  1. I would imagine they would rework the Blood trail bits to make them less painful than in the original. They know people hated those elements so you would hope they would address them in a remake.

On board for this either way. I assume Rockstar are also testing the water for a potential full blown reboot of the series based on how well these perform.

  2. I'm toying whether to just go full invincible mode for the remainder of the game. I did use it for the last two key bosses, swapping back to normal in the questing bits in between, but the ghost land is a pain in the ass with reduced health and whatnot.

I think people are talking about future DLC levels. That's just character packs I think (assuming the link is right as it goes to a character pack, not a season pass).

Ah yes, quite! Cheeky bastards are releasing character packs from the spin off shows and films (and original saga characters, which begs the question why these are not included in the base game?) As well as proper DLC based on the storyline from those spin offs.

Just read this article which explains some of it:

    https://www.google.co.uk/amp/s/dorksideoftheforce.com/2022/03/08/lego-star-wars-the-skywalker-saga-dlc-packs-unveiled/amp/

Reminds me of the Prequel Character DLC pack they released for Lego Star Wars 2 on the 360.

  4. I've said this before but I buy more than I ever have since Gamepass as I'm spending more time in the Xbox ecosystem (because of Gamepass). I will say that I almost exclusively only buy stuff in sales, never full price, and very rarely buy disc based games.

I'm at a bit of a loss as I'm just at the early part of the game. I found a key and went through a golden door, then a blue one and saw a prison. It booted me outside after a cutscene and now there's nowhere else to go. I only have the sword and can't find any doors or items to use. What have I missed?

My one tip, when you see a little path disappearing round the side of a cliff/building etc keep following it round. Do this everywhere!

  6. The only thing I like about Gold is collecting the random 360 titles every month.

The Xbox One stuff I couldn't care less about (and are usually bad) but there are some genuine Live Arcade Gems here and there which you at least get to keep.

  7. On the GAAS FOMO thing running into addiction I remember getting into the Star Trek Timelines game a few years back. I swore I wouldn't pay money into it, but then I saw my friends account with his high level Enterprise D and rare crew, had envy, and paid into my first event. From there I was in on all weekly events and addicted to mindlessly running every mission, maxing out crew and spending money.

I eventually ran out of steam and missed an event and that was that. I went to return to it on a newer phone but couldn't access my account and thought "fuck that!" Probably for the best anyway although I did really enjoy the game at the time.

FH5 isn’t. It has a seasonal structure to drive engagement/challenges, but you’re not paying for battle passes or the like.

halo infinite multiplayer, is. It has a seasonal structure, micro transactions, etc.

Yep, I came unstuck on the differences between GAAS and Live Service games in that Sony thread.

From my understanding GAAS are usually F2P online games with timed cosmetic rewards locked behind a pay wall (Fortnite, Destiny 2, Battlefront 2 etc) and maybe pay to win mechanics (see most mobile games)

Live Service games are not F2P but receive regular content updates (usually free with the exception of large scale DLC expansions) and changes to keep players interested (Like FH4 and 5).

It's stuff that crosses the boundaries between both of these where it gets confusing, like Marvel Avengers. It's  a paid for game but full of cosmetic GAAS attributes. It will eventually go F2P like Destiny 2 did I'm sure.

What was last months GwG, I can’t remember if I claimed them?

Spongebob Truth or Square (360), Flame in the Flood and some god awful street football game that I haven't even bothered claiming as it looks so shit.

Spongebob is actually alright though for a kids game and I hear Flame in the Flood is great.

I think people are conflating live service games, which have continuous updates; and GAAS, games obtained as a service (for a recurring charge of zero upwards) rather than as a sold product. The two usually overlap, but I am not sure that they need to, and with business models like this you need that nuance. For example, Game Pass is GAAS but obviously not all the content consists of live service games. It’s a way of GAAS-ing existing content. Animal Crossing New Horizons is de facto a live service game but you don’t subscribe to play it, you buy the cart once.

Yep, my bad. I saw FH5 and Halo Infinite as GAAS games when they are more Live Service.

Eh!? What about the GP model doesn't fit selling consoles or big budget, open world story driven games? I mean, one of the big MS tentpoles on the horizon (Starfield) is exactly that....and the Series S is a GP gateway drug.....

