  1. I've downloaded the first one again, gonna go back and give it another try soon. I couldn't stick with it when it came out as it bored me rigid, but I'm curious enough to see it all the way through this time.
  2. Yeah, the sword and the wings and stuff, that's all cheesy 80s horror pastiche. Naff, but knowingly so. and yeah, the film has it's flaws, but a lot of them work in it's favour. The indulgent, loose feel where scenes just keep going too long works to begin with, though you're right, it doesn't work for the whole film, and it does need tightening up a lot, but again, it's part of the loose grindhouse feel, and you have to be careful you don't spoil something by sanding off it's rough edges. It's not a film I'd defend to the death. I only rated it three stars, but it's a lot of fun and there's a plucky underdog spirit there that carried it through. Guy playing the clown is great. This popped up on my youtube the other day.
  3. If there was any truth to the reports of people swallowing their own chins in fright, then it could be like with new years eve when people are starting fights after four pints, maybe you get part timers going out to the pictures around halloween time, knowing that the movie studios are expecting a wider audience, expecting things will be a bit more toned down and ready for prime time. Not expecting Casper the ghost, exactly, but certainly not something as gory. Even something as small as the film grain effect, that's immediately conveying something to the audience, even if it's just subconsciously. The purposefully over the top, bad acting. The colour of the blood. That kill in the middle with the salt and the bleach. If you're up to date with the vocabulary of modern horror, and you've seen, for example, the french nasties like Martyrs, À l'intérieur and Haute Tension, that scene feels like a parody, and then you've got the mothers ridiculous reaction and Art's silent mocking laughter. Enough to soften the blow, but maybe if you're out of the loop, that'd all just feel like it was mocking your visceral reaction, and then you'd just be left with the shocking horror of the scene. I wouldn't describe it as edgy, try hard, or torture porn, personally. I think Stanley is more on the money. It's camp, knowingly excessive. It's like a drag queen at halloween, instead of sequins, they're just throwing more corn syrup blood and pink jelly up their outfit.
  4. Been playing more of Dead End City lately - https://store.steampowered.com/app/1880840/Dead_End_City/ It's pretty cool. Feels very unique. I really like the red car that you can unlock, Rockset.
  5. Yeah, I found that jarring as well. Don't make any character in a horror film ever say "nope". It's not cute, it's not endearing, it's not relatable. It makes me want to strangle the writers. To make a thing of that and then to have her minutes later doing the daft shit anyway, that's just doubling down on the idiocy. I'm more than happy to suspend my disbelief, believe that the character is giving another character the benefit of the doubt, or trying to do the right thing or whatever, but don't make that hard for me by calling too much attention to it. I think you're right, they might have been trying to do some meta winking with her going from "nope" to "for the plot!" in the space of a minute, but it didn't really work.
  6. 1ccgames (space moth, star hunter) teasing their new halloween themed game. Not a traditional shmup by the looks of it. Looks like you aim with the mouse in this one. Looks decent! I like the chunk sprite of the guy, reminds me of chuckie egg.
  7. Yes! It's a little bit naff, but very comfy so far. Exactly what you want from an anthology show like that. I've seen the first two. Second one is loads of fun
  8. Sophstar out on the switch now. https://www.nintendo.co.uk/Games/Nintendo-Switch-download-software/Sophstar-2286305.html Quite a hefty switch tax if pc is an option - https://store.steampowered.com/app/1410440/Sophstar/ Really fun game. Top Terra Flame score at the time of writing. COME ON! Team muk for the win. 499,550 - https://streamable.com/yxfx3v
  9. Mecha Ritz price will be rising after the 2.0 update, so if you're a bit hard up, buy it now and then you get the update for free - https://store.steampowered.com/app/463070/Mecha_Ritz_Steel_Rondo/ Coming November 3rd "Dear Everyone, We'd first like to thank all of HEY's fans for supporting them over these years. We are pleased to announce the release of Mecha Ritz: Steel Rondo 2.0 coming out November 3rd! We've put a lot of work into polishing this release for both PC and Console release. To be quite honest it was a lot more work and unfortunately took a lot longer than expected. The original Mecha Ritz: Steel Rondo release on PC came out over 6 years ago now. Unfortunately with these additional development costs being more than expected, we have decided to raise the price point of the PC version to match our console releases. To be completely clear, this change will only affect future purchases. That said, everyone who already owns the game will be getting all of these new updates for FREE! So more than likely if you are reading this there's no need to worry. Until then of course feel free to spread the word to all your friends! We really hope you will enjoy a lot of the new changes/fixes/updates on which we consider the "definitive" (at least latest) edition of Mecha Ritz: Steel Rondo! Sincerely, Hanaji Games"
  10. Barbarian - ***½ Stupid cunty brain wouldn't shut up singing "bar, bar, bar, bar-bare-i-an" instead of "barbara ann" "Bar-ba-ba-bar, ba-bar-bar-bar-bar, ba-ba-bar-ba-ba-bar Da-dand-da-da-dang, ba-bar-bare-i-an Blue moon" Fucking SHUT UP!
