Where they all go flat is Covid, I would infer from the dates. The overall trend is that the other clubs are catching up while United has stagnated.

Yeah, I agree. A minority stake would be a very very bad investment. I heard someone use the analogy of not giving Dracula more money to continue running your blood bank and thought that was pretty apt!

Caveat all of this: I'm not a finance expert at all, this is just what i've read. It's about growth, United's relative growth has been flat or in decline since 2015. All the other clubs, specifically City and Liverpool are catching or have surpassed United's commercial growth. All these clubs had Covid to deal with too. Without getting into the weeds here, the evidence suggests that United's commerical growth peaked a while ago. If your value has peaked and shows signs of decline then you strip the asset and sell it. Woodwood said 6-7 years ago that success on the field (the bit the Glazers don't care about) has no impact on the commercial side (the bit they do care about). I'm saying, there's a lot of evidence to suggest this isn't true, and that there is a point where the best course for them to make the most money is to sell. (if there is a buyer)

The Swiss Ramble thread a page or two back tackles this a bit: Commercial growth has been static for years and now in decline.

Also, if a takeover is on the cards, I wouldn't expect the Glazers to sanction much in the way of transfers before the end of the window. At best they might put the money they'd allocated for De Jong into 2-3 budget players, basically to ensure they don't get relegated in case a takeover falls through. I think that's why we're now seeing a lot of the Arnautovic, Rabiot type deals being explored by Murtaugh, perhaps some loans. I feel sorry for Ten Hag, he's been lied to all summer and now his reputation is at risk. I'd understand if he wanted to quit at this point. He's clearly a good coach, but he's got a team of players who don't want to be there and can't play his system.

That's it, yeah! My suspicion is that this all seems to be kicking off now as they've been working with financial intermediaries to let it be known that they are for sale. Like I said before, there's a point where the club is so wrecked and toxic from a marketing point of view that they're just not seeing companies want to invest in, sponsor or be associated with such an incredibly unappealing club. I think Man United has been at that point for a while now. Their whole model is based on leveraging United's brand and then syphoning out the money. Given the ESL won't be happening, they won't have that massive windfall to look forward to. If a buyer willing to spend £6b is there, from their point of view - I'd be surprised if they didn't take it. Who that is remains to be seen, it's been reported as a few different potential buyers. Unfortunately we don't get a say in which evil overlord we get. I think it's important that fan groups and protests continue to ramp up the pressure, if there's an out available to them, it'll be more appealing if the idea of staying looks untenable.

Jim Ratcliffe’s group seems to have come out as one of the groups looking to purchase Manchester United..

Although perhaps Musk's tweet might not be randomly appropriate of nothing, as if there are consortiums around looking for investors, he's definitely somebody who would have been approached. Been through this sort of thing before, but the Glazer's plan logically sees them selling at some point. All depends on there actually being a real buyer to test that of course. I think the Super League windfall was their ultimate endgame payout, and with that gone for now and United drying up for lack of sweet blood to suck, maybe things have changed for them.

Few rumblings today from all over the place (not related to Musk) that the Glazers might be willing to sell part of United.

Andy Mitten is historically a pretty decent source on Pulisic. Bit of a weird move for Chelsea to loan to United, also not sure why Pulisic thinks United are a good option for him. United's current recruitment is probably as ill-planned and seemingly panicked as i've ever seen it. Which is really saying something.

Swiss Ramble is excellent yeah, I was just going to come and link this myself. It's still mind blowing to me that there are United fans who think the Glazers are fine.

I used to think until quite recently that there was a way for the footballing side of the club to be run well despite the owners. But the Glazers have such a controlling grip on all of it, I now think it’s impossible. This summer was really important to get right, I was skeptical that the club were changing and modernising, but figured now, after all this time maybe they’d seen the light. It’s clear to me Murtaugh seems like the new front to replace Woodward as lightning rod to the fans and distract from the owners who never show their faces. Nothing has changed. Ten Hag is clearly an excellent coach, but the squad isn’t right for the type of football he wants to play. They brought him in because he’d be a popular choice with the fans and then not given him the rebuilding he needs to do the job. What’s worse is it seems clear they’ve let him handle the recruitment, despite him being used clubs which are competently run and handle the recruitment in a modern way. They’ve hung him out to dry here for a number of reasons. I feel for him, I think they’ve lied to him and sold him a project that can’t succeed. Not only do the owners not care about footballing success, the fans, the stadium, the community or the legacy of the club - they’re seemingly actively working against it all to bleed out every last drop of money they can. None of this is new, we’ve been saying it for years right? What has crystallised in my mind this summer is that there can be no hope of United being a well run football club while the owners are here. “It’s the hope that kills you” right? That’s ok! There is no hope!

He was tactically out-thought in the first half I thought. By the time it was corrected in the second half, they were 2-0 down and being booed by home fans. This team is so incredibly mentally fragile, any set back and they're on the floor. Being 2-0 down at half time wouldn't have been a reason to bet against United sides in the past, or Liverpool and City these days. You can tell he's been trying to work on their confidence, but it was telling how quickly it broke. As a fan I felt the same way, the optimism for the season went in record time, and these guys are living it.

Chelsea is a much more attractive option in a lot of ways, I guess we'll see how much he values working under Ten Hag. United is a huge career gamble for a player of that level approaching their prime. The fact there's even a small chance that he may have signed for United is basically because of the weird unique circumstances.

Kessie is an interesting one, he was at one point fairly vocal about wanting to play for United. (admittedly, the shit show has been through some more acts since then!) https://www.skysports.com/amp/football/news/11863/11268715/ac-milans-franck-kessie-dreams-of-joining-man-united

Might have to Dutch his name up a bit to get Ten Hag interested.
  19. I've had mine for a couple of days now. When I put it down last night it was at full charge, but not plugged into power, just left on my desk. Today I can't get it to turn on at all, it's totally unresponsive. I've had it plugged in for about an hour and it's still unresponsive. Is there a trick i'm missing or should I speak to Panic?

He was the Dutch Footballer of Year last season. Seems a good investment if they can get him for £35m as touted, given his age and profile. He predominantly plays on the left, or has done at PSV anyway.

Yeah! I was a little taken aback (but not really) people as a whole seemed to be totally cool with Ronaldo coming back for that reason alone.

Various places reporting United have pulled out of the Arnautović deal due to the amount of fans writing in to complain about the man.... It should not have come to that! Best bit of business United have done in about 10 years in not hiring this piece of human garbage.
