn’t an ‘innovative’ gamer’s game? If you want an example that disproves your argument, let’s go back to the FPS genre this gen - Edge have scored identikit (and largely awful) Call of Duty games 7 or 8 - until the latest one which has the best gunplay of them all but they didn’t like it. Meanwhile Siege was incredibly innovative for the genre and got a drubbing in the initial review, since slightly re-appraised. The game has clawed itself a 50 million audience and now has a ton of problems as a symptom of GaaS, but initially you could not argue it wasn’t a generational leap in terms of gameplay and physics. It was intensely unpopular here btw. Overwatch and The Division overshadowed it and neither could be described as ‘innovative’. But no other MP FPS has caught up to what Siege does with environmental physics. As for Fortnite, your comments about the pass and monetary model are definitely worth debate, but to say there’s no innovation in the gameplay is just ignorant.

Nobody is forced to play more Fortnite. Ignorance. Kinda strange they never reviewed it given they awarded PUBG a 9 or 10 right? I don’t think they should be omitting games for being ”too casual”. Or whatever.

This PC gaming argument is odd. The number of “interesting and innovative” PC games has always been high. Some of them are a success and go on to get console ports. Some never make the transition. Some of them are beautiful failures like Trespasser. There is no sudden reason for Edge to neglect areas of the console space to prioritise PC, if that is what is happening.

They could absolutely review Fortnite Chapter Two as a new game and assess the BR mode as a whole and award it the 10 it deserves. Their critical insight would be interesting.

Is this a defence or criticism of Edge? Because there are some franchises that get a pass on exhaustive coverage without offering anything particularly innovative over the previous entry. They just aren’t by big western devs.
  23. It’s Bioshock Collection and The Sims 4.
  24. Everyone is going to be rocking that skull-faced op.
