  1. http://deadline.com/2017/11/amazon-the-lord-of-the-rings-tv-series-multi-season-commitment-1202207065/ Amazon have reached a deal with the Tolkien Estate, Harper Collins and New Line. It's for a series set prior to Fellowship of the Ring and an additional unspecified potential spin-off. Apparently it will not be limited to material from the books and can include new material featuring the characters. This actually comes from the Tolkien Estate approaching studios rather than studios seeking permission. They had also approached Netflix and HBO. It seems Amazon are paying $200 million for the rights. Just the rights. Actually making the thing will be an additional hefty cost.
  2. 6 episode spy show starring Richard Madden, Priyanka Chopra Jonas and Stanley Tucci. Coming on 28 April. Weekly rather than a season drop. Citadel was the name of an independent, stateless spy agency. But it was destroyed by Manticore, with agents Madden and Chopra Jonas getting caught in a train explosion and losing their memories. But while living new lives 8 years later, they are contacted by former college, Tucci, needing their help to stop Manticore once more. See how much Bourne and Bond you can spot in the trailer
  3. Amazon have greenlit a Jack Reacher series. No casting news yet, but the first season will be based on the first novel, The Killing Floor. It'll be written by Nick Santora (of, erm, Scorpion and Prison Break), who will also be showrunner.
  4. https://www.thewrap.com/westworld-creators-jonathan-nolan-lisa-joy-the-peripheral-series-amazon/ Westworld's Lisa Joy and Jonathan Nolan are adapting the William Gibson book for Amazon.
  5. Sony Pictures Television and Amazon are making a Spider-Man Noir TV series. Set in 1930s, Great Depression New York. It's being written by Oren Uziel, who did 22 Jump Street, Shimmer Lake, Cloverfield Paradox, Mortal Kombat (2021) and The Lost City. He developed it along with Lord, Miller and Pascal. https://deadline.com/2023/02/spider-man-noir-series-oren-uziel-amazon-1235254599/
  6. With the Vikander sequel now dead, Amazon have Phoebe Waller-Bridge making a TV show. Writing scripts and exec producing, not starring. Not as far as casting a new Lara yet. https://www.hollywoodreporter.com/tv/tv-news/tomb-raider-tv-show-amazon-phoebe-waller-bridge-1235311582/
  7. Amazon come along with another hero show, based on a Garth Ennis and Darick Robertson comic. The show is developed by Eric Kripke, Evan Goldberg, and Seth Rogen. Stars Karl Urban, Elizabeth Shue, Antony Starr and a bunch more.
  8. Ridley Scott and Alcon are bringing Blade Runner to Amazon. Not really any details other than it being a sequel set in 2099, obviously. Maybe they'll do a reverse Recall and have this be like Total Recall, like how its TV show turned out to be Blade Runner.
  9. Jake Gyllenhaal is starring in a remake of Road House for Amazon, directed by Doug Liman. Don’t know why it needs to be remade, but there it is. He will be a former UFC fighter who takes a job as a bouncer in the Florida Keys. Conor McGregor will also be in it, presumably with the UFC link. But they say he isn’t playing himself. It’s supposed to be his first proper acting job. But can he act? Also cast are Billy Magnussen, Daniela Melchior, Gbemisola Ikumelo, Lukas Gage, Hannah Love Lanier, Travis Van Winkle, B.K. Cannon, Arturo Castro, Dominique Columbus, Beau Knapp and Bob Menery. https://deadline.com/2022/08/conor-mcgregor-jake-gyllenhaal-road-house-1235083836/
  10. 25 years ago, Granite City's superhero, Samaritan, was presumed killed in a fire battling his nemesis. But a 13 year old boy suspects his reclusive neighbour is actually him. Coming to Prime on 26 August
  11. Amazon have picked up Greg Daniels Upload, described as a sci-fi romantic satire. Stars Andy Allo and Robbie Amell.
  12. Not much news and I almost skipped over it until I saw it's to star Phoebe Waller-Bridge and Donald Glover. And has an Atlanta writer/producer on board. So I'll give that a chance. Coming next year. https://deadline.com/2021/02/phoebe-waller-bridge-donald-glover-reboot-mr-mrs-smith-as-amazon-series-1234693358/
  13. A live action adaptation of God of War is heading for Amazon. It's coming from Mark Fergus and Hawk Ostby, who developed and wrote some of The Expanse, as well as Iron Man and Children of Men. But also Cowboys & Aliens. Wheel of Time showrunner Rafe Judkins also involved.
