  1. Just read about this amazing looking port here https://forums.atariage.com/topic/339630-lode-runner™-for-atari-2600/? More at the link.
  2. The very first Star Wars game ever released was The Empire Strikes Back. I played this a lot back in the day and found it reasonably entertaining. Others were less enthusiastic with Harlan Ellison blasting it in his review. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Star_Wars:_The_Empire_Strikes_Back_(1982_video_game) A young Jeff Minter was inspired to write an homage to the game as one of his early C64 works Attack of the Mutant Camels. https://llamasoftarchive.org/8bitgames/attack-of-the-mutant-camels/ Anyway years later Megastyle have made a port of the 2600 original and expanded upon it! https://megastyle.itch.io/esb-by-megastyle Worth a look, for those who played the old version to death there's loads of new touches. It's not just AT-ATs you'll be facing!
  3. Champ Games have just revealed they are creating a port of Turbo for the Atari 2600, a game that I was jealous of my Coleco owning friends enjoying. https://champ.games/turbo-arcade
  4. From For someone who was a fan of the first game I can't wait to see if they finish this one and what they do with it.
  5. I haven't tried it yet but someone has ported Spider Fighter (2600) to the C64. Download page here https://h4plo.itch.io/spider-fighter Video of it in action
  6. I don't think we've had a thread on this old game. I remember loving this back in the day despite it being something David Crane cobbled together in six weeks from his Car Wars prototype. Came across a video tonight that talks about how the account generator worked in such a way to create a "save" system with no onboard saving.
  7. Revealed at https://www.facebook.com/zeropagehomebrew/ Champ Games is going to release a 2600 port of Robotron 2084 with a demo going up on the forums there this weekend. Really.
  8. No really, people are making versions of Shadow of the Beast for older consoles. Intellivision http://www.indieretronews.com/2020/04/shadow-of-beast-proof-of-concept-for.html#more 2600 http://www.indieretronews.com/2020/04/shadow-of-atari-early-attempt-to-demake.html
  9. Just when you thought these classic 2600 to C64 ports were done comes another! Read the link for more. http://www.indieretronews.com/2020/01/crackpots-last-atari-to-c64-conversion.html#more
  10. Great story here about the post of Moon Patrol on the 2600 and a mysterious prototype put up for auction decades later https://medium.com/@atarispot/the-zorfon-mystery-6d1f58544254 Full story at the link.
  11. Not that Zoo Keeper. The other one. The obscure Taito arcade game from the early 80's. The platform screen would be easy to do on the 2600 but the :cage" screen? Can't be done. Or can it? Details here https://atariage.com/forums/topic/285571-zoo-keeper-2600-champ-games/page/3/?tab=comments#comment-4416494
  12. Full details here of the port by Champ Games. https://www.atariage.com/store/index.php?l=product_detail&p=1204&fbclid=IwAR2Q7YuEbR8Fj4Nbz_bBkpkm_eYrV91AGbsPxtyAfoXkVLRiH48XhoTVMCI The new version in action. The arcade port by CBS back in the day as a comparison.
  13. Exciting news for those of us who enjoyed the recent Chopper Command port. http://www.indieretronews.com/2019/09/keystone-kapers-another-atari-to-c64.html#more
  14. What I love about this port is the detail, down to the credits screen which is the same as the credits screen used in other Activision C64 ports. And they managed to get that amazing Activision sunset in, something that's harder to do on the C64 than the 2600. More info here http://www.indieretronews.com/2019/08/chopper-command-c64-final-version-will.html#more Unfamiliar with the game? It's a basic version of Defender where you need to take out planes and choppers before they hit your convoy. Bonus points are awarded depending on the jeeps remaining at the end of each round and that's it!
  15. Always wanted a port of this back in the day but decades later realised that it would have been impossible to port to the 2600. Or would it? http://www.indieretronews.com/2019/06/galaga-arcade-classic-as-upcoming-atari.html#more There's a link to a demo copy at the article although you'll need a new version of Stella to run it.
  16. More info here http://www.indieretronews.com/2017/10/draconian-awesome-1980s-multi.html#more Check out this amazing clone of Namco's Bosconian on the humble 2600. edit, just tried the prototype out and it's really faithful right down to having the voice samples. The big difference besides the obvious graphical downgrade is it runs a little slower than it's arcade inspiration.
