  1. Matthew Vaughn is helming a big budget spy action movie, based on a novel of the same name, which isn't actually released yet either. He's got a big cast in Henry Cavill, Sam Rockwell, Bryce Dallas Howard, Bryan Cranston, Dua Lipa, Samuel L. Jackson, John Cena and Catherine O’Hara. Lipa will also be providing music. They say there will be at least three movies.
  2. http://www.digitalspy.co.uk/tech/news/a552739/lovefilm-instant-to-become-amazon-prime-instant-video.html I used to be with Lovefilm, but left when they stopped renting games. At the time their streaming video service was nice as an added bonus on the subscription, but not something I'd have paid for on its own due to a poor library and apps only available on a very limted number of devices with rubbish update support. Not sure if this will tempt me away from Netflix, their original programming (House of Cards, Orange is the New Black, Arrested Development) blow away Amazon's rather uninspiring efforts in that area and without the introductory offer it's actually more expensive than Netflix (only by about £7 but still). The main argument for that price is the Amazon Prime delivery which i wouldn't particularly want. Still, more competition is good for us customers, not sure I'd want to be subscribed to two streaming services, but if they significantly improve their library I might take a look eventually.
  3. This time it's Sony. But it's already a write-off. Corden is in it. It's a musical comedy starring Camila Cabello as Cinderella. Minnie Driver is Queen Beatrice and Missy Elliott in talks to play the town crier. John Mulaney, Romesh Ranganathan and James Corden are mice/footmen. Also stars Pierce Brosnan, Billy Porter, Idina Menzel, Nicholas Galitzine, Maddie Baillio and Charlotte Spencer.
  4. https://deadline.com/video/the-tomorrow-war-first-trailer-chris-pratt-amazon-sci-fi/ Chris Pratt stars in an Amazon movie where time travellers arrive from 2051 saying, in their time, they're losing a war against aliens. So they want people to go back to the future with them to help try to win the war. So they recruit a high school teacher (!) played by Pratt. He teams up with a scientist (Yvonne Strahovski) and his estranged father (J.K. Simmons). Out on 2 July Teaser is fairly light on content.

