  1. Opus Magnum is probably the easiest of these games (although I've not got that far) mostly because it doesn't seem to have as many restrictions in place. SpaceChem, TIS-100 and Shenzhen are particularly hard because of space and synchronisation limits.
  2. Same for me, even though I haven't completed one since SpaceChem (probably my favourite game ever). One of the interesting things about this game is that you have very few restrictions on space or components so there is much more room for optimisation than in some of the previous games. For some reason I keep optimising for space or cost, not cycles like I usually do. That's when I'm not distracted by the mini-game!
  3. Bretonnia was free. The Old World Edition seem to just be the base game except now you get the benefit of all the free content that has been made available.
  4. I haven't done it yet but seems to be. Remember you don't need to wipe out the AI factions to stop them, and you only have to really start worrying about them once they're onto the fourth ritual really (or fifth if you want to cut it really fine!). Later on you'll probably have enough resources to send out an expeditionary force to slow the factions down or be able to pay for an intervention army. Skaven don't seem to be able to deal with 10k intervention armies at all from what I've seen, on the other hand Mazdamundi seems to crush them instantly so he'll need manual intervention. Even if you fail to stop them, I believe you get teleported to a final defensive battle anyway and this is apparently very easy.
  5. Ulthuan is really bad for this. I had 6 Skaven doom stacks spawn on the eastern coast of Ulthuan. All the ritual cities were in the inner circle or on the western coast. Even if I had the armies to deal with that amount of high tier Skaven armies it would still take me at least 3 turns to get them near by which time they would most likely have razed or taken over at least one province (although it's the AI so there is always a chance they're just sit around raiding). My current tactic is to entirely ignore the vortex and just go for a domination victory because the rituals are just far too annoying. Despite a whole bunch of mechanics annoying me, I am enjoying the game still, just looking forward more to the new grand campaign.
  6. I don't particularly mind the lack of ranged on Lizardmen but they also lack speed early on (especially as Kroq'gar, as Mazdamundi you have Net spell and solar engine). I just did the first quest battle as Kroq'gar against Dark Elves. I spent most of the battle chasing Shades. Only Kroq'gar on a mount and my Skink priest on Terradon could catch them and only Kroq'gar could do it safely. Occasionally the Stegadon might sprint and catch up but most of the time it just trundled along. I'd hate to face a Norscan army with them.
  7. I've been surprised how good the Skaven are. You always have number superiority so enveloping the enemy is easy and then summons allow you to hit the enemy in the back or neutralise archers and artillery. At least early games it's often possible to overwhelm the enemy so thoroughly early on that they break before you. Even if your guys do break, it doesn't matter because they tend to rally quickly. Fighting Skaven on the other hand is frustrating as you it seems to take forever to get them to break properly and even when you beat them they tend to have a large number of survivors. I've only fought against their higher tier units but their artillery seems particularly scary and I've seen Skrolk absolutely destroy units single handedly with his various plague breath/wind/vortex spells. Then again all factions feel powerful in their own ways. As High Elf I found a stack of Lothern Sea Guard (so many tech/trait/skill upgrades available for them) and a few bolt throwers was capable of taking on most armies.
  8. Honestly I'm not a massive fan of the new campaign. I thought that it being more focused would be good but in practice I don't think it's much fun. There are now harsh penalties on higher difficulties for having additional armies (on top of all the other penalties that already existed) but the nature of the rituals means you often really need a bunch of armies to have any hope of fight off the doom stacks and intervention armies that suddenly spawn in your territory. Intervention armies are semi-broken too. I honestly thought I'd like this more than the first game which had it's own problems but so far I'm not finding it that much fun. It feels like some of the issues of the original that were fixed have returned. Auto-resolve is completely unpredictable (and I've heard broken for Skaven), AI army composition remains awful. Rogue armies sounded like fun but they always seem to spawn in the worst possible places and sometimes you get unlucky and get one early that is composed of high tier troops that you can't really handle. The lords also seem really unbalanced - Tyrion and Malekith seem to have some borderline broken campaign skills (global recruitment and upkeep bonuses mostly). Still really looking forward to the Mortal Empires campaign though.
  9. No, third book is not out, and not likely to be out any time soon (even though he said they were all written when he released the first book). Completely agree on second book being awful. Rothfuss is too busy with his charity to complete the series I think.
  10. Are the performance issues worse towards the end of the game or just at certain resolutions? My PC is about 5 years old, some kind of i5, 8gb ram, 960GTX. I'm running 1920x1080 windowed, and it looks good and runs and loads fast with no slowdown.
  11. I've not got very far yet but an interesting thing I've found is that I'm finding it really hard to just blindly favour one side or the other. In many similar games I'd end up picking a faction and then sticking with them regardless of how stupid they were. This is making me actually think about choices and trying to choose the best option for my character and ignoring factions. Which is good. Really struggling to stick with a character though. I have started 4 different characters already and think I'm going to start a 5th. Definitely think mages are the most fun so far.
  12. Anyone watched All or Nothing: A Season with the Arizona Cardinals? It's currently on Amazon Prime and is pretty damn good (even if you're not a Cardinals fan). Similar to Hard Knocks but follows the team through the season and playoffs.
  13. I don't think I've had enemy armies come out of nowhere and attack in the same turn. I've definitely been caught by surprise by tunnelling or ships though. I have occasionally had a problem where I'm trying to catch an enemy and they're just as fast or a bit faster than me so I'm forever chasing and if I stop they replenish/raid/sack. That said surprisingly often you can trick them by going into ambush stance and catch them when they run right back over you. I've definitely found this one harder than previous TW games I've played, I barely played Attila though.
