  1. Rosario Dawson stars in DMZ, based on the graphic novel. It'll be a 4 episode limited series on HBO Max. I don't know the graphic novel, but apparently there's a second American Civil War. Manhattan is a DMZ and Dawson is trying to find her lost son there. Coming on 17 March. Looks like the whole series dropping at once.
  2. Amazon have bought MGM for $8.45billion 😯 https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/business-57249849.amp
  3. Yet another game becoming a Netflix show. Maybe "the Netflix of games" is just Netflix making TV shows of games. Supposed to be set in the past and telling the origin stories of several characters from Piltover and Zaun.
  4. Reeves and Pattinson's The Batman is getting a TV spin-off based on Gotham City Police Department. Not yet titled, but some are calling it Gotham Central. The series will be written by Terence Winter, of The Sopranos, Boardwalk Empire and Vinyl. Sound's like a more serious affair than the madness of the previous GCPD show, Gotham. Also separate from the Batman-adjacent Arrowverse, the DCEU movies and the pre-Batman Pennyworth which are still on the go. Enough Batman universes?
  5. A live action adaptation of God of War is heading for Amazon. It's coming from Mark Fergus and Hawk Ostby, who developed and wrote some of The Expanse, as well as Iron Man and Children of Men. But also Cowboys & Aliens. Wheel of Time showrunner Rafe Judkins also involved.
  6. Thought it was worth separating discussion of the upcoming TV show from The Avengers thread as it's now been given an official title and synopsis and more news/pictures/video should start trickling out over the coming weeks. A new piece of news that's just come out is that J. August Richards (Gunn from Angel) has also been cast in a 'secret' role. Let the speculation begin. My wild guess, maybe Luke Cage, that's a character that would allow them to add some superpowers to the mix but one who might not support a film in their own right.
  7. This'll probably go down like a lead balloon. It's already a classic and has an English dub regarded as exemplary. Can they possibly make any improvements? It's coming from a studio that also feels the need to remake Snowpiercer.
  8. New on Netflix, from Adi Shankar. Superhero satire. Very much faux-80s schlock. Wears a low budget on its sleeve. Live action, but with lots of animation of various types. Only 7 20 minute episodes. Fuck knows what kind of hot mess this could be, for better or worse. Includes Christopher Judge, Jane Seymour, Denise Richards and Derek Mears.
  9. Mr. Robot's Sam Esmail is doing a mini-series of Fritz Lang's 1927 movie. Probably won't come for another 2 or 3 years though. It'll be made by Universal Cable Productions, who are apparently prepared to spend $10 million per episode. While it's being made by a Universal company, it won't necessarily be sold to air on a Universal channel, so could go anywhere. At least this seems more appropriate than most recent remakes, coming over 90 years after the original.
  10. It's got a date now, so I'll drag it out of the general thread. Coming on 24 November.
  11. Another version of the story, this time starring David Tennant as Phileas Fogg. It's being made by a group of European broadcasters and looks like it will have a multinational cast. It's due to air towards the end of 2020 and will be on BBC in the UK.
  12. http://variety.com/2018/tv/news/simon-pegg-nick-frost-stolen-picture-tuth-seekers-1202668059/ After Slaughterhouse Rulez, the next project from their own Stolen Picture company is Truth Seekers. It's a half-hour comedy-horror series about three paranormal investigators. Each episode will be focused on a different incident. Pegg says it starts off as a parochial little business but becomes something more global. They also mention developing a film about a double act who haven't spoken for decades and reunite one last time. All that makes me think is "It won't be half as good as Bernie Clifton's Dressing Room".
  13. Another DC show coming soon. Derek Mears, who seems to play a lot of large men and monsters, is in the suit. Crystal Reed is the female lead, Abby Arcane, who is investigating the swamp. Jeryl Prescott as Madame Xanadu, your typical blind fortune teller with supernatural perceptions of the future. Ian Ziering is Hollywood has-been Daniel Cassidy, aka Blue Devil. Kevin Durand is Jason Woodrue, a brilliant, but villainous, scientist researching the swamp. It begins on 31 May.
  14. Came out on Hulu in November, but now on Disney+ over here. Animated show based on the comic. Not part of the MCU. About a Japanese macaque monkey and the ghost of an American assassin taking on the Tokyo underworld. Stars Ally Maki, Olivia Munn, Nobi Nakanishi, Fred Tatasciore, George Takei, and Jason Sudeikis.