    Free Guy

https://deadline.com/2019/12/free-guy-trailer-ryan-reynolds-shawn-levy-joe-keery-20th-century-fox-1202803053/ Ryan Reyonds plays a background NPC, Guy, in an open world videogame, Free City, who decides to take control of his life after being surrounded by videogame mayhem for 27 days straight. Directed by Shawn Levy. I like the opening text poking fun at the studio's new owners.
  6. The Venom sequel has a name now. Venom: Let there be Carnage. And it's been pushed back from 2 October this year to 25 June 2021, taking the date vacated by The Batman yesterday. As had been stated in the original movie thread, Andy Serkis is directing. Tom Hardy back as Eddie Brock/Venom and Woody Harrelson as Cletus Kasady/Carnage.
  7. The usual crew are back. Rock apparently won't be, but they're adding John Cena and UFC fighter Francis Ngannou. Michael Rooker also joining. Charlize Theron and Helen Mirren also coming back. There's rumours of Lucas Black too. It already started shooting a couple of months ago, and had an incident when a stuntman fell about 20 feet to the ground in Leavesden studios and suffered a bad head injury, being put in an induced coma for a while. No word on story yet, but it's shooting in London, LA, Thailand and Georgia (the country).
  8. Those maniacs. They're doing another. Directed by Dan Trachtenberg. I've still not seen The Predator.
  9. This probably isn't mainstream fodder. It's some kind of nightmarish sci-fi horror. He started on it during a lull in Robocop 2, then stopped for Jurassic Park. 20 years later he found everything in storage and has now completed it.
  10. 50 at the time of writing, but that's not important right now. Old is also the name of his next movie. Plot details are still secret, but it's apparently based to some extent on the French graphic novel Sandcastle. And it's clearly got something to do with time.
  11. It's got a release date of 22 July 2022, but not yet any information about the story Cast include Daniel Kaluuya, Keke Palmer, Steven Yeun, Barbie Ferreira and Brandon Perea.
  12. Jim Jarmusch is making a zombie comedy. Nothing really known about plot, but it stars Bill Murray, Adam Driver, Selena Gomez, Tilda Swinton, Steve Buscemi and Chloe Sevigny. It's already shooting.
  13. Jon Hamm is bringing back Fletch. He's starring and producing. To be directed by Greg Mottola. It's to be based on the second book, Confess, Fletch.
  14. https://deadline.com/2020/12/neill-blomkamp-horror-movie-pandemic-district9-elysium-1234651672/ Blomkamp was supposed to make The Inferno action thriller with Taylor Kitsch this year, but production was put off because of a global pandemic. So he and the studio switched gears and shot a new smaller, more nimble movie in isolated British Columbia with some Canadians. No name or details yet, but apparently a supernatural horror. Heavy on sci-fi and VFX, which is to be expected. Something he's always wanted to make. Should be finished in spring.
  15. Chad Stahelski, Keanu and Lance Reddick are back, at least. Joining them will be Donnie Yen, Scott Adkins and Hiroyuki Sanada. Japanese-British singer Rina Sawayama will also debut. It's set to start filming in summer in France, Germany and Japan, with a release date of 27 May 2022.
  16. A new one from Disney Animation. Raya is from a world named Kumandra, which is in peril. She goes on a quest to find the last dragon, to save her world. Sounds like she finds the dragon early, but the dragon, Sisu, is in human form and needs Raya's help to regain her power and become a proper dragon. The culture, design, etc. is supposed to be very south-east Asian. Apparently a bit of Hong Kong action movie vibe too. Cassie Steele is Raya and Awkwafina is Sisu. Adele Lim writing. Coming around Thanksgiving 2020.
  17. The next movie, after Soul, is Luca, set on the Italian Riviera. Dated for 18 June 2021, in the US. It'll be the feature directing debut of Enrico Casarosa, who grew up on the Riveria. He previously directed the La Luna short and worked in other parts of other Pixar and Fox/Blue Sky movies.

    Cruella

Another origin story. Emma Stone stars as Estella, a grifter in 70s London. Coming to...cinemas?...on 21 May.
  19. David Chase has been persuaded to resurrect The Sopranos. But it'll be set in the 60s, around the time of the Newark Riots. It's written by Chase and Lawrence Konner. If they're revisiting it, I do like the idea of a completely different timeframe.
  20. There were early indications of a sequel already, but now a third too, with Netflix reportedly paying $400m+ for them. Craig and Johnson both returning. https://deadline.com/2021/03/knives-out-two-sequels-netflix-400-million-plus-deal-daniel-craig-rian-johnson-ram-bergman-1234724575/
  21. Shang-Chi movie coming. I'm not sure if this is an MCU thing, but apparently he has been an Avenger, so I assume it is. They've got an experienced Chinese-American writer and are looking for a director who is Asian or of Asian descent. The character began in 1973, but obviously is going to be updated to avoid all those old stereotypes.
  22. Seems they are having another go at a theatrical movie version. Although they're giving it to Simon McQuoid, who doesn't appear to have directed anything or worked in any other movie role according to IMDB at least. But they have now cast Joe Taslim as Sub Zero. And they have promised it will be R-Rated and includes Fatalities.
  23. https://www.hollywoodreporter.com/heat-vision/zack-snyder-returns-movies-zombie-pic-army-dead-1178979 Netflix are letting Zack Snyder loose on Army of the Dead. He literally says "There are no handcuffs on me at all with this one". It's a heist movie set during a zombie outbreak in Las Vegas. A group of mercenaries are gathered to pull off the greatest heist ever attempted, inside the quarantined zone. Visionary.
  24. https://deadline.com/video/settlers-trailer-sci-fi-western-wyatt-rockefeller-ifc-midnight/ Set on a remote homestead on the Martian frontier, a refugee family from Earth try to make a better life. But strangers come from the hills to run them off. Stars Jonny Lee Miller, Sofia Boutella, Nell Tiger Free and Ismael Cruz Córdova. Trailer probably reveals too much
