  1. It took Amazon UK 10 minutes to sell out of Wii pre-orders. http://uk.gamespot.com/news/6162141.html?sid=6162141 How long was the PS3 up? EDIT: Ah didn't realise they had a Euro launch allocation of a million consoles.
  2. http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/technology/4484376.stm "Microsoft has suggested that some 300,000 Xbox 360s are likely to be available for Friday's European launch."

    Edge 173

And his idea for a zombie MMORPG. "Yeah you see you play this bloke and then he gets bitten and at that point you relinquish all control of the character but can pay cash money to see him shambling around."

  5. Walked round yesterday and places that sold consoles were on a PS3 pre-order poster blitz and not one of them mentioned the price.
  6. http://forums.macrumors.com/showthread.php?t=278472 EGM: It seemed like about 50 percent of people in line were there to make a quick buck on eBay. And now we're seeing a lot more units on store shelves. JT: Really? EGM: Yeah. JT: If you can find a PS3 anywhere in North America that's been on shelves for more than five minutes, I'll give you 1,200 bucks for it. I can get any retail buyer on the phone with you and get them to verify that there's not a single retail location in America where there's a Playstation 3 on the shelf for sale. They've all been sold in a matter of minutes. EGM: But we called 18 random retailers, including Best Buy and EB Games, and half of them had PS3s in stock... some had as many as 20 in the store. So you can buy them now if you wanted. JT: We've shipped more than 1 million PS3 units to North American customers in the first 43 days since launch. I am not sitting in the store to know when they got put on shelves or if a salesperson is giving you accurate information, but if only nine of the 18 stores you contacted had supplies, that seems to be a clear indication that sales continue to be outstanding.
  7. Stuck a sail on it and used it as a raft?
  8. I hope they bring up the fiasco with the fall update.
  9. What amazed me was how little attention the update fiasco got. Microsoft release an update that kills a £200+ piece of hardware stone dead and hardly a peep. Some cack-handed plebs throw their wiimote at their telly and it's on the 6 O'Clock news.
  10. My launch 360 managed to last for a valiant nine months before constantly freezing up on games with the trademark checkerboard pattern on the screen. Second 360 lasted a month before the red lights kicked in. I was unlucky enough to get my replacement third 360 during the 48 hours that connecting to Live and updating would 'brick' any machine that had not had the previous firmware update. Fourth 360 is ticking along at the mo but I get occasional freezes on games out of nowhere.
  11. Also them lines including them gushing about it looking and feeling so damn futuristic that your TV will look obsolete next to it seemed to cross the line from journalistic article to shill territory. By comparison the Wii gets pretty short shrift in the article.
  12. Yay my replacement 360 froze last night when using the guide whilst still on dashboard. This is my fourth by the way (launch model lasted nine months then graphics card died, second got red lights for unknown reasons after a month, third I was unlucky enough to pick up during the 48 hours that applying the dash update would brick any new 360). I treat the bloody thing with kid gloves and it gets more ventilation than my PC so I can't see it's me doing anything and this happened about five minutes after switching it on for the first time that day so I really don;t think its an overheating issue. Is it just that the guide is a bit flakey? As I think they'll think I'm some kind of weirdo console exchange fetishist if I go into Game for a fifth replacement.
  13. Are Insomniac a Britsh Dev, I forget? If they are then an inflated Edge score for Resistance wouldn't be that surprising based on past form.
  14. I picked up my new box this evening and the update process seemed to go alright. Why does migrating your account over take so bloody long though, it's only 3mb or something yet it took ages on a 2mb connection.

  16. I read someone say that PES made them install some update before they could play, so maybe. Bet we won't hear Major Nelson mention a peep about this, we'll get "Wooooh hey guys you can now pay cash money to download some virtual cards with Kameo characters on!" but never a warning that if you buy a new Xbox 360 from yesterday onwards it will get terminal console cancer the first time you connect it the system's selling point.
  17. Well they'll have to otherwise the ensuing shitstorm would eclipse giant crabs and broken hinges. The only reason we haven't heard that much about it yet is because it's only effecting those who bought one yesterday, and of those only those who connected it to Live and then only those who bothered to report it online instead of just assuming they got a plain duff one, the majority of people posting on forums would have applied it to a unit that already had the previous update. It does boggle the mind that something like this could happen in the first place Anyone fancy submitting it as news to Eurogamer or someone?
  18. If you already have the previous dash update then you should be safe enough. If it's still factory settings then I wouldn't let it anywhere near the update though.
  19. Was that Xbox a factory settings one as well?
  20. Presumably if you've had it for a month then you'd already have had the previous update?
  21. More confirmation that the update will destroy a brand new Xbox 360. I'd imagine it's something to do with it going wonky because you haven't got the previous dash update. http://forum.teamxbox.com/showthread.php?t...169&page=12 (look at Page 12 onwards) Seriously if you're buying a new one today (or getting a repaired unit back) don't plug it into Xbox Live until there's some indication they've fixed this.
  22. Actually check this out. http://forums.xbox.com/7756188/ShowPost.aspx It appears that the update is killing new/repaired Xbox 360s for some reason. Microsoft will need to fix this asap as they're in deep shit if every new 360 they sell gets killed as soon as it's hooked up to Live.
  23. That's exactly what happened with my brand new replacement five minutes out of the box. There are reports that the update is destroying machines with a certain DVD drive, in which case I probably run an equal chance of this happening again tomorrow if Game will give me a fourth exhange.
  24. It's happening to people who've never modded their Xbox as well. I brought home a new replacement for a broken one today and as soon as it updated = broken.
  25. Just got my brand new replacement Xbox 360 back from Game (for those keeping score this is a replacement for another replacement that was broken) and switched it on to be greeted by the red lights of death straight away. Bloke in Game when I took back in the second broken one said that the amount of 360 returns they get is phenomenal.
