  1. Is there a possible Native Tongue Revolution on the way? Only time will tell, but N*E*R*D aka The Neptunes has assembled some of the founders of the late 80’s collective and some contemporary descendants on a remix of their rock joint, “She Wants To Move.”

The posse cut features Common, Mos Def, De La Soul, and Q-Tip all spitting over the N*E*R*D’s alt-rock instrumental. The refrain of the song even includes a sharp reference to the Native Tongue's Jungle Brothers' hit song "Girl, I'll House You."

The song debuted on HotMc.com, one of the leading Italian hip-hop websites. The official song premier was a collaborative effort between Virgin Music Italy and the site.

The song has begun to spread throughout the internet at a rapid rate, devoured by those anxious for a return of the Native Tongue.

“Its good to hear these dudes back on the mic. Even Mos Def and Common because they haven’t exactly been churning out music,” said producer Dynasty Williams. “I’m not sure what Tribe and De La are up to, but this is a perfect chance for them to get back in the mix.”

Ironically, De La Soul may experience resurgence if Beyonce’s father Mathew Knowles has anything to say. The Destiny’s Child brain, who runs the Sony-distributed Music World Music Records, is reportedly scouting the group.

In a statement to Billboard, Knowles recently explained why he seeks acts like De La Soul and The O’Jays, the legendary 70’s group that recently joined him.

"The beautiful thing [with these types of acts] is you don't have to spend a lot of marketing and branding dollars: People already know who these acts are. If you keep the costs low, you can, in fact, make a profit,” he said.

    interesting

  2. I think that Big L album must've been rereleased because I've seen it around a lot recently – and that's not been the case since he was shot.

Yeah, there's a fresh bootleg double-vinyl version kicking around thats why.

I think 'All Balls Don't Bounce' is dope btw, it doesn't hit straight away but its one of those albums you can listen to for years and still hear new things in it, a bit like Funcrusher Plus.

    Why did they cancel?

Doom couldn't get his passport in time (surprise surprise) but Dedbeat are organizing a European tour for the summer which all Dedbeat ticket holders can go to for free  .

He's been replaced by DM & Jemini (who were a bit meh last time I saw them) and Roots Manuva who's allways good.

Apparently Krs One's back on again now

  3. I think Doom and Krs One have both camcelled Dedbeat!

In other news, i've finally got a little preview copy of Rodney P's new album which is sounding damn fine.

There is an official re-release of Freestyle Fellowship member, Aceyalone's major label LP, All Balls Don't Bounce.

    aceyallballsdontbounce.JPG

Classic West Coast hip hop in the same vein as the Hieroglyphics crew but a bit more technical if ya get me. Well worth coppin' hold of.

And i've recently, finally been able to get hold of a copy of Big L's debut LP after sleeping on it originally, and its fucking amazing:

You need to own this album!

  5. Yeah SFDB is a dope label. i loved that Beefeaters Ep from a while back and the Fleapit album.

yeah, I think Secondson's from Sussex but SFBD had a studio in Wales so most of his stuff was recorded there. So it was Made In Wales :(

I think Ben who frequents these threads is a Welsh head.

  6. If you want to really judge Welsh Hip Hop, check out the insane genius of the Headcase Ladz, recently signed to Zebra Traffic, or Johnny B from Cardiff, or producer Secondson, formerly from Fleapit, or the ex-Fleapit MC, Junior Disprol, one of the best freestylers out there in the UK...

    Agreed 100%

    Welcome to the forum Daimond.

edit: You can't have Secondson though, he's from Sussex :(

  7. I don't think us Celts (with a 'K') have accents suitable for rapping. The Scottish rappers that I've heard, no matter how intelligent their wordplay, are just too tough to listen to. It just sounds wrong to have a Celtic accent rap. It comes off as a Chewing The Fat sketch.

I don't have a problem with the accents (I rate some of the welsh hip hop i've heard, like Johnny B for example) its just the shitness that bothers me and the fact that Jo Wiley is gonna have wet knickers for them when they become the next 'in' thing. grrr.

All the scottish hip hop i've heard comes over very angry but Eastborn and that lot are cool.

  8. right, i've just heard my first GLC track. i don't get it? it sounds like me and my mates pissing about in the studio after the pub, or is that the idea?

At least when Aspects or even Pitman make comedy hip hop its actually listenable!

