  1. I hate whoever thought up the idea of having lockboxes drop that require paying real money to get a key to open them (or is there another way to open Nightmare lockboxes?).
  2. Got to level 12. Am on Dragon server in the Rock Paper Shotgun guild. Tried a Foundry mission that was basically a tribute to the Spartacus TV series. Killed lots gladiators, saved lots of scantily clad women. Bit silly but nice change of pace from the real mission and worth doing for daily Astral Diamond reward. I'm level 12 and haven't spent a single skill/ability/feat point yet because I'm too worried I'll mess up and won't be able to respec without paying.
  3. Tried this out last night, expecting to uninstall it almost immediately but was pleasantly surprised. I really quite like the combat in this which is a pretty rare thing for me in MMOs although lag/rubber banding occasionally ruined it. Play with 2h weapon warrior, mage and cleric. Preferred the range classes but not sure which I'll stick with.

    Archer

I think that was the best episode yet. As usual Kreiger was in it for all of 5 seconds and still 1 of the best bits. The ending was very unusual by Archer-standards. Looking forward to seeing where this goes from here.

    Spacechem

Just spent about 4 days staring at the final level in the 63 Corvi DLC without making any progress. Finally make a breakthrough and then realise I can actually do it in 2 instead of 3 reactors (2 is minimum possible, 3 is max). Uploaded it to SolutionNet and noticed I was 2nd on the 2 reactor scoreboard which is the best result I've had for any level so far. Was quite proud until I noticed that only 2 other people had actually bothered uploading a 2 reactor solution
  6. I backed a tier that allows me to write a description and history for an item (don't think I get to choose what item). Unless I have a particularly good idea for it I'll probably throw it out here as I'm sure a collaborative rllmuk item could be interesting.

    Spacechem

After quite a long break I've just started working on the penultimate 63 Corvi level. It looks fairly simple in terms of reactor placement and input/outputs but it has Carbomega chains as 1 of the inputs. They're annoying enough in normal reactors due to their uneven length, shapes but they're going to be even worse in a quantum reactor. edit: Solved it! Even completed in a respectable number of cycles although not an infinitely running solution which annoys me a bit. 1 more level to go!

My solution is even worse Found this mad solution that I think wins though(1 reactor, 1 waldo!): Feeling an urge to go back and finish 63 Corvi and ResearchNet puzzles now.

    Spacechem

I usually spent way longer than I needed to on the boss puzzles trying to avoid using the manual controls as it doesn't feel right. I'd have liked an option to skip/ignore boss levels as in general I thought they were least fun levels.

