  1. I'm surprised that Outer Wilds is only at 10 considering so many people on the forum like Breath of the Wild. The two games have a lot in common (exploring and experimenting).
  2. Great write up. The game gets a bit of a bum rap for being irreverent and overly ironic in a "all sides are a joke" South Park kind of way. But I think that's the wrong takeaway from DE. This game has heart and there is a message of hope underpinning all the whacky, ironic and sometime just depressing stuff you come across. I've never played a game that wants to talk about the things DE wants to talk about. I've never seen a game look at capitalism, communism and liberalism in the way DE does. There's no way it could touch the subjects DE touches without absolute top tier writing and luckily enough DE has it in spades. Oh also it's fucking hilarious. Like laugh out loud funny. When is the last time you laughed out loud playing a game? I did so like 3 times before leaving the first building you start in. Similar to what BoTW and The Witcher 3 did to open worlds, or back in the day Doom did to the FPS, this is a game changer for narrative based RPGs and to be honest games writing in general. Disco Elysium has raised the bar.

    Outer Wilds

Thanks for spoiling the 5 hour podcast.
  4. Wow I didn't expect that score for Pathologic 2
  5. I love the narrator from Darkest Dungeon.
  6. Trying to finish off the goty list which includes: FFXIV Shadowbringers, Fallen Order, Children of Morta, Luigi's Mansion, Death Stranding and Sayonara Wild Hearts. So I'll have the list complete sometime in 2021.
  7. I don't think this is correct. Some synergies are really strong and if you manage to combine them that's great. But the game is way more about the 99 other times you don't get the strong synergies and having to come up with answers with the cards you're given.
  8. Still got some games to play but I have enough done I can take a stab at it. Game of the Year A1. Disco Elysium A2. Slay the Spire A3. Sekiro A4. Fire Emblem A5. 9. Health packs or an equivalent are not good and regenerating health is better in every way.
  10. Dota 2 is Valve' s greatest accomplishment outside Steam.
  11. Finished this yesterday and I think it might be the first Obsidian game I've not enjoyed. Just thought the writing and quest structure was super shallow, the combat was ok at best and the rest of the RPG systems (level ups, inventory, itemization) was bad.

    Disco Elysium

Yeah I think there are certain fail states that are even better than passing the checks and they're great. But the game does have some fail states that just blocks you from content, particularly the stuff around the church. Which isn't great.
  13. Nah, it's not about any futuristic stuff. It's about a city that used to be ruled by a monarchy then had a brief spell of communism which was stomped out by outside forces. Instead of "what it means to be human in the future of robotics" it's more "what it means to be someone living in a city crushed by the turmoil of various political forces". That and a detective story.

    Disco Elysium

This has more agency than Planescape, I'd say. They're both linear stories with side quests.
  15. These are the same people who will rage at Anita Sarkeesian for pointing out the same thing happened in games the other way for like 20 years.

    Disco Elysium

This just got a 10 from Gamespot. If you have any interest in writing in games play this game. It's incredible. https://www.gamespot.com/reviews/disco-elysium-review-pure-dynamite/1900-6417354/
  17. Great score for Disco Elysium. I think it's the best written game I've ever played. It's a landmark game for that sort of talky RPG.
  18. What I really need to know is how much rng there’s gonna be in the loot.
  19. I'm kind of enjoying this but it doesn't help that it feels like I've played this game like 7 years ago. Also doesn't help that I've gone straight from Disco Elysium to this and I think it's ruined the writing on me.

    Disco Elysium

This game is instantly good. Took all of about 4 seconds to endear itself to me.
  21. Really enjoying it. Downed MC and Ony twice now and got the most hideous shoulders in the game.

    Unavowed

Yeah it's fantastic, one of the best games of last year.
  23. I'm on Zalander Tribe too but as Alliance. Don't worry though, I'm of no threat to you, I'm a Paladin.
  24. Vinny regularly talks about how being a dad has changed how he plays games. Things like not really wanting to play games that require a lot of time to play or aren't friendly to 30 minute sessions.
