Arcade Cabinets - Buying, Building, Modding & Repairing
phillv85 replied to Tomdominer's topic in Retro & Arcade Gaming
I’ll try to bear you in mind if it’s still kicking around and I decide to sell. I got this one from Rklok, a guy in Holland who imports them from Japan and ships them worldwide. He’s a reliable seller, but I don’t know how many CRT cabs he gets these days as even Japan is running dry now. There’s a couple of forums worth signing up to, Arcade Otaku and UKVAC. Blast’s come up every so often on both forums and there’s a wealth of knowledge on them both. -
Arcade Cabinets - Buying, Building, Modding & Repairing

Here's an old photo of my cabs. I've sold 3 of them and the other two will likely be for sale soon as we're having our house renovated and there's not really space for them with the new setup. I'll probably keep a handful of the games I've got left and sell the rest. I already sold a large number of them earlier this year. I can play games on my Vega Jr. Supergun connected to a CRT (or LCD if I decide to get the Taito Type X2 out). I was lucky when I got into arcades (2012) and games were still cheap and readily available. I had quite of few of CAVE's shooters like Deathsmiles, Espgaluda 1&2, Mushihimesama Futari, Donpachi etc. but sold them to fund a chunk of the renovation. I'd love to try and fit the Blast City (4th cab along) somewhere in the house as it's so versatile and has such a lovely monitor, but realistically it'll likely have to go. I've not had much fail on me, in fact I've had much worse luck with spare parts I've stored failing than parts that are actually in the cabs. Some more pics I've found on my Imgur uploads:- 60 replies

I say tayte in my head as well (I suppose it's actually 'tate). I reckon if tate (tartay) wasn't so close to rotate nobody would say it, like nobody outside of Japan calls horizontal monitors yoko. Whenever I'm around arcade guys the monitors are either in tayte or hori(zontal).

By all means start one, I’ll happily contribute to it. I’ve had arcade cabinets for a decade now and have tinkered with them no end so can answer quite a lot on them.

There’s a guy on Arcade Otaku been offering close to €2K for an Aero for a while with little being offered close to home. They seem to all be with very content owners these days and there’ll be very few leaving Japanese arcades these days. RKlok had a big batch of them about 5 years ago from an arcade that had closed down in the early 2000’s and was due to be pulled down but they’ve all disappeared across the world. If you wanted a different Sega cab, like an Astro, New Astro or Blast City they’re far more common and cheaper, but also a little bigger since they have 29” monitors. They’re also much easier to get spare parts for.

M2 work wonders with whatever they get. If they can give Truxton 2 a Super Easy mode which can actually be finished by a normal human I'll be over the moon.

Yeah must admit I have no time for the couple in question but even when they're cunts it's still harassment.

The only genres I'm very unlikely to play these days are: MOBA/MMORPG - I don't have the time to commit to these and just dropping in and getting annihilated is no fun at all. Sports Sims - I still love footie games that aren't straight up sims but I've no time for the FIFA's and Pro Evo's of this world anymore (or EA FC and eFootball whatever shite they're called). Exceptions are made here for combat sports, although I prefer the old UFC games to the new ones with a million mechanics to learn. 3D Platformers that aren't Mario - I just don't like them, I find them tedious and always have done. I'm not even that keen on the Mario ones, but I can get a little enjoyment from them. Horror games - I don't want to need a spare pair of pants on hand when I'm trying to relax playing games. Genres that haven't had much attention aside from the above in the past few years: JRPG's - I love a game where I can constantly improve my stats etc. but I've not played much in the way of JRPG's recently due to time constraints and possibly the fear of starting one only to realise I think it's crap after I've sunk 50 hours into it. Racing Sims - I spend a little time on the Forza games now and again but I never got in to the GT series or other sims really. FPS - I got tired of them probably 6-8 years ago and have only dipped in a little since. They can be fun but there's other genres I prefer to spend my time with.

That's a lot of shmup for your money in any of those releases.

Drainus is available physically on Strictly Limited Games. There's a 15% discount as well for the new few hours.

Is Castlevania Symphony of the Night - PS1, rare??
phillv85 replied to Chewylegs's topic in Retro & Arcade Gaming
They had a black label copy of SoTN in my local CEX today at £400. I didn’t look close but could see the cover was bent and the manual in poor condition from behind the glass. -
I used to subscribe, dipped in for a month when Turtles Shredders Revenge went on there but ultimately cancelled again. I always paid full price for it. I found there wasn’t all that much on there for me, and the lack of new releases meant it wasn’t worth it to me. I can certainly see the value for others, but I’m also a collector so end up buying stuff anyway.

Lady Decade sits on 116 patrons at £619 per month. I think I put the numbers a couple of months back in this thread, sure she was around £100 more per month. Edit: October 11th she was on 132 Patrons for £771 per month.

Not much, THGM and LD have deleted several thousand tweets each and lost a few patreon supporters.

Great trailer, really looking forward to this.

Can you have two or more games on the go at the same time?

I’ve got 3 ‘big’ games going at the moment. I often play retro as well just when I fancy a quick blast on something rather than having to focus on a story. -
Elevator Action Returns S-Tribute - PS4/Xbox/Switch/Steam - December 1st

The bit where the flying bastards come in? Just camp in the bottom right corner and grenade them to death, works best with Jad as his grenades are proximity. -

This is good news. This is one of the PCB's I was really sad to see go when I sold a load of arcade stuff. My second ever arcade 1CC. Hopefully we're not going to victims of double digit frames of lag on this one, you do need to be surprisingly precise in parts on EAR. -
I always thought IIX was probably the best arrange mode on any of the CAVE 360 releases and there's some incredible arrange modes. I still think the base arcade game is a bit poo though 😅 There's so many good shooters on the 360, even discounting the CAVE games. Wish I'd bought Sakura Flamingo Archives back in the day though, I think it's the only one that's eluded me and it's so bloody pricey now

phillv85 replied to Chewylegs's topic in Retro & Arcade Gaming
Yeah it's not particularly rare, but it's definitely super sought after and worth a good chunk of money. -
Changing to Japanese changes the region of the games but not the games list. Useful for Bare Knuckle 3 of course because the western version is ludicrously difficult in comparison.
-
Not too bad considering the shite you get in some special editions.
-
What do you get in the Cotton collectors edition? I just went for the regular release.