The beauty of this game is that there is rarely a "right" way to do it. You spend time staring at a puzzle in incomprehension, finally you think of a solution or 2 and 1 of them works and then you look at other solutions and realise there are loads of them and they're almost all better than yours My solution for that level was (which isn't great as it produces all the H2 and O2 before it manages to make 1 Pu):
  11. I'm not sure if anyone here likes SpaceChem but if you do, then there is a game on Desura called Great Permutator which is quite similar, especially in terms of the fiendish difficulty. There's a demo available that gives a good indication of what it's like. Hadn't used Desura before but really like it. Lots of odd little games to try.
  12. Gnomoria: Dwarf Fortress except it's possible to understand what's going on and the UI is somewhat usable. Still not really sure what I'm doing! Great Permutator: If you like SpaceChem then you'll probably like this. Looks simpler but so far proving just as hard. Demo and full game available on Desura (http://www.desura.com/games/great-permutator).
  13. I read Patrick Rothfuss' blog entry on the subject before reading the kickstarter page and he made it sound like he was already on board so I was surprised to find he was a stretch goal, especially 1 that is quite a long way off still. I think the main reason they do it though is to try to maintain a constant level of interest throughout the funding period. There's no real regulation on the Kickstarter thing at the moment so they can do what they want with the money (although I think some project founders that just ran off with the money have been sued). The most successful projects are either the ones that are such good ideas that people are willing to risk a bit of money on it, or the people running the project have such a high profile/good reputation that they have as much to lose as the people backing it, if they fucks up.
  14. New stretch goals for Torment have been announced. If the total reaches $3.25m (currently $2.8m) then Patrick Rothfuss will be getting involved with the writing amongst other things. The urge to contribute silly money to this is rising.
  15. Initially I held out on purchasing this because of ubisoft/uplay shit but then it was on sale a while back and I forgot about that and bought it. Then I couldn't play it for a few days because uplay fucked up and I haven't played it since. Whenever I see it mentioned or screenshots from it I want to play it again but at the same time uplay makes me rage. Has it got any better?
  16. Personally I think Heroes is Abercrombies best work and that Red Country might be his worst. Then again I struggled a bit with his original trilogy which I found just a bit too bleak (and I like Robin Hobb's Farseer trilogy so generally I don't mind bleak). I loved David Gemell's books when I was younger and a while back decided to read them all again only to discover that it seems almost all of his books have this annoying prophecy plot device that I didn't remember. Basically there will be a prophecy, usually far too detailed, that will explain exactly what is going to happen and then the characters will all do their best to follow it. It's stupid because you already have a decent idea of what's going to happen, it's a Gemell book so people are going to be heroic and most likely win in the end but instead of just getting on with that you get told exactly what is going to happen and then everyone contrives to make it happen. I can't remember reading the Shannow books (I think the only ones I haven't read) at all so I was wondering if they also have this annoying prophecy thing? (I might have asked this question, or at least voiced this Gemell complaint before, if so sorry!). I've just finished reading Theft of Swords: The Riyria Revelations by Michael J Sullivan. I bought it because I like the author's moustache. It doesn't live up to the moustache but it's a decent effort and significantly better than Brent Weeks efforts which I thought this might resemble. Now I'm reading Way of Kings by Brandon Sanderson. I'd only read some of his Mistborn books before but didn't think they were great. He gets so much praise and I'd heard Way of Kings was quite different so I thought I'd give him another go. So far I'm glad I did, it seems well written, isn't annoying me and I do want to find out happens next. It hasn't even annoyed me with an over-explained magic system much (yet. I almost completely disagree with his views on magic in fantasy).
  17. I've not been sure why I backed Wasteland 2 as I never played the original and while I generally like the Fallout games I never found them amazing. I'm glad I did now after seeing the footage though, it looks excellent.

    Path of Exile

I think I'm going to take a break from the game for a little while. The last few days it's been constant server crash, disconnects and horribly laggy combat. I really wish I could mash Diablo 3, Torchlight 2 and Path of Exile into 1 game as there is a perfect game somewhere in that combination but as it is I find they all fall down in some big way.

    Path of Exile

You could do that easier with this offline skill planner - it's must easier to use than the online 1 and it totals everything up among other nice features: http://www.pathofexile.com/forum/view-thread/19723

    Path of Exile

Just reached Cruel difficulty. Even as a really tanky marauder I was getting destroyed at the end of Act 3. Some of it was down to the lag which is all over the place but I ended up resorting to portal rushing to kill a couple of bosses. There was a unique enemy near the end who could almost 1 shot me and nothing I could do to avoid it as I needed to be in melee to hit him. I like how all resistances are -20% in Cruel which means my Chaos resistance is now -20%. I've seen 1 item with CR on it and there aren't any passive nodes for it anywhere near Marauder starting point so that's going to be fun.

    Path of Exile

Is there any point in having multiple gems of the same type, other than for giving to other characters?

    Path of Exile

I'm afraid that doesn't tally with what I've seen. I actually don't think the responsiveness has got much worse since closed beta. Early on in closed beta I didn't notice it that much but when I came back to it more recently (end of last year I think), it was pretty much how it is now in open beta. Diablo 3 was always significantly better for me, to the point I'd be hard pressed to notice any lag most of the time (solo anyway). That said D3 disconnected me occasionally which hasn't happened yet with PoE.

    Path of Exile

I have the same issue, it's not a massive problem but it definitely feels worse than other games in the genre. I've also been finding almost every action is a bit laggy (I assume there is server trips for everything) and while it's not quite enough to put me off, it's only just the right side of that point at the moment. Can't decide what class to play. I'd really like to play something other than Marauder but I usually get fed up of how squishy anything else is.
  24. Can't seem to stop playing Puzzle and Dragons, thankfully it has this stamina thing so I only end up playing it in very small bursts. Back playing Path of Exile now that I know my characters aren't going to get wiped again. Can't decide which character to play though. Really want to complete KOTOR2 but got distracted by Puzzle and Dragons a while back and haven't managed to get back into my game. Also got Borderlands 2 Hammerlock expansion to dig into at some point.
  25. Read them all and love them despite them all being pretty much the same. Regarding continuity, to complicate matters, the orders the books were released in is not the same order that events in different books happen in. Some of the more recent books have revisited his army days for example.
