  1. I couldn't seem to find a thread anywhere for this even via google and was interested to start a bit of a discussion on it as I know little about it and have just started playing last night. Initial responses aren't exactly overwhelming and i'm guessing it gets better because the 7 out of 10 rating I had seen it get given just feels a lot higher than i'd have expected so far. Now i'm playing the PS3 version and from what I have read before, I think this is different from the other but I don't know if that means just features and extras or the whole game itself. The contols are the biggest problem I have with the game so far as they just feel unbelievable awful on top of a dodgy follow cam which sometimes ends up all over the place. The music very reminiscent of Obscure at times with some of the orchestral pieces and definitely the choir. It looks alright ish, but feels more action than horror at the moment. I think the layout being in a building where every turn the room gets ripped apart just makes the controls feel even harder to work with. I would like to know what others thought of this anyway. The only previous AITD game I have played before was the previous New Nightmare, which I regarded as a pretty decent game despite a worse score than this title. I think there's something about those static camera angles which I really like and the dodgy hard to get used to controls in classic RE style gaming which adds to the whole suspense. This edition just feels a bit messy so far, but i'm only about an hour into it or so having fought the first woman recently. It feels like im mimmicking the whole waggle just using the analogue stick to attack when you swing things. I think this is just one of those things to get used to.

What Are We Expecting: With 360 entering it's twilight years, MS are expected to be focussing on service and content announcements, with the highlight being the unveiling of their 'Woodstock' music service, which is largely thought to be MS's answer to Spotify. Another big focus of the conference will likely be the recently leaked 'Smart Glass' app, which will widen the reach of 360 to iOS and Android devices. The true wild card are rumors of some type of new hardware reveal, that isn't the next Xbox. There has been evidence that MS have something in the works, which many initially speculated were Durango developer boxes, but more recent murmurings suggest that MS could be going for a revised 360 model. On the games front, it looks as though MS will come out a lot stronger than many perhaps feared. Halo 4 is almost certainly going to be their big title, but recent leaks/announcements of a new Gears of War (developed by Epic owned People Can Fly), and an open world Forza game should keep the core happy. Doubtless Kinect will take center stage, but with Fable: The Journey, a new Panzer Dragoon, Steel Battalion: Heavy Armor, along with an exclusive Harry Potter game and Ryze, we should hopefully see more interesting demonstrations than the usual run of awkwardly stage prepped children fitting on stage. On top of this, MS's show is almost certainly going to feature the first big look at the next Call of Duty game (even though I wouldn't bet against Sony nabbing them this year, to showcase their Vita title) and along with a healthy showing of third party titles, all things being well, MS should have a decent show ahead of them. If anything it is nice to see the two mediums co-exist and not have one lag behind the other. I for one am keeping my eye on this.   6. Supposedly this is one of Microsoft's big E3 reveals. I've read that statement about 5 times and still can't make sense of it. At one point it reads lke they're releasing an Xbox branded tablet (good luck with that, I expect it would do about as well as all the other iPad competitors), then it reads like it's just be a gussied up version of the existing Xbox Live iOS App with a bit of Airplay style video and music streaming functionality,

  8. So, what better thread to start on a lazy sunday then a predictions and expectations thread about this years E3. It's only a month and a week away now, so better get those crazy and outlandish ideas in before the first inevitable leaks start seeping in. Personally I'm looking most forward to the Nintendo stuff this year: The final Wii U presentation, new 3DS games ea. I'm hoping we get to see the new Wii U Mario title, Pikmin 3, a new 3DS Zelda game (which will hopefully feat. Toon Link), more of Luigi's Mansion 2, more of Animal Crossing 3DS + it's actual name, more on Level-5's Fantasy Life, the rumoured The World Ends With You Too, the rumoured Kirby, Donkey Kong and Yoshi 3DS games, the rumoured Z.O.E. 3DS game. And of course a healthy amount of exciting eShop titles. And if I can dream, I'd like to see a Wii U F-Zero game, the announcement of an new Earthbound game, a Suda51 game for the WiiU (although he already said that he'd really like to do NMH 3 for the Wii U). I'm also keen on seeing what Sony will do with the Vita; both on trying to counter the pretty poor sales, and hopefully doing this Nintendo-style by announcing lots of great new and unexpected games for this little baby. Whatever happened to Dragon's Crown (and Grand Knights History for that matter...) ? Also excited about the PS4 actually, but just because I'm curious finding out about what we can expect from the next gen. Ah, and lest I forget: Will we see the reveal of a new 3DS model (with two sticks)? Last year I was convinced this'd happen at either E3 2012 or TGS 2012, so I wonder if I was right. Although I'm not so sure now... So, thoughts?

