  1. I wish more bio-pics would take wild dramatic license with the material. It seems like a no-brainer when the artists have spent their whole professional careers creating a larger than life public image to just role with it and make something big and fantastical. Prince did it a couple of times with Purple Rain and Sign o' the Times – admittedly the second is a live show, but kind of strung together with vague narrative. I remember watching Get on Up the James Brown one and thinking it was a missed opportunity. They skirted the line between fact and fiction so it was just a plod through his car
  2. Grease is another great musical I refuse to believe everyone doesn't like. It's quite unsavoury and rough around the edges but like in a good way, and mainly it's just a lot of fun. You're so used to seeing it parodied and hearing it at DJ Dave's mobile disco you forget every single frame is completely iconic. Travolta is absolute box-office too. While we're on the topic, Bohemian Rhapsody on the other hand is crap. It does that thing I hate where they reimagine what must be quite long and complicated moments in history and package them up in such a way that makes everyone look ama
  3. Kylie had a nice redemption story of going from Stock, Aitken & Waterman tosh to universally enjoyed and pretty interesting pop, whereas Madonna went the complete opposite direction. Everything she's made in the last probably 20 years has been dire. I'd always wanted to start a discussion on who was better: Madonna in the 80s, Mariah in the 90s, Beyonce in the 2000s and Robyn in the 2010s, but didn't because the answer was probably Roisin Murphy and we'd all squabble.
  4. I will say Ghost Song by The Doors is pretty good though. Jim Morrison’s ridiculous poetry seems alright when it’s just plonked on top of the noodly disco jazz-funk light whatever was left of the band decided to pair it with.
  5. I've not added it to them but it's quite straightforward through the distributor I use. I'll pop it on this weekend.
  6. Haha, thanks. Might be a bit of a step down for them though!
  7. I think it’s important that they stick to the essence of the original content which is having every single last episode involve Fred worrying about getting fired from work and then that not happening in the end.

All worth it to see that Spurs reject getting a red as they’re stretchering his old arse off the pitch. Would watch again.

Fuck me have this lot being doing glue on the bus.
  10. When I said white people make bad music it was just trying to be a provocative statement. The wider and more accurate statement is that lots of credit is given to white artists for revolutionising music and inventing genres and whatnot, and a lot of the time the absolutely crucial involvement of black culture is just missed out entirely. Now, I don't think that's as bad as it used to be, but it's certainly a thing. When Elvis' music is described it's still 'the clean and holy sound of Bluegrass mixed with the gritty low-down Blues' or some such. I mean we can all read between the lines. Look a

The way he's gone about it certainly isn't filling me with confidence and it just seems like a load of PR from where I'm sat. I find it very difficult to believe Vieira and to some extent Henry would be part of it too. Big Pat has been firmly part of the City machine in his post-playing days and incredibly distant from the club, and Henry wants to be a head coach so it makes zero sense to be on this theoretical board at Arsenal. Swapping one billionaire for another shouldn't be anyone's ambition because there's looming problems for all clubs that it won't solve. In any case I think Kroenke wou
  12. Apparently he still lives in the town which must be fun. Also, he got sued for a lot of money by one of his kids so if he earns anything it goes towards paying that off, and he can't file for bankruptcy to avoid it as that's an omission of guilt or something. Sounds like he's just sort of spinning his wheels and spending quality time with fellow intellectual Todd until he finally shuffles off.
  13. I’d forgotten there was a thread for this but did mention I’d watched it again in the Netflix topic. It’s still brilliant and what I found interesting is that the prosecution makes a huge blow poke for their own back with the murder weapon. I’ve read far better explanations that fit with all the timelines and the evidence and motives that were omitted from this documentary that would avoid it altogether and make the case a home run. I think the prosecution just weren’t very good and had bad expert witnesses and discredited methods, they just got gifted a few tap ins that sealed the deal in the
  14. This is all completely spot on. The Ted Kaczynski character is especially poorly realised as they made him out to be something between a criminal mastermind and Hannibal Lector, when actually the reality is far more interesting and probably more troubling. When I’ve seen interviews with him he’s actually quite a sympathetic character, which is mad considering what he did. I think the scene with the Slavic nachos may be the stupidest thing ever committed to screen.
  15. Has anyone attempted to play Mission: Impossible recently? I remember both loving and despising it at the time, and even then it looked astonishingly poor. I can't imagine time has been that kind to it, but the scope of it was amazing. Like the sort of game someone would propose who had precisely zero idea of how difficult it would be to produce. I found it in the loft the other day and had a pang of nostalgia.

I feel a bit for Nketiah as he's clearly a very good player but he only scores one type of goal. If he was in City's team he would be putting up some serious numbers, but we create next to nothing inside the box so he is constantly isolated. Balogun where I've seen him is more all action. I guess more like Danny Welbeck in some ways in that he's always busy and does a lot of running about. They're probably giving Nketiah minutes as they want him shifted in the summer.
  17. I needed some background noise on whilst I cooked tea and started watching The Staircase again, only to get completely engrossed in it once more. It's really interesting seeing it again now I'm of the opinion that SPOILER ALERT I think he totally fucking did it. SPOILER ALERT. He's a much better story teller than he is an actor.
  18. Little miss muffet sat on her tuffet snorting some THC Along came a spider, slid down beside her Said: what's in the bag bitch She said I'm laughin' at ya. Your move, Lennon & McCartney.
  19. It must be quite hard for these American investors to understand how you can own a business that has millions of essentially addicted customers who will ultimately pay whatever you ask, travel around the world to consume their product, buy identical versions of merchandise every single year, be a topic people cannot stop talking about and still the only people who make any money from it are the players kicking a bag of wind about every Saturday afternoon.
  20. The Beach Boys were loads better than The Beatles, but at least The Beatles had the good grace to acknowledge that.
  21. Sweet Jesus, that Manhunt: Unabomber isn't very good is it. In fact I would actually say it is really rather bad indeed.
  22. Well yeah, there is that. It’s funny how it works in football but almost the exact same incident happened in our game last week and we ended up conceding a penalty. That inconsistency definitely doesn’t help. It was just a wider point about VAR really. I think if they had any understanding of sport outside of their myopic view of striving for absolutely correct decisions at the expense of the actual spectacle of the game they’d drop it this summer and say they were revisiting it at a later date. Then set fire to their VAR caravan and all the video equipment and forget it ever happened.
  23. I think for all the talk of owners wrecking clubs and the structure of football itself, the actual game is already gone in its current state. I mean, what the fuck is this shit? This wasn’t even the action that led to anything, it was the move before an incident. They had to rewind the tape 20 seconds to find it. We hear talk of the ‘product’ all the time, but the product stinks. I genuinely feel annoyed and sad at the obligation to sit through top-level games now.
