  1. That's more or less the best survival technique, although it is worth thinking about your lock-on attack a little as you want to restock bombs/breaks ASAP, as they're you're get out of jail free card whenever there's a bullet curtain or tight spot. Hitting more enemies with a single lock produces more medals, replenishing the gauge faster. Lock-on use becomes a lot more technical for scoring runs, but no need to worry about it yet. Good luck, dude!
  2. I know loads of other folk like yourself who seem to love Eschatos, but for whatever reason it just doesn't seem to get on with me. Might be the scoring systems, perhaps. Glad you're enjoying it tho, dude. When the time comes for CC you're in for a treat - it's a proper modern classic.
  3. You are a gentleman, sir. Thanks. I shall study!
  4. That would be awesome mate - thank you!
  5. I just came here to say that I saw that - congrats dude. Would love to see your replay if you have the means. I'm consistently falling way short of my top score and am not really sure what I'm doing wrong. Even watching my replay isn't really helping!
  6. Bastard! Sorry, I mean congrats, obv
  7. Akai Katana is heading to Steam! My favourite Cave shmup. I'm proper nerding out here!
  8. For some reason my RG Novice 1CC is top of the global leaderboard by a country mile. Although it also seems fair to say that the boards are pretty barren right now. Hopefully that'll change with the digital release.
  9. No, old school horizontal shmup but with persistent power ups - which, incidentally, is often not my bag, but the design absolutely nails it.
  10. Am feeling very spoiled as a shmup fan right now. Absolutely LOVING Rolling Gunner on PS4/5, Andro Dunos 2 is cracking, still tucking into CC World Explosion, Space Moth Lunar Edition and Star hunter DX on PC, plus there's loads of stuff sitting there waiting for a bit more of my attention (Habroxia 2, which I ADORE, Assault Shell, Progear/Gigawing, the three Cottons now on Steam, Jet Buster, Operation Steel, Sophstar, Sol Cresta... so much goodness). Not bad for a 'dead' genre
  11. Yep, I've had a dabble with Andros Dunos 2. Seems solid.
  12. Rolling Gunner for PS4 in da house. Works fine on PS5, too. Has been a long time coming...
  13. This all sounds quite fascinating to play about with, tbh. But I'm so time poor I just don't know when I'd fit it in. Perhaps when I next take some holiday time I'll get this and have a tinker.
  14. As is this: https://store.steampowered.com/app/1862530/Space_Dragons/ I had a tinker and it seems quite promising.
  15. In today's Frankly Unbelievable News, Strictly Limited claim to have shipped my copy of Rolling Gunner on PS4. We shall see!
  16. Yeah, I'm also finding myself quite fond of it. Although unlike you I'm unlikely to be beating it unless easy or very easy are especially generous, so will likely not feel the multi-loop pain! But I like that it has some original ideas and doesn't just feel like 'another' indie shmup (not to degrade indie shmups, many of which are terrific). Roll back the clock 20+ years and I can see this on the cover of CVG or Mean Machines and the whole playground is arguing about whether the SNES or Mega Drive version is best. Guess maybe because it's from Platinum it just has a different feel, while Hamster ensures that the fundamentals are there.
  17. Not had that much time to dabble but Sophstar (out today) seems really interesting. Loving the ship variety. https://store.steampowered.com/app/1410440/Sophstar/
  18. I did, yeah, and seem to remember having a fairly good time.
  19. I've not yet tried them myself, but apparently they're improved over the Switch versions and comparable to available emulators - so either completely fine or utterly broken depending on your perspective.
  20. Those two new Cotton games are now out on Steam, plus Guardian Force. https://store.steampowered.com/app/1708800/COTTOn_2__Saturn_Tribute/ https://store.steampowered.com/app/1708810/COTTOn_Boomerang__Saturn_Tribute/ https://store.steampowered.com/app/1708820/Guardian_Force__Saturn_Tribute/
  21. Spent last night modding my Mayflash F500 with Seimitsu parts (LS-40 stick, PS-14-G buttons, bat top). It plays BEAUTIFULLY. Opted for Seimitsu over Sanwa as the tighter throw works well for shmups imo. Am gonna install a Miles Morales background, hence the colours.
  22. Yeah, I couldn't tell what the other two mapped buttons in Grand Cross were doing! And I'm glad it's not just me with Shinorubi - I was really pumped for that game but a few things about it don't quite feel right. Fingers crossed it really is a proper Early Access release and they manage to iron out the niggles.
  23. I know nowt of any of this, but I'd often wondered if there was a reason why the shmups subreddit was so pants.
  24. Dude - you're a shmup info machine and I love it. My wallet less so...
  25. Blazend's now out on Steam. Unfortunately, as well as a menu bug stopping me from mapping the controls, it also hard crashed my PC with what I think was a memory leak. I reluctantly chose to refund https://store.steampowered.com/app/1757440/Blazend/