  10. Another day, another leak. EA uploaded this to Origin by mistake. So (from this extremely scarce information) it looks like it's probably set in a city environment again, but this time he has a bow and arrows! I remember I quite enjoyed Crysis 2, but I find that I can actually recall very little about it apart from a vague memory of it ending on a flying island and thinking that the story went pretty stupid towards the end.

From Famitsu, via andriasang.com: The second game in Grasshopper Manufacture and Kadokawa Games' partnership (following Lollipop Chainsaw) has been revealed in this week's Famitsu to be "Killer is Dead". Suda 51 is directing Killer is Dead, but it's not a sequel to Killer 7. The game promises to retain the essence of Killer 7 and No More Heroes, though. It also promises to be a sort of "Dark Side 007" story in that it will feature a number of beautiful Bond Girl-like ladies - hopefully not as carrier pigeons On the gameplay side of things, early reports indicate that the game will have swordplay à la "No More Heroes", but with new elements. The game's main character has a profession known as "an Executioner." And he goes around the world putting an end to S level criminals. Planning for the game began at the end of 2009. Actual development did not start until Spring 2011, though. The game is currently still quite early. Development of a prototype is either complete or nearing completion. The first draft of the game's scenario has just been completed. The key words for the game, according to Suda 51, are "Moon and Earth". The main character will visit a variety of places in order to fight his enemies. These enemies apparently have something to do with the Moon (?) Other keywords and themes include "Brilliant Game" (er...) and "Love." Love is an important theme for the game, said Suda 51, because the main character has someone he wants to protect, and he's fighting for this. The idea of "How far can you protect someone" seems central to the story as well. Killer is Dead will be released on PS3 and Xbox 360 in 2013.   12. Now it's old news that EA regularly shut down servers for the online components for games. But even by their shitty standards this one is a new low. EA's MMA game was released at the end of October 2010 (so actually it's less than 18 months old). It was one of those games that required an 'online pass' if bought second-hand and quick look at its achievement list shows that a lot of the achievements require online.

  15. Formerly known as True Crime: Hong Kong, before being axed by Activision, now due to be released by Square-Enix and the original developer, United Front Games of Canada. S-E seem to be putting the big money on this one, some lucky members of the press got bribed with free trips to Hong Kong recently
  16. So a few years ago Arc Systems Works was pretty much forced to move on from Guilty Gear. I don't know the details but presumably it came from Sega's merger with Sammy. Arc went on and did Blazblue, which was heavily based on Guilty Gear and that worked out quite well. Recently Arc announce that they had regained control over the Guilty Gear franchise. This week is AOU in Japan, and Arc have announced they will be reverse porting Guilty Gear Accent Core Plus to arcades. This in itself is nice news, but not especially relevant for people outside of Japan. However the better news is that Arc have already announced they will release it as a digital download with network play on Xbox and PS3 Now, it's not a new game, but it's certainly the first step towards a new entry in the series. BlazBlue has ended up running into the same routine as GG and most iterative fighters, so I wonder if they will return to GG for a while for a new title based on the success of this port. http://andriasang.co...ilty_gear_home/
  17. Press release Developer is Cyanide and publisher is Atlus. No idea at present if this is some sort of cheap and cheerful shallow rip off or will be a genuinely interesting RPG. There was an article in the New York press which stated that GRRM has written the story for this.

