  1. Nintendo finally provided an update on the new Yoshi game for Switch. Confirming the final name Yoshi’s Crafted World, the game launches Spring 2019. Yoshi's Crafted World will allow players to join up with a friend, which is a nice touch; and it also lets players walk backward, practically a sin for side-scrolling platformers. Other than that, Yoshi’s new adventure seems to be much akin to his previous one, except much, much glossier. Which should be alright. So, the game is a side-scrollingplatformer where 3D characters are moved on a 2D plane. Unlike most side-scroll
  2. The family business, in this case, is racking up as much money as possible before being killed. Some words by me! Some words about it from other RLLMUK folk! Buy the game, and post your own words here! Words.
  3. Graphics in the style of old Fleischer cartoons. Looks damn nice.
  4. So, Kirby Triple Deluxe then. Hal's new handheld Kirby game. The very first gameplay details were recently revealed. - Apparently, this time there's a new "bell" power-up, and with this power-up, Kirby holds a bell in each hand, and has a bell on his head. The bell attacks with sound, and pressing the button repeatedly makes the sound even louder. You can go inside the bell to protect yourself. There’s also the beetle power-up, and a “Hyper Nova” power which seemingly allows Kirby to “turn rainbow”. Kirby will suck all the things up in super-powered suck that has been featured in the trailer
  5. https://balanwonderworld.square-enix-games.com/en-gb/main/ This video includes their introduction with English subtitles, as well as the trailer: Edit: Here's the longer version, from the official site And the trailer alone: Looks like a very traditional platformer, with character design that fortunately looks a lot more NiGHTS than Blinx. In particular, those bosses look extremely NiGHTS-y - not just their character designs, but also their attacks (spike balls and flames) remind

  7. Will admit, I robbed whole parts of this off the thread on ResetEra. This looks incredibly beautiful. Eurogamer says: Endgadget: The platforming seems a bit simplistic, but I really does remind me of a 2D Journey, in that it's more about the experience than navigating tricky environments. It's out December this year on Switch and PC.
  8. Announced earlier today in Nintendo Direct was Chibi-Robo! Zip Lash ( or Guru-Guru! Chibi-Robo! as it is known in Japan), a new entry in the rarely-revisited series. Unlike previous games, Chibi-Robo is now the star of a pint-sized platformer and can use his cable to whip enemies, break blocks and grapple walls throughout the different side-scrolling stages. Despite the genre switch, Chibi-Robo!: Zip Lash still features elements from previous entries in the series like Chibi-Robo’s constantly draining energy. The game will also release alongside a Chibi-Robo amiibo (!!). Points earned by cle

  10. I've posted about this before in the Kickstarter thread, but even though the game is crowd-funded it's not actually on Kickstarter (it's a fixed funding project on Indiegogo instead) and that thread perhaps doesn't give it the exposure it deserves. The game is in its last week of funding and still needs about 300k at the time of writing, so any help is welcome at this stage, So what is Indivisible? In short, it's a hybrid of a 2D Metroidvania game (in that it has a large interconnected map, platforming, areas that are locked off until you have certain items or skills, secrets and even some se
  11. La-Mulana was a Japanese freeware PC game originally released in 2005. As a text-heavy platform adventure, it failed to make any waves outside of Japan's nascent indie scene until translation group Aeon Genesis provided an English patch, making it accessible to a much wider audience. AG are the same group who gave us the first English translation for Cave Story, a game with which La-Mulana shares more than a little in common. After going down well as a charming (if fiendishly difficult) romp through ancient temples and dangerous dungeons as an Indiana Jones lookalike called Lemeza Kosugi, La-M

