A more anarchistic method of moderation needs to be put in place. You know, for a laugh.
  2. I agree with this man. NFS:U is also a far more played game by me. Just like the reiews of the games in all the various magazines, they are still just opinions.

Phreak and a few others were non-name quoted on their views on the PS2. Basically critisisng its shit launch line-up and sunsequent months afterwards if I remember correctly. I don't think permission was asked for the content either.....

Wasn't it PSW who did that feature where they took quotes off the Edge forum about people slating the PS2.......?
  5. One page review for the next GT? I think not. GT4 is obviously a much more important game than PGR2, though. A huge part of Sony's domination of the games scene was built on the back of the Gran Turismo franchise. Seeing where they take this next will be interesting (even if they decide not to develop it any further), and as such will demand a more in-depth discussion. I don't even like Gran Turismo, but I'd be more interested in a GT4 review than a PGR2 one, simply because all a PGR2 review can say is "This is a driving game, much like all the others, and it is very good indeed." PGR2 is ace, but it's nothing special. I don't agree - the media can make or break a new game franchise. Gran Tourismo was 'made' back when the first game came out, they don't need to big-up it anymore. PGR on the other hand is a franchise that has yet to make it. By giving it a single page review, Edge help to undermine the potential success of it (never even mind the fact that it's one of the best games of last year). Not everyone makes purchasing decisions based on factual analysis and/or informed decision - brand recognition is EVERYTHING in pretty much all areas of retail, and the media have the power to sway public opinion one way or another, because people like to subscribe to perceived 'definitive opinions'. Even if a game is crap, if official magazines say it's good, people will buy it. You underestimate the power of the media. GT is not a "more important" game than PGR - more popular yes, but if the media portrayed PGR to be as desireable as GT, it too would become a much more popular title (if the Xbox had the same installed userbase as the PS2, naturally). GTs importance all comes down to media portrayal - if it wasn't the hyped up uber-franchise the media have made it, it wouldn't be nearly as popular. Since when has it been the responcibility of Edge to "make" a franchise sell? You guys should stop and listen to yourselves....
  6. They looked at a lot of Japanese text and went "I know what that says - Nintendo are in the shit!". It was probably the editors shopping list.
  7. Look. Its from freaking spong. Just point and laugh at it, not post their shit here.
  8. This is a no win situation. You can't review the games live aspects before release. Its ridicules to think otherwise. So if Edge had of waited - the review could no longer have been a "purchase guide" as some of you are suggesting. Further to this - if the review WAS delayed - a thread on here would no doubt have arisen banging on about how Edge are "teh suck!!!1111" for not getting a review out before release. You may not agree with the score - but if its a choice between an on time review of the single player - or a totally pointless late one with a higher score as live function is up and running, I know which I would take. Two separate reviews would be possible - but what’s the point when there are so many new games coming out - why waste the space?

The Xbox version has really bad slowdown on the first level apparently. No idea if this is the same as on the PS2 and GC as the only people who seem to have played it - downloaded it......
  10. You can go and fornicate yourself with a rusty bar.
  11. That would be funny. But it isn't.
  12. Thats the point, the whole legality of it is questionable. Copying anything is a big grey area.
  13. The actual legality of this is questionable.
  14. You mean memory stick. Yeah but I think thats how Mp3 are going to played* dont know about video files though. *like you said Thats the one!
  15. Its supposedly smart stick compatable. That means no card inside - but a smart stick plugs into a port on the unit. This would be what allows the PSP to hold MP3's and other such files? Who knows. Its going to be pretty cool regardless of cost. I just doubt that its all going to work as well as some of you are hoping.
  16. No it wasn't Yes it was. Why else was all of Sony Music's releases out on Minidisc at this time? Its main intention was the "new" music format. What came out of it was something totally different which Sony have embraced extremely effectively. But what do you think Sony would rather have; a peice of the Music copy business - or the stranglehold on the entire music intustry? Ther PSP has the features it does for the UMD. If Sony have it their way - it will be the next CD.
  17. What does it matter how many other accessories the Minidisc has sold aside from blank discs? What was the original intention then? I'd seriously like to know. And yes, you can pick up albums, I remember seeing some in Dixons a while back... But the Minidisc (that's a c) supplies me with recordable music on the go (e.g. find a headphone socket, plug it in and record), and all the many downloads I've acquired. The PSP wouldn't be a failure if it sold bugger all games, not if the console itself sold many units. As there would still be a profit, as highlighted in the news article. So you are seriously suggesting that it would be fine if the PSP was the pirates dream? No offical software/movies/sounds at all? You are on another planet. The Minidisc was supposed to be the next CD, but with all the benefits of tape. You can get Minidisk albums pretty much no-where. On that front, its been a huge flop. In terms of a viable alternative to a tapor CD compilation - its been great. Though Sony will not want the PSP to go the same way. This is a bid to make huge great big piles of cash. The Minidisc is just for pirating methods now? A lot of people copy from CD to Minidisc for a portable means to listen to their music (with being able to fit on around 10 albums in some cases). The Minidisc, as explained above, was meant to be the next step up from tape, but with the recording facility. For example now, you can't get tapes anywhere. So I don't think you've really got the idea of it yet. That wasn't its original design idea. It was supposed to be the new CD.

  19. The Playstation wasn't trying to eat three pies at once. Sony have failed before, and I am fairly sure it will happen again. No comapny has a flawless track record!
  20. Minidisk has not delivered what it intended to. Whoever makes the unit gets the profit from it - naturally. Though after that sale, other than blank disks - how has it made anyone any money? If the PSP turned into this - it would be a failure.
  21. I'd hardly call Minidisc a failure in this country. As for the other two, they were never really pushed over here. I can buy albums for my Minidisk player where?
  22. Well yes, there is a chicken and egg element. But then you will get peopel willing to adopt the new standrad, other wise we would never have DVD or Xbox etc. The early adopters will pay the price, and take the risk of course - But this is no different to any other launch of new technology. But then, Minidisk, Lazerdisk, Betamax etc all failed. Swings and roundabouts!