  9. a quick recommendation:

    http://www.peanutsandcorn.com

a very consistant Canadian label and its owner and producer (Mcenroe) makes some of the most well-crafted beats i've ever heard.

I'm just listening to the new Pip Skid LP from them and its amazing.

I'm not sure if this label will appeal to the straight hip hop heads but anyone who enjoys good songwriting and quality beats will enjoy their stuff.

    Recommended releases:

    Gruf - Druidry

Gruf's a vegan druid who lives in a tree and raps about enviromental issues (but don't let that put you off, this is dope album) including a track where he raps as a monkey moaning about how humans have fucked up the earth.

    Hip Hop Wieners:

Pip Skid and John Smith's straight up hip hop album was an attempt to remind people that P&C isn't a label like Anticon but a hip hop label run by hip hop fans. It still contains the old P&C humour though.

    Mcenroe - Disenfranchised

The anticipated debut by one of the most consistant producer on the underground hip hop scene and probably the least hip hop record on the roster. Mcenroe raps about being bullied at school, going down the skatepark as a kid, all his musical influences and lets it be known that he doesn't give a fuck about being respected by hip hops higher order.

have a listen to some of the tracks on the site and let me know what you think!

    pz

  10. check out Prince Po (of Organised Konfusion fame)'s new stuff.

    http://www.lexrecords.com/princepo.htm

the Doom track is ill (as per fucking usual)

Also worth checking out is Murs' new ep/lp thing produced by 9TH WONDER. I haven't heard it yet but it should be dope as its 9th Wonder's biggest project since Little Brother (apart from the Jay-Z tracks). Don't sleep on 9th Wonder.

  11. On Madlib: I liked the tracks at the end of Shades Of Blue, the ones that sounded like the Bitches Brew sessions with Shorter/Hancock songs. So will I like this?

    B00005O7TY.01._PE6_SCMZZZZZZZ_.jpg

    Cheers.

Yes i think you will, the only problem I have with the Lp is that its very samey.

Good background music though and pretty impressive considering Madlib learnt to play keys in like 3 months or somthing.

  12. On the subject of 9th Wonder's Pete Rock-influenced vibe, anyone got this?

    B000089CGF.01._PE_SCMZZZZZZZ_.jpg

    Yes yes!

Dope LP, one of my favourites of last year and still gets played on the regular.

They're playing London's Jazz Café in a couple of weeks, I can't wait.

  13. Mine has a different tracklisting and includes an awesome Freddie Foxxx song.

I seem to remember there were 2 versions kicking about at release, one with a few vocal tracks and the other just instrumentals.

Cal, i'd love to go to see the Wu but i've been burned too many times by Wu gigs with only 1 member turning up and doing a 20 minute show.

  14. Hey, does anyone care to attempt a definitive Pete Rock discography? I'm listening to a live recording of that Jazz Cafe show and it's all so damn sweet. I've got music to buy. Any pointers, y'all?

    12. It's Like That

    13. Can't Front On Me

    14. The Basement (Featuring Heavy D., Robo-O, Grap & Dida)

    15. If It Ain't Rough, It Ain't Right

    16. Skinz (Featuring Grand Puba)

I'd start with Mecca and the Soul Brother mate. No duff tracks, its a bonafide classic. wooooo!

  15. So whos getting this then?:

    Funkmaster Flex's Digital Hitz Factory

    239050.jpg

Music creativity app for PlayStation 2 and a Xbox and the true sequel to the MTV Music Generator series, Funkmaster Flex's Digital Hitz Factory lets music fans create their own hits with the same tools that the pros use. Simulating a real-life recording studio, Digital Hitz Factory features 16,000 instrument sound samples and six different music styles including Hip Hop, Pop, Trance, Garage, Indy and Nu Metal. Mix beats on up to six virtual decks and produce your own music videos choosing from 1,300 clips and digital effects. By using V2m technology and an optional USB Microphone, you can even record your own vocals and samples. Available as a microphone bundle or as a standalone release.

I wonder if it lets record labels pay you to play their records?

  16. Went through a Necro & Non-Phixion stage, they have a rugged style and some nice beats on their album but (as I have said previously) I find their lyrics a bit boring and pointless (although "I shot Reagan" is a fucking classic!)

I kind of agree with you, i've never been into Necro and Non-Phixion are a bit dull (although their beats are tight but when you've got Pete Rock, Large Pro and Premier on the boards thats to be expected).

I really like Ill Bill's solo stuff though.