  15. https://deadline.com/2018/06/wu-assassins-netflix-martial-arts-crime-drama-series-iko-uwais-stars-1202419729/ Iko Uwais stars in Wu Assassins, a martial arts sci-fi crime drama on Netflix. He is also lead martial arts and fight choreographer and stunt coordinator. Also stars Byron Mann, from The Expanse, Hell on Wheels and others you've probably seen him in.
  16. Oh God, FX have gone and ordered a pilot for Mayans MC.
  17. An unusual premise this, and based on the first episode it will be well worth a download every week. Michael C Hall (Six Feet Under's David) plays Dexter, who is a serial killer. He's also a CSI-type cop. The dark comedy style is similar to SFU, and whilst it will never hit the heights of that show, it will be an entertaining and interesting 45 minutes every week. It is also on Showtime which means they won't hold back on the gore. If it wasn't for Heroes, this would be my highlight of the brand new shows so far this season. First episode of eleven was on Sunday and is Out There now.
  18. Dean Devlin bringing a new show to Syfy. Stargate SG-1's Jonathan Glassner showrunning. It takes place 100 years in the future, with colonisation of other planets just beginning. The first colony ship, Ark One, suffers a catastrophic destructive event of some kind with a year left to reaching their target. With leaders and life sustaining supplies gone, they must figure out how to survive and get there. Starts production in Belgrade in March.
  19. Scott Pilgrim is coming back to screen, as an anime on Netflix. Bryan Lee O’Malley, who wrote the graphic novel, will write and be co-showrunner. It'll be animated by Science SARU, so it should at least look interesting.
  20. The Jinx is an HBO documentary series that recently finished. It's also one of the most incredible pieces of television I've ever seen. It's about the New York millionaire Robert Durst and his possible involvement in three murders. I don't want to go any further than that because the less you know, the better. If, like me, you found out about it on the news you might have already heard some of the more explosive details, but it's still definitely worth seeing. So, my advice: 1) Ignore any news about Robert Durst, and certainly do not google him. 2) Aquire and watch the six episodes of The Jinx ASA fucking P. 3) Make sure to watch the whole thing. It's only six eps. You might come away from the first three or so thinking it's just a competent documentary. Stick with it, it's much more than that.
  21. https://deadline.com/2015/11/lost-in-space-tv-series-remake-netflix-1201587644/ Legendary TV is remaking Lost in Space, with Netflix winning a bidding war. Neil Marshall is involved and expected to direct. Not sure about the writers though. They did Dracula Untold, The Last Witch Hunter and the weird looking upcoming Gods of Egypt. Didn't bother watching the first two as they seems to be bad. If Rottentomatoes are to be trusted, they turned out awful.
  22. Heo Sung-tae and Gong Yoo from Netflix show Squid Game and Bae Doona from Netflix show Sense8 star in 8-part Netflix show The Silent Sea. Coming on 24 December. In the future, Earth is turning to desert. A team are assembled to retrieve a mysterious sample from an abandoned lunar base, which will apparently help save Earth. It's based on a 2014 short, The Sea of Tranquility. Both directed by Choi Hang-yong.
  23. Turns out Amazon are doing a TV version of the Saoirse Ronan movie, Hanna. Which came out more years ago than I thought. David Farr, the movie co-writer, is writing this too. Coming in March. I liked the movie and it's odd style. So, for me, this has a lot to live up to.
  24. https://deadline.com/2018/07/the-nevers-joss-whedon-hbo-series-order-1202426230/ HBO have picked up a new Joss Whedon show, ordered straight to series. He'll be writer, director, executive producer and showrunner. It's a Victorian science-fiction show about a group of women "with unusual abilities, relentless enemies, and a mission that might change the world."
  25. Another show joining the DC Universe shows. Not sure it'll be connected to Titans or Doom Patrol. This one involves the Justice Society of America. Brec Bassinger is in the title role and her alter-ego Courtney Whitmore. Also Luke Wilson as Pat Dugan, pilot of Stripe, a 15-foot robot he invented. Lou Ferrigno Jr. as Rex Tyler/Hourman, Brian Stapf as Ted Grant/Wildcat, Henry Thomas as Charles McNider/Dr Mid-Nite. Amy Smart also playing Barbara Whitmore, Courtney's mother and Pat Dugan's new wife. Also Joy Osmanski, Neil Hopkins and Nelson Lee as Tigress, Sportsmaster and Dragon King, members of The Injustice Society. The show is being run by Geoff Johns. Won't be coming until early next year. Official synopsis First official pic unveiled at Wondercon yesterday