I know the first response of pretty much anyone when an internet account is comprised is to blame it on shadowy hackers using their l33t cyberskills to target them personally, then it usually turns out that it's an isolated case of some asshole social engineering a call-centre drone in Delhi and having 'Who is my favourite Ninja Turtle' as your secret security question wasn't the best idea. But over the past few weeks the reports of people's Xbox Live accounts being nicked and the perpetrators blowing all their points (or worse if they have a credit card linked to it) appear to be rising alarmingly. In particular this past Sunday (2nd October) appears to have been a real red letter day for people suddenly finding themselves locked out of their own Xbox Live accounts. Worryingly there doesn't appear to be any common factor apart from Xbox Live itself. To compound matters it doesn't appear MS customer service is particularly hot in this area, and even if you get on the phone to them the second it happens you can expect to be locked out from your account for a minimum of a month and no chance of a refund from MS for any money the perpetrators spend. EDIT: If have a credit/debit card linked to your Xbox Live account you can only remove it online if you've only used it to purchase XBL Points, DLC, Videos...etc. If you've ever used your card for the actual Xbox Live subscription then you have to up Xbox Customer Support and ask them to remove it manually. It seems people are being told by Customer Support that removing the card will result in you downgrading to Silver and losing the remaining Gold time you've already paid for. Thanks to the ever-helpful Sarge for pointing out customer rights in this area.   20. Reckon it's about time this baby had a thread of its own although we won't be seeing it until 2012, deep into that year I suspect given the obvious overlapping of interest with Skyrim. It's being developed by a new studio, 38 Studios, employing the talents of RA Salvatore (Drizzt!), Todd McFarlane and Ken Rolston (Elder Scrolls), and it seems to be an ambitious undertaking but of course competing with some tough opposition. Have no idea at this point in time how deep the lore will be or how extensive / rewarding the open world exploration. Publisher is EA. Gameplay wise it seems to be described as an "Action RPG" but hopfully will have genuine RPG elements. New Multiplayer Stuff: Load Outs Introduced in Reach, load outs play an even more important role in Halo 4's combat. Now fully player customizable, a load out consists of: Primary Weapon | Rifles such as the BR, DMR, Carbine and Light Rifle. Secondary Weapon | Support weapons such as Plasma Pistol and Magnum. Grenade Type | Frag or Plasma. The Promethean grenade type is considered heavy ordnance. Armour Ability | One recharging ability, similar to Reach's implementation. Tactical Package | One of the new classes of perks armour mods. Support Upgrade | The other class of armour mod. As players accumulate XP and progress through ranks, content unlocks for use in a number of custom load outs players can create, name, and save. The options players have to customize their load outs are determined by what content they have have unlocked, and what playlist they are in. You won't be picking DMRs when playing Grifball, for instance.Each matchmaking playlist will provide a number of default load outs, suitable to that playlist, so you don't have to unlock content to have access to suitable weapons. (For example, BTB will include default load outs with BRs and DMRs.) Universal Sprint Sprint is now a base trait, and metered very similar to Reach. Armour Abilities Similar to the implementation in Reach, armour abilities are a "fourth leg" to the combat sandbox, a reusable ability controlled by a recharging meter. Halo 4's set strives to correct the balance issues presented by some of Reach's, through removals, replacements, or rebalancing. Armour Mods Armour mods are perks which boost or add different passive abilities to players, selected as part of a load out. Divided into two categories, players can have one from each category active at a time. Armour mods are unlocked for use in custom load outs as players progress through the ranks. Note that the list below includes Specializations, some of which are locked away until 343 unlocks them. Player Progression: Halo 4's progression is a major departure for the series, making many of the items unlocked affect gameplay, rather than pure cosmetics (though there are plenty of those as well). In most other ways, it builds on ideas introduced in Reach. For a detailed review of the progression system, head here. Rank Players progress through ranks, dubbed Spartan Ranks, 1-50 through Spartan XP earned during War Games, Spartan Ops and Forge. Spartan points are awarded at each rank, which can be spent unlocking items in the armoury. Custom load out items are joined by cosmetic armour, decals and such to customize your Spartan IV with. XP is also earned by completing commendations and challenges. Specializations Once SR-50 is reached, players next choose one of eight paths, each of which consists of 10 additional ranks, and which unlock their own set of armor, decals, weapon skins and armor mods. Only one Specialization can be worked on at a time, and must be completed before moving to the next. At launch two are available, with the rest to be unlocked down the road by 343, unless you have early access via marketing promotions (namely the LE edition of the game or