  1. Why are 'music fans' so aggressively negative about Rock Band? It's always completely baffled me. I guess most of it just comes down to being precious.

Not all of us! Played guitar for around 23 years, played dozens (if not hundreds) of gigs, and I still loved Guitar Hero Metallica :)

  2. Is there a glitch with the specializations?

I'm pretty sure I unlocked the duelist specialization the night before last, but playing yesterday it was still locked, and the means of unlocking it had disappeared.

Yeah, I've had that for quite a few specialisations now - I'd assumed it was 'cos I downloaded Ostagar last week when it was briefly available and it's got a know specialisation problem - have been hoping the problem would go away once they issue a fix.

  3. Hey, they brought that on themselves. If you get insulted by someone the natural feeling is just to be treat them the way they treat you...

Don't bring this on me mate.

So, I presume it all kicked off from SweatyTravolta's use of "nerdo"?

    Next was some rolly eyes.

    Then we get

    The Bag? Is that Bawbag!

Maybe, but a fool is a fool...

Edit: If you're really this sensitive then I suggest the internet's not the place for you.

By perpetuating the situation you are certainly making yourself look like the "problem".

  4. It should say in the letter you got back what they did. When mine recently went off, i got a newer unit back from them which it told me in the letter.

My letter just said "serviced your xbox ... per the terms of the xbox warranty" and it's the same case (same scratches on the back), but I'm having to re-install all my games or else they play from the discs, so I assume it's "new" innards.

I'm quite happy though - 10 day turn-around seems quite good to me :-)

  5. My daughter wants Excel, Powerpoint and Word as they use it at school and she often has homework based around these applications (it is optional but the term optional at Primary Schools tends to mean something different). I refuse to pay for it as I don't think it's fair of schools to expect parents to 1) have a computer at home and 2) buy this software. I know I am two or three clicks away from getting a yarred copy but I don't want to pirate it as I don't agree with the whole piracy option. My answer to her is that she'll just have to use google docs and I'll put these into the acceptable format at work where we have all these applications.

For some reason though, I do think it's more acceptable to yarr applications than it is to pirate games.

Get OpenOffice for you daughter. It's free and saves to MS Office formats.

    That's what I've done.

Edit: Did it really take me that long to read that page?

  6. I have a quick question - my xbox came back from repair, it all seems fine - but I've just realised that I'm having to reinstall to the hard drive any games I'd installed?

It's telling me it's because they can only be played on the hard drive and console they were ripped on. So, does that mean this isn't the same unit I sent off?

Got mine back on Friday. It didn't complain about the installed games, but didn't use them either - everything was playing from the discs. Deleting and reinstalling "fixes" it for me. Guess it must be a "new" machine inside the old box then.

  7. Anyone else going into a room by themselves every time they try Matchmaking in anything less than R3 cars?

    My NAT's absolutely fine.

Yep, same here. Never managed to find other players yet. NAT appears to be fine, other games are fine. Forza's crap though - storefront doesn't even work for me :-(

Very disappointing as I only got Gold for Forza in the first place :-(

  8. During an interview yesterday, Steve Ballmer was asked about Blu-Ray and the Xbox 360. I wanted to clear something up. Steve was referring to Blu-Ray accessories for the PC. As we have said in the past, we have no plans to introduce a Blu-Ray drive for the Xbox 360. In fact, the future of home entertainment starts very soon when Xbox 360 becomes the first and only console to offer instant-on 1080p streaming HD movies. With a library of thousands of TV shows and movies to choose from, Xbox 360 owners can instantly watch the movies they want, when they want, in the highest form of high definition.

In the US only no doubt.

I'm gonna be buying blu-rays as long as my broadband is limited to 2mb and all these nice steaming services are US only.

  9. Don't get me wrong, I know that the rewind option is only there for people that want it. There just doesn't seem to be any reward for the people who actually want the more hardcore experience of racing, which is a real shame.

Isn't the "reward" that you get to compete on the leaderboards?

  10. No play/pause control over cutscenes in the majority of games.

If companies have spent so much time and effort into making their cutscenes "really awesome and unmissable", I should be able to control when how I watch them in the event that I have to answer the door/telephone, have a pee, check the dinner or even just talk to my girlfriend when she get's home from work. It's really annoying that a simple thing like pausing some video is still in the minority.

Amen! I can pause my music if the phone rings, I can pause my DVD/Blu-ray if the doorbell goes, these days I can even pause live TV FFS, but I can't pause a video in a game? Should be part of the certification process - ie. manadatory.

  11. Tim Schafer must be insufferably pleased with himself right now. He's gone and made the most metal game ever. The only way this could be shaping up any better would be if it had some Devin Townsend in it.

Have you seen the rubix cube video? Yes, I'd say he was feeling smug :-)

  12. I only got the dash on the 11th and it's a huuuge improvement for me. First thing I go into in marketplace now has a 10-20 second delay, after which everything is very fast - previously I'd get 3-4 minute delays on everything I went into.