Starfield feels like an outlier, mainly based on it being in development pre MS buyout. I truly suspect the vast majority of future MS titles going forward to be GAAS.

Of course, Sony have announced their intentions of going this route too with some of their games. perhaps they will put all GAAS on PS Plus day one with the traditional linear titles being launched for retail only (and perhaps on Plus months/years later after sales have died).

On the S, true, but it is a means to an end (that being Gamepass). MS want Gamepass numbers more than Console numbers.

I suspect Sony wanted to dip their toes into the lucrative subscription business but had no intention of outright competing with Game Pass. Or even feel like they need to - the PlayStation powerhouse can do its own thing and do fine.

For me, as a multiplatform owner it's pretty clear which service is by far the most appealing. But we're a niche audience here, the vast majority of PlayStation owners are probably single platform types - certainly when it comes to the more casual segment. So this service only needs to look like a good deal by itself, rather than compared to Game Pass. Because the audience they're aiming at won't be directly comparing it to game pass.

I think the problem here was the press bigging this up over the last few months as a like for like Gamepass competitor/beater, which it was never going to be. Sony is still very much focused on selling consoles and making big budget, open world story driven games which doesn't fit the GP model offered by MS, so this shouldn't be a surprise.

Ultimately a good deal for existing PS owners  Having access to a catalogue of old games is a good thing. I would hope trophy support is added to these games as well. Not sure whether I can justify another Sub though on top of everything else at the moment (and with prices going up everywhere).

  13. Finally found the hookshot last night and went running around all the areas where I saw hooks to get chests etc. I still see items on little islands and outcrops though and haven't worked out yet how to get them. I'm assuming there is a jump ability or something down the line?

Everytime I play this I chip away something else, it just feels so satisfying. This is such a perfect Gamepass game but I am easily siding on buying it to further support the Dev.

So they named the "Sanctuary District" in this episode as where Rios was being taken. That's where the Bell riots episode of DS9 took place. There's no way Avery Brooks would have come back for this though is there?

    Spoiler

There are obviously ties being drawn here however:

    1. Although set in 2024 the events of Picard and the Bell Riots themselves are months apart.

    2. The Bell Riots were in San Fran whilst this, so far, has been contained to Los Angeles.

It will be interesting to see how the events from DS9 have any impact to this, if at all, but I don't see Sisko/Avery Brooks appearing in this.

  15. I made a fantastic accidental discovery last night after traipsing round lost for a while.

    Spoiler

I found a secret route behind a cliff expecting to find a chest or something. Instead I found a whole other area to explore which netted me the fire wand and the first key (red) after beating the big sentinel boss.

What amazes me is the fact that the area I found this secret route in is accessible near the start of the game, although enemy types would have made it hard to progress further at that early point.

With the Sentinel boss, after dying time and again, I finally gave in and switched off Stamina loss and then beat the boss immediately. Rolling and evading really is the OP factor in this game. Not sure whether to switch Stamina loss back on until the next boss/spike so as not to become too complacent.

  16. I played a bit more last night.

    Spoiler

Randomly discovered that you can activate the large grey pillars with the blinking lights on them, just not sure what they actually do?

  17. I found two swords so far! One in the hero's grave area and the other in a chest behind one of those silver doors in the garden area.

I believe you can make it to a point without having a sword, there's even an achievement for doing so. Quite how you cut through bushes without it, although you can use bombs to destroy bushes as well.

It's dpad directions follow them exactly and secrets are revealed.

It also works on the grey doors

Still no idea where I'm going next mind.

Cheers for that. Found one of those puzzles in the passage between the over world and the dark forest (the first locked door you come across) that awarded me a strange little gold statue of a man and an achievement.

I love the obscurity of the items and finding out what they are as you use them. Only just realised that you can offer up certain items at shrines to grant permanent upgrades. Might explain why I was struggling so much!

  19. Apparently there are a load of secret items you can find in this which involve deciphering codes in the in game manual, standing In specific spots in the game world and inputting button combos. Not sure what these items grant you, maybe more money?

I felt the same and just wanted to enjoy the puzzles, exploration, and world so I enabled 'Infinite stamina' and 'No fail mode'.

Wait what? You can do this?
