What Is It With Games Developers And The Letter H?
Halo replied to The Liberal Elite's topic in Discussion
Indeed. I got bored one day and worked out that about 1 in 6 of my games begin with 'S' (mostly "Super" games). And none of my games begin with 'X'. -
They are the Dixons of the videogames industry. All their own stuff is shite, but they're alright at selling/publishing other peoples stuff They are the bad analogy of analogies. It kinda works, but not well enough to justify it's shite status. And re: original topic, no. Then again, I've never liked EA.

Only 10 games were released in the 9 months of the Megadrive's life, which pretty much summerises my poor first year remark.. These were: Which, to me, is a pretty poor despite a couple of great games there. Oh, and you can never insult Flicky as a poor 16-bit game - it's brilliant even if it didn't stretch the system.

Not true. The original Japanese launch games were Space Harrier II and Super Thunder Blade. Altered Beast was the 3rd released title released a month later. It is a relatively poor port of a game that wasn't the greatest to start with. Indeed, it's a good example at how bad the first year of the Megadrive's life was with only 10 games released in a whole year (all Sega-developed too IIRC). Altered Beast was replaced by Sonic as a pack-in title to encourage sales as they knew Sonic was a killer app. The PC Engine was also out when it came out, which was better than the NES/C64/Spectrum. Space Harrier and Ninja Spirit was out around that time, which had comparable graphics. You also insulted Flicky, which is simplistic but still loads of fun gameplay-wise whereas Altered Beast is just poor (even though it was released well over a year after Altered Beast). It's also nowhere near as easy to obtain - in fact, Flicky for Megadrive is quite rare and is more common in the 4-in-1 pack.

Yay! WINNAR. It's not great, but it's reasonably reasonable. Glad biglime didn't have too much of a problem playing with it once I sent it. Although it doesn't work quite right in FireFox 100% (Linkbar is slightly cut-off... I fixed that after sending the thing. d'oh), but it's still perfectly useable and I think it'll save biglime hassle if I shut up. Oh, and no link to the original page once you've left it. (ooh, correction - you have done these on a couple of pages) But I'll SHHHH now. Shh.

BigLime in hating a Nintendo product blatent non-shocker

I don't have any problem with the F-Zero X graphics. I think they've aged remarkably well, and the gameplay is still officially the best thing ever. Oh, and I didn't play it when it was new - I didn't buy an N64 that long ago. That said, I haven't played GX.
-
Well, you could buy an N64 and F-Zero X for less than the cost of a new Xbox game. And F-Zero X is absolute and utter genius.

Troll is spelt with two Ls.

Erm, that was implied...

You scare me with your big ideas and your multiple personalities

Good news. Hope it isn't just us getting our entire hopes up for them to be dashed by a heartless commission bastard who hates gamers and the entire world as a whole. But... Consolevania - 769 hits on Google. Lets see how many it'll get IN TEH FUTURE.

How dare she?!? Click For Spoiler The PC isn't a major platform!

So, We Can Emulate N64s, Arcades And Dreamcasts
Halo replied to Gabe's topic in Retro & Arcade Gaming
Don't bother. The PC vers are REALLY rubbish. Yes, worse than the Saturn versions, which I liked. -
YAY! MISSED MY POINT!1!11ELEVEN The website is called "NDS Emu". Which is a lie. It's aim is to draw attention towards the site which is, and you can quote me on this, "nothing special". There are plenty of GBA emulators out there, there is plenty (and I mean PLENTY) of documentation. If it's not emulating something correctly, they probably do know why (yay, unemulated stuff!11) and if they don't, they can figure it out easy enough (yay, open source emulators!!1). The site is pointless as it's drawing people towards something that doesn't exist. In fact, it's a worse NDS emulator than Visualboy Advance or even a PocketPC. Yay! Which was my point although I probably could have made it clearer, but I'm knackered. If it was called "Useless Game Boy Advance Emulator" (DYSWIDT?) or somesuch, I wouldn't have a problem with it. And it'd join the dozens of other near-useless GBA emulator... And this topic wouldn't exist. And all would be right in the world.
-
Visualboy Advance is open source and GPLed, and works with all current GBA games.. The one on that site, well, doesn't. So therefore Visualboy Advance is a better DS emulator than the one on that site. Therefore the site is still, well, kinda pointless and is saying "look at me... oh wait, I have something that's worse a 3+ year old GBA emulator". At the moment, it's barely more a DS emulator than a PocketPC...
-
Considering there was a GBA emulator that played commercial games before the GBA came out, the fact that something similar is happening for the DS isn't totally suprising. Edit: Wait... the site just has a crappy GBA emulator on it. Plus, I don't think any DS prerelease ROMs have appeared on the interwebnet, so... Loada crap.

Or if you have broadband, leech the torrent.

Y'know what I think would be cool? If Nintendo made some sort of encyclopedia/dictionary for the DS. It would be nice to use, work well (links via stylus, write stuff in on the stylus) and plenty of space to get the major stuff in. It would also give parents an educational reason to buy one (despite the fact they'll never use it).

The lack of a certain license (the hint is in the name)

That Lamborghini game that was in development at Rage which was finished but never released. IIRC, got great reviews too as well as looking great.
-
As a Treasure game too, it's well regarded.
-
I was agreeing with you up to this point. Penny-Arcade can be very funny... (although it's gone a bit shit again recently), while (admittedly) most games-related webcomics aren't any good.

Okay then... to put it another way... Shall we get back to evaluating marketing concepts on how much buzz they generate? Okay, lets work this out then based on posts on this forum as a measure of "buzz". Y'know, this is the amount of free advertisement this website has provided as a direct impact of their respective campaigns. So... 535 posts on the I Love Bees thread. 110 posts on this thread and the other thread in total. So, to make it worthwhile, this campaign must have cost ~5x less than I Love Bees. Y'know, I think it did.
-
So what you're saying is: Shit advertising is fine as long as it works. And this thread (and the other one) kinda proves that the £100 Nintendo spent registering those domains was worthwhile whether original or not. Tru-fucking-fax. I believe the whole medium of the game is flawed as a whole.