  14. Turns out Amazon are doing a TV version of the Saoirse Ronan movie, Hanna. Which came out more years ago than I thought. David Farr, the movie co-writer, is writing this too. Coming in March. I liked the movie and it's odd style. So, for me, this has a lot to live up to.
  15. https://deadline.com/2021/09/she-ra-live-action-series-amazon-studios-1234832283/ Not a lot to report other than Amazon are making a live action version of She-Ra. I wonder what kind of budget they will give it.
  16. https://deadline.com/video/the-tomorrow-war-first-trailer-chris-pratt-amazon-sci-fi/ Chris Pratt stars in an Amazon movie where time travellers arrive from 2051 saying, in their time, they're losing a war against aliens. So they want people to go back to the future with them to help try to win the war. So they recruit a high school teacher (!) played by Pratt. He teams up with a scientist (Yvonne Strahovski) and his estranged father (J.K. Simmons). Out on 2 July Teaser is fairly light on content.
  17. https://deadline.com/2021/07/neil-gaiman-tv-adaptation-anansi-boys-amazon-1234797152/ Amazon have ordered a 6-part limited series of Neil Gaiman's Anansi Boys. Gaiman is writing the series with Lenny Henry and it's shooting in Scotland later this year.
  18. Amazon are making a live action movie of Hellsing. Some of you are probably familiar with the manga or anime of it. It's being written by Derek Kolstad, writer of the John Wick movies and the new Bob Odenkirk's Nobody.
  19. GI Joe's Lady Jaye is getting a spin-off show on Amazon. Supposed to be a standalone story, but with connections to the wider universe. https://deadline.com/2021/02/g-i-joe-tv-series-lady-jay-amazon-from-erik-oleson-paramount-tv-eone-skydance-tv-1234700747/
  20. https://deadline.com/video/welcome-to-the-blumhouse-trailer-amazon-prime-video/ An anthology of 8 Blumhouse movies coming to Amazon. 4 in October and 4 next year. I don't know if that means October next year. They've been churning out quite a lot of movies, with low budgets, often to good success, sometimes huge success.
  21. 7500, the code for a plane hijacking, sees Joseph Gordon-Levitt as the pilot of a plane doing a routine trip from Berlin to Paris, which gets hijacked. Apparently the whole movie is from the point of view of the cockpit, only seeing outside briefly when the door is opened or on a monitor showing just outside the door. JGL end up alone in the cockpit as he watches hijackers kill one hostage and threaten to kill more on the monitor unless he lets them in. Comes to Amazon on Friday.
  22. I'm sure I'm not alone here in having fond memories of the 1994 "The Tick" animated series, or the 2001 "The Tick" live-action series? Well, The Tick's creator Ben Edlund has been working on another live-action version, this time for Amazon's 2016 Pilot Season. Written by Edlund and directed by Wally Pfister (Christopher Nolan's usual cinematographer), the new pilot for The Tick stars Peter Serafinowicz as The Tick, Griffin Newman as Arthur, Valorie Curry as Dot, and Jackie Earle Haley as The Terror. http://www.denofgeek.com/uk/tv/the-tick/43176/the-tick-2016-pilot-review https://www.salon.com/2016/08/24/the-tick-vs-pilot-season-can-amazon-bring-back-the-big-blue-superhero/ http://www.polygon.com/tv/2016/7/21/12251774/the-tick-amazon-pilot-premiere-date http://uk.ign.com/articles/2016/08/18/the-tick-pilot-review
  23. The hoped-for (by execs) movie franchise is presumably dead but they're still doing a separate TV version on Amazon. Supposed to be more faithful to the books than the movie was, but I hear that's not a high bar. It apparently starts by covering the gunslinger's origins. Eastenders own Sam Strike will be Roland Deschain. Jasper Pääkkönen is Marten Broadcloak. He's from @kerraig UK's Jet Trash and something called BlacKkKlansman. Michael Rooker is Eldred Jonas, a failed gunslinger. There's also a rumour of Jerome Flynn playing Steven Deschain.
  24. This popped up on Amazon Prime over the weekend. Stars Donald Glover, Rihanna, Letitia Wright and Nonso Anozie. Directed by Hiro Murai. Not seen it yet but I've heard its good, certainly has some good names involved, and only 55 minutes. Apparently a musical of some sort.
  25. Amazon are doing an 8-episode series based on Simon Stålenhag's sci-fi art. Legion writer Nathaniel Halpern will be the showrunner and Mark Romanek directing the pilot. Apparently it's being pushed as one of their big scope genre shows. Some of the art, for those not familiar