  11. Steam pages up for Truxton and Twin Cobra https://store.steampowered.com/app/2022880/Truxton/ https://store.steampowered.com/app/2022910/Twin_Cobra/
  12. That dragon thingy is out on steam if you're interested. https://store.steampowered.com/app/2086380/Miss_Kobayashis_Dragon_Maid_Burst_Forth_ChorogonBreath_DIRECTORS_CUT/
  13. Yeah. I only ever 1cc'ed it once because after that I was pushing so hard for score that I never did see the end again. Really fun to play, though I never did 100% convince myself that I was doing everything right, though I was getting lots of big golden things flying around so I must have at least on the right track. Love how the bosses will just rip a hole in time and send a huge steam train flying at you. This new "TAKEx0FF"" team seem to know what they're doing. Hopefully the input lag is pretty much none existent like their deathsmiles port.
  14. Oh, wow! Yeah, every penny is up there on screen, that's for sure. Haha, yeah, they definitely cast bad actors on purpose, or at least told them to naff up their performances. That eyebrow twisting pencil neck is so detached all through the film that you have zero empathy for him and you can all cheer later on when he's The main lasses friend looked like Joanna Newsom and Beavis got in a Brundle telepod together.
  15. Aw man, that's a shame. I found it delightful, but yeah, it might be a hard sell for genre diehards. It's definitely one of those films that is billed as horror but is doing something else within those confines. 4 bagger for me. I do wonder how much of that is down to stealth publicity for the film. Once you get the ball rolling on something like that, your fans will run with it like it's an inside joke. https://www.change.org/p/moms-against-terrifier-2
  16. I don't know. I'm not sure it's that cynical. I got the impression that these guys are big fans of old-school cheesy horror films and enjoyed all those gory set-piece kill scenes and the practical effects and makeup and tricks that went into them.
  17. Yes! Good to finally get confirmation. City connection's Akai Katana port coming to PC as well.
  18. Terrifier 2 - *** I'm assuming all those reports of people vomiting in the ashtrays and climbing up themselves in fear has all just been stealth marketing. Everything is played for laughs. The blood is jelly red, the acting is awful, and it all feels like a freddy sequel in all the best ways possible. The guy playing the clown is great. Some of his physicality reminded me of Ade Edmonson at times. Restrained when he needs to be and never too over the top. Half an hour too long, it feels quite indulgent at times in that it'll just let a scene play for way longer than it needs to. That feels good early on but by the time you get to the final reel, it's outstayed it's welcome. Could do with a little tightening up. Great fun though. It's the perfect naff horror for halloween time.

  20. Congrats! I play better hungover, and I have no idea why. Terra Flame had some teething troubles, you could use external autofire to output extra damage, and also make the charge gauge tick down slower, but terarin was really quick with the updates. Everything's working great now. Folk are having a friendly score competition on the shmupjunkie discord if you fancy joining in. Here's my best run so far. 485,600 - https://streamable.com/t0dlct Gunvein delayed until November "lowering difficulty"? What fucker said that?
  21. Thanks, I'll keep an eye out for that. The web-dl for "Pearl" is out in the wild if you're interested in that. Prequel to "x".
  22. Yeah, the 2 stars were for the first hour, really. It was nearly a three bagger for me. It was going so well (for a cosy halloween time naff horror flick). Lots of eye rolling moments and daftness, but that all adds to the fun, but it needed a good 20 minutes chopped out of the middle. A lot of wasted potential. 100 times better than the previous film, but still dogshit in the end.