playing prior to November 20). Spartan Ops: Spartan Ops four player cooperative, episodic campaign where players take their Spartan IV into a series of missions set six months after the Halo 4 Campaign ends. A replacement for Firefight in the sense that it's gone and this replaces it, Spartan Ops is more akin to a second Campaign, broken into smaller, more focuses pieces. Features Players: 2-player split screen, 4-players online co-op Theater: Alas, also removed from Spartan Ops. Episodes Spartan Ops Season 1 is broken into ten episodes, but only one ships on-disc. The remaining episodes are delivered episodically, once per week, for the nine weeks after launch. Each episode begins with a CG cinematic, and consists of five missions, for a total of 50 missions (!!!). Customization & Progression Games of Spartan Ops reward XP just as War Games do, and contribute to the same progression through the ranks. Content unlocked in one mode can be used in the other, including custom load outs. Weapons unlocked via Spartan Ops are available in War Games, and earlier missions can be replayed with more advanced ordnance after doing so. War Games: War Games is Halo multiplayer, renamed and rebooted by 343. While Halo's core gameplay is very much intact, game types are pruned and redesigned, game systems are updated or added and the overall flavor of the game is quite different than what came before. Global Ordnance The new system used to spawn heavy weapons onto the map. Whereas past Halo games spawned in weapons at specific points and times, only the initial spawn at the start of a match if fixed in Halo 4. After, ordnance spawns in at various, per-determined points on the map, with the game system rotating both the locations and weapons selected from those the designers made available on that map and game type. Spawned ordnance carries a waypoint, so all players in the game knows it has appeared. Personal Ordnance Used in Infinity Slayer (and available in other game modes via custom options) is an additional ordnance delivery method, initiated by individual players. Medals earned and their associated points contribute to filling an ordnance meter, which when filled prompts players to select from one of three randomly selected options. These options can include power ups, weapons and grenades. Once chose, the ordnance will spawn in near the player. Power Ups Deployed as part of Personal Ordnance, they include Speed Boost, Shield Boost, and Damage boost, and do pretty much what you might think from those names. Kill cams Featured in specific game types, kill cams show a free camera replay of your untimely demise. Instant Respawn Featured in certain fast paced game types (think Slayer and Flood), players can choose to tinker with their load out between spawns, or hit a button to spawn in instantly. Objective focused games like CTF still feature timed respawns. Scoring Multiplayer now features personal scoring, with medals and actions accumulating XP and conveying each increment on-screen. Headshot +10 pic Forge: Halo 4's Forge is very much an iteration on Reach's version, for better or worse. Co-developed by Certain Affinity and 343, it remains an object editor for spawns, weapons and pre-built geometry for use in customizing, or creating custom, maps. Still allowing up to eight players to romp on a map in construction, it has a handful of improvements, among them: A "magnet" system to snap Forge pieces together neatly and quickly. Think Legos. The lighting system applies to Forge objects, improving the visuals of custom maps. Controls to rapidly duplicate or delete objects, to speed up the building process. Gravity zones, so that sections of maps can have altered gravity traits. Trampolines! Defined player trait zones, enabling players who enter them to take on defined abilities. Rather than the one giant "Forge World", Certain Affinity has built three smaller spaces for the construction of custom maps. Campaign: The story will be the most cinematic Halo experience to date, that will set the stage for the next decade of the franchise. Master Chief is back, and a new ancient and dark threat is going to be thrown at him that will not only test his abilities, but will give players an understanding just who he really is, all while introducing some new gameplay mechanics. Cortana will play a huge part in the story. Master Chief's armor design has been upgraded to provide the functionality needed to convey his power. Story will be darker and more sophisticated than past games. Multiplayer- Story wraps around the multiplayer experience for the first time in the franchise. - Players now control Spartan IV's, which promise to be just as powerful as Master Chief. - There is a reason why red and blue soldiers are killing each other. - Beyond the typical cosmetic customization options, players will be able to augment their Spartan IV's abilities and weapon loadouts, altering their gameplay styles for the first time. A lot of focus has gone into giving players a better sense of weight. - Audio design has been much improved and really gives a player a sense of where shots are coming from. - Maps have been built from the ground-up. - Two maps have been announced so far: War House and Wrap Around. - War House takes place in a civilian manufacturing plant that is travelling in a near space orbit above a gas giant. - Wrap Around is a small slayer style arena, set in a Forerunner facility, that contains catwalks, ramps, and plenty of man-cannons to keep the action fast and frantic.
