I'm really thinking about starting BOTW fresh - never did complete it on the Switch.
I own both the game itself and a Switch and a Steam Deck - just wondering, for those also with both who might know - would playing it on Steam Deck be the better experience? Or best to just stick with the original at 30fps?
I read that the Steam Deck runs it very well at 40fps which is sooo tempting but equally I'm worried that it might break stuff and I'll be 40+ hours in to a game before finding out or something.
Anyone tried both and can say one way or the other?
Thanks a lot!
I think, IIRC, it's the WiiU version that runs well on the deck.

Perhaps grabbing it on Steam - Playing on SD.

There’s also certain bioses you need, to use the scrapers you need to sign up to some weird website, the file explorer in batocera seems to not see certain files. It’s definitely a beta piece of software at the moment.Eh?
What devices is that for? So far, SNES, GBA and PSP have just been a case of copying over the roms.
For me anyways, it has just been, burn to SD and boot (and copy ROMS)

Seems like a right ball-ache to get Minecraft on the deck. Any done it?

How do I find where third party apps are stored on the internal storage? I was updating emudeck and having a right nightmare with it. I accidentally chose internal storage when first updating it and I now have no idea where the bloody hell it was installed or how to remove it? Cheers
Probably doesn't help your situation - however, emudeck, as I understand it, spreads itself over lots of places in your SteamOS. That's why I preferred Batocera as it can live, by itself on a micro-sd seperate to SteamOS.

Apparently you don’t need one according to some people in this thread. They’ve never used one on their phones or any of their consoles and it’s never been an issue!I bought these. It installed fine and you wouldn’t know it’s on there. Also have a spare: https://amzn.eu/d/3iD6MFh
Any glass ones would be fine though I suspect.🤣
Indeed! And I stand by it! Literally never had an issue. Don't let your kids use your stuff for starters.

If anybody is looking for the next early access £4 vampire survivor style game Brotato is worth a look.
Deck verified and seems quite similar, not sure if the positive reviews are because its potato based but seems nice enough for £4.
Vampire Survivors is really good. +1.
Edit - Completely misread your post. My comment is irrelevant.

I installed windows yesterday on a new SD card and it seems to work ok. Found it a bit fiddly to swap OS, but I think I'd been holding the power button down instead of a press which sorta didn't work.. Really easy to install though using these instructions: https://www.tomshardware.com/how-to/install-windows-steam-deck
As soon as you hear the beep, let go of the buttons

I love the sound of this, but the switching between OSes looks like a pain. Does it have a proper standby mode? It's literally just holding down power and volume down
No bother

Noob question but with all the talk of random scripts influencing folder structure, can I put all my legal backup retro roms on the SD card when I use emudeck?
I heard Batocera is great but doesn't perform as well as emudeck because it's still pretty much in beta?
I've "heard" that anything upto and including WiiU is good on Batocera - even in the Beta image.

FWIW - it's just been delivered .... by Evri. Sorry @StephenM🥲

If you don't want random scripts to fuck with things, you can use Retrodeck. It'll just install and configure things that are already in the discovery store.
If you don't mind random scripts fucking with things, you can use Emudeck.
If you want your emulation stuff to be on another SD card entirely with its own operating system, you can use Batocera.
If you want everything kept seperate - Batorcera is the way to go, I think. Installs to a micro-sd card - and boots from the micro sd. Everything is kept and done on there. No fucking with your system.

I realise this has probably been mentioned a thousand times but things change fast, so - easiest way to set up emulation on the deck? Emudeck? I'm sure I read emudeck can be a bit shit with modifying folder structure and messing things up?
I've the 512gb model with no microsd card if that makes any difference.
Cheers!
FWIW I'm giving Batocera a go.

What about just the threat of chargeback to Valve?

Could end up killing his whole steam account if he does a chargeback.
So no options other than to wait for two seperate companies to sort their shit out, then? Mental.

Zero.
Every still saying 'we will let you know when its out for delivery' which has been over a week now.
Steam ticket logged 2 days ago with a follow up nudge today. No response at all in the ticket.
I have not tried to contact Evri via the CEO address as suggested as I was trying the official Steam Path first. I was hoping Steam will chase GLS who will kick Evri but I suspect at some point they will just say its lost. Its really poor.
Get the credit card company involved?

Of course GetMyDeck was bang on. It is not a prediction. It's simply a summary of actual orders that are known to have been completed.
Indeed. I know how it works. I was just being complimentary to it.

Shit just got real
1 week from "reserve" to purchase. GetMyDeck bang on too.

Yeah so I have been waiting a couple of weeks now -- Evri told me it was out for delivery last Saturday, then last Sunday, then their tracking said a delay, and nothing has shifted since then.
There are two ways people say you can speak to a real person -- one is to phone a number they don't publish, claim you're sending a parcel, give them a known good tracking number (I saw one on reddit), then when you get a person say 'Not really, I want to talk about this other parcel'.
Or - what I did - send an email to their CEO. Within 24 hours I got a call from someone on the team who has insisted it'll be investigated and he'll update me by Friday. I'd rather know if it was lost (or stolen) so at least I can get Valve shipping a new one out!
How much of this is on Valve to solve? If it were anything else, I'd be ringing up the company I bought an item from.

FWIW - This is MS' instructions on getting Steam Deck running with XGC
