  1. For the record I always preferred the DC version (and I had both originals), but it's so long since I played them I actually can't remember why.

    Regarding disc-swapping - if you install the whole game on 360 maybe that eliminates it?
  3. That live action Tekken movie isn't a complete disaster, there are actually some good action moments in it. If you want a truly bad fighting game movie check out the recent King of Fighters one. Holy shit.
  4. Maybe, but I'm a bit precious about my fighting game characters and Ivy's descent into grotesquerie as the series progressed really turned me off (among other things).
  5. I remain interested in the series purely because of the impact the first one had one me, but after the horrible, tacky effort last time I don't have high hopes.
  6. I liked Unstoppable, but by golly it's dumb. All the way through it I was just thinking lower a guy onto the train.... Yes I know they tried that, but it only didn't work due to a freak occurrence while they were also trying something else at the same time. Can someone disable the crash zoom control on Scott's camera, please.
  7. Absolutely! Perhaps take it with a pinch of salt because twin-stickers are among my favourite types of game and I'll give anything a go, but Gatling Gears really is super. XBLA delivers 3 weeks in a row
  8. I think Star Raiders suffers a bit from the age-old problem of putting too many flight/combat controls on a gamepad. Also, the tutorial switches you between control schemes! Insanely confusing, so I quit mardily. Hopefully Gatling Gears will deliver.

  10. Love it... but it featured an incredibly mean* last boss that I never managed to beat. Having said that, I've never been the type to keep on hammering 'retry' so maybe I just never gave it enough. *
  11. Also important is picking up fruit to recharge your counter gauge. Fruit is dropped by destroyed enemies and environmental objects. Finding yourself out of counters is unpleasant! When dealing with huge numbers of enemies the strategy is to counter them with LT then scoop up the fruit they drop, thereby replenishing your counter meter in time to hit LT again for more exquisite carnage.   14. XBLA top five? Geometry Wars Retro Evolved 2 Pac-Man Championship Edition DX Rez HD Super Meat Boy . . . Bangai-O in placeholder position. Level 9 on Bangai-O was thrashing me yesterday and I kept coming back to it (I'm mentally incapable of moving onto the next level even though the game lets you). Finally found a good balance between charging up the screen at speed and hanging back. It's brilliant stuff, a real videogame.
  15. Slightly disappointed, I have to admit. I expected this Blu-ray release to be some kind of all-encompassing, definitive collection of everything (especially considering the capacity of these discs). The main thing I'm lamenting is the lack of reproduction of previous special features - in particular those from the old laserdisc box set. The commentaries and behind-the-scenes stuff from that edition have mostly never been available in subsequent releases. Unless things have been renamed this set also doesn't appear to include the two-hour+ documentary from the first DVD edition. Maybe they feel they've rendered all that old stuff obsolete with fresher perspectives, but I'm a bit of a sucker for film-related docs so it's a sad loss. I can well live without feature-length documentaries about fans and spoofs, that's for sure. Also... those covers are rubbish. Slapdash Photoshoppery with barely a thought to composition. I apologise for being the first and maybe only whiney Star Wars nerd to comment.
  16. The 'How to play' menu is actually a much better tutorial for the game than the... tutorial, as it gives everything context and visual aides. The tutorial talks about gauges but doesn't tell you which is which, for example. But, essentially Bangai-O is all about charging into danger and letting rip at the perfect moment
  17. Bangai-O appears to be everything I'd hoped for. Absolutely awesome.
  18. Sure to stand shoulder-to-shoulder with its forebears. Standard negative response sure, but what else is there to say? Seven Samurai had a genuine great artist at the helm and some incredible characters and performances. Magnificent Seven had a stellar cast, the kind you could watch doing pretty much anything. Of course the central premise is always good so it's not inconceivable that this will be worthless but still...
  19. Loving this so much I bought the first book, but I'm wondering if that's a mistake? I like to be surprised by the unfolding plot of the show, but I'd also like to delve deeper into things the way the books would (presumably) let me. Hmmm.....
  20. Game of the year so far for me. Nails everything I like to see in a platform adventure; tight controls, satisfying mix-up of abilities for movement and combat, plenty of hidden stuff, challenging boss battles that hit a nice 3rd or 4th-attempt sweet spot. Bonus is that it looks and sounds great as well.
  21. Funny Dungeon Master should be mentioned as I play a lot of custom dungeons for CSBWin and RTC, and I do map those on squared paper. Other than that, in recent years I did play through Pool of Radiance and map the towns and dungeons. But yeah... there's nothing quite like a lovingly illustrated map for a game that warrants it.
  22. I turned my draw distance down a notch and haven't had any trouble since.