  14. It depends on the stance. Encampment, Ambush and I think Raiding allow you to move a certain percentage of your movement before switching to them (see extended tooltips for exact numbers). Ambush/raiding don't take effect until next turn so you can switch in and out without issue. Encampment is the same except if you decide to recruit in which case if you want to switch out you'll need to cancel recruitment. Tunnelling is a bit different and you basically have to do your whole movement in 1 go and you can't switch out until next turn once you've moved. March is the most annoying, as far as I can tell if you move at all while in this stance then you can't switch out, even if you haven't used any of the extended movement range. I wish there was an option to automatically drop out of March on next turn as I often accidentally forget to do so. Basically though you can't gain the benefits of more than 1 stance per turn. I completed a Dwarf campaign at the weekend. I got kind of lucky when Chaos turned up in force. They appeared just as I entirely destroyed the Vampire factions (except Mousillon but I hadn't even discovered them) so I had a bunch of armies in a good position to go after them. At the same time I was really worried that a dwarf/border prince faction was going to turn on me due to deteriorating relationships and how many undefended territories I had but once Chaos show up everyone magically wants full alliances and trade agreements with the biggest military faction and damn any other factors! My paranoia about being backstabbed by other factions though meant that armies ideally situated when Norscan stacks appeared on my coast. Then when I faced the Chaos Legendary Lords they didn't really group their armies up so I could mostly put 2 stacks of mine against 1 of theirs. 2 of them intercepted me in tunnels (even though I didn't move that close) which was great because they couldn't get their cavalry behind me and just had to run onto my artilley/missile troops and then when I beat them they all got wiped out so no need to chase down remnants. I think if I play another Dwarf campaign I'm going to abuse tunnelling way more.
  15. I'm really enjoying this. Not got very far because I keep restarting but I've tried Grimgor (twice), Thorgrim, Manfred and Karl Franz out. My only gripes so far are enemy heroes just repetitively assassinating everything in their path (thankfully there are already loads of mods to stop this) and how quests/grudges generation seems to be designed to be maximally annoying. For example as dwarfs, the orcs are my most pressing concern but every grudge I get is against VC or even worse Empire who I share no borders with and barely any contact with. When I did try to settle those grudges I just got even more there. Pretty much everything else I really like. Lords/heroes with their spells/special abilities really adds a different dynamic in battles. There's loads of other improvements since I last played a TW game properly and it all adds up to a really fun game - I just need to pick a race/lord and stick with it now!
  16. I tried the first Puller book by David Baldacci and it was truly awful. It's basically a clone with an awful plot (not that the recent Reacher books have been much better). It's just about the laziest book I've ever read. I quite liked the Carter Blake books by Mason Cross though, especially the first one.
  17. So I now have the option to write an item description. I said ages ago when I backed the game that I would throw it open here for ideas. The item I've been assigned is: Name: Ray Trap Type: Cypher Details: A halfsphere with prongs. When triggered, shoots rays of energy at all nearby targets. The item description can be up to 1200 characters. I also have the ability to randomly be assigned a different item but I can't then go back to this 1 if I get something even worse. Deadline for submission is 15th Feb so if you want to immortalise rllmuk or yourself in game then post your description here and if I think it's interesting I'll stick it in. If there's a bunch of submissions then I guess we can have a poll or something to pick the best 1.
  18. I installed it and briefly ran through part of the intro/character creation. I'm torn though on whether I want to spoil anything for myself when it's not complete. Still not heard anything about naming/designing an item yet though which seems a little strange given they seem to be pretty far into development.
  19. All Abercrombie books are good. The House of Shattered Wings by Aliette de Bodard is also pretty good from that Daily Deals list.
  20. I loved the 1st game but I'm struggling to justify purchasing this. They're asking quite a bit for a game that looks like a graphical update with less teams and while it looks like they've got a better model for adding extra teams this time, the cost for each 1 looks far too steep.
  21. Seasonal vs non-seasonal is a matter of preference. I think in general most people play seasonal, you get access to new legendaries faster (legendaries introduced for a season, only become available in non-seasonal at the end of the season) and it's a fresh start. Story mode is generally not worth it unless perhaps you're collecting achievements or enjoy the lore/story. Bounties and rifts will likely provide faster levelling, more legendaries etc. Co-op will provide even more xp and legendaries but I'm not sure how significant it is and public co-op can be very hit and miss. If you want and you decide to play seasonal, I'm happy to give you a boost/help out in game.
  22. I've only played PC and there are differences to the PS4 version but I'll try to answer the questions. The key symbols on the bounty map indicate areas that have a keywarden. These keywardens drop Infernal Machines (drop rate depends on difficulty, it's not that high). You can use these to open portals which contain multiple bosses. If you kill these you get legendary crafting material that you can use to craft hellfire rings and amulets. It's all a little complicated so worth looking up a guide (eg ).Greens are set items. Many set bonuses give ridiculous bonuses so in general for most classes, the best builds involve collecting 1 or more sets. So the short answer is yes, you should be trying to get greens. Some sets however are a lot better than others. As a monk I believe the Ulianna's set is currently the best. As for what you can be doing, I believe end game is very different on consoles to PC so I don't know.
  23. I went the other way. Last season I played a Crusader using what sounds like the same build as you and this season I'm playing a Wizard. I've never really played Wizard/Demon Hunter because they looked way too squishy and I thought I'd probably give up on the Wizard quite quickly for that reason, however I'm really enjoying it. I don't actually feel too squishy either. I've managed to do a 53 rift and while there are certain mobs that charge/jump that are a pain, I rarely feel in much danger of dying. Of course it helps to be able to carpet every inch of floor with ridiculously OP slow time bubbles! Also if anyone wants a seasonal power level, just message me (csuzw#1537). Takes maybe 4 T6 rifts (and if you've already got a bunch of seasonal paragon levels it'll be even less because the difficulty can be set even higher).