  13. A new Kirby game deserves a new thread! Harness the power of a mysterious mech to stop the ruthless Haltmann Works Company from mechanizing Kirby’s home world. Smash through tough obstacles, lift heavy objects with ease, and scan enemies to shape-shift into new Modes with powerful abilities in this supercharged action-platformer! That’s right - Kirby’s Robobot Armor can shape-shift into different modes by scanning enemies to copy their moves - like the new Jet Mode. Not to mention, Kirby can copy abilities the old-fashioned way too - by inhaling them! After saving the world, t
  14. Recently revealed in Edge, but as far as I can see it has no dedicated topic yet. Playtonic consists mostly of ex-Rare staffers from their golden days who want to bring back the cartoony collect-a-thon 3D platformer. They're not the first - look at A Hat in Time for example, as well a rumours that Rare themselves are working on a new Banjo set for reveal at E3 this year - but they are probably the most notable, considering their pedigree. http://www.playtonicgames.com/team.html The Guardian had a nice article on them recently. http://www.theguardian.com/technology/2015/mar/13/playtonic-rare-b
  15. I can't see a proper thread for this, which is criminal because it's ace. If there is a thread, I apologise. Go go thread-merge rangers. What is it? Guacamelee is a 2D Metroidvania by Drinkbox, who previously made "Tales From Space: About A Blob" and "Tales From Space: Mutant Blobs Attack!". But what is it? It's a game where you run around a "Day of the dead" (think Grim Fandango) themed world as a brawny luchador wearing a mystical luchador mask, smashing the shit out of skeletons, engaging in platforming sections and chuckling at millions of videogame references dotted around the levels, whi
  16. The first Kirby game for the Nintendo Switch has finally been named: Kirby Star Allies is a platform game played from a side-down perspective. Players control the series' titular protagonist Kirby can be accompanied by up to three companions. Kirby can throw hearts at enemies to turn them into his allies. The game can be played alone with the game's AI controlling companions or co-operatively with other players controlling companions. When Kirby has companions, new special attacks become available which allow Kirby to combine his abiliti

  18. Probably coming out on the Vita as well. Still need to get a Vita first...
  19. I discovered this by watching a Matt Lees vid, it's neat! By the chap what made Ben There, Dan That. Youtube of Matt Lees' Let's Play: What is it? It's a platformer roguelike, in which you rob money from procedurally generated houses / warehouses etc over the course of a 100 day end-game time limit. Oh and it's steampunk London and has brilliant music. As you rob places, you'll find money laying about (relatively small amounts) and computers to hack (relatively large amounts). If your character dies, or you complete a heist by returning to base, a day passes. Enemies in the stage ar
  20. Created by Edmund McMillan (Team Meat) and Tyler Glaiel (Bombernauts), a new platformer: It's not Meatboy but it sort of is and it's probably the closest we'll get for a long while. July 12th hype!
  21. RLLMUK, Y U NO LOVE THOMAS?! If you haven't heard of Thomas Was Alone, it's a game about rectangles. "How droll, let me go back to taking arrows in the knee and watching Extended Cut Endings". No. You see, although it's a simple platformer puzzler with rectangles, the rectangles have personality. In fact you grow attached to the little blighters thanks to the excellent narration by comedian Danny Wallace. "Oh god that twat from Assassin's Creed". Yes, that one. But he's really good in this. The writing's great too, it's funny and light-hearted and paints each rectangle as an evolving AI with i
  22. As some of you may or or may not know, Two Tribes - the Dutch indie studio that made Toki Tori amongst others - just released its latest game. They won't make any new ones, so they're going out with a bang, quite literally. Rive is a shooter/platformer in which you control a little tank with hacking abilities and a lot of firepower. I've played through the first five levels and I really dig it. It harkens back to the good old days of pure arcade goodness and challenging gameplay. It controls well, runs smooth, sounds fantastic and doesn't take itself seriously. A pure videogame. Well worth it.
  23. So, even the mighty Edge is going with it then... ( > http://www.edge-onli...land-for-wii-u/). Yesterday rumours started doing the rounds that Mario's pet dinosaur will be the star of the WiiU's next big platformer. Reasons for this was a Canadian retailer listing Yoshi's Land as one of the imminent releases for the WiiU. Add to this the fact that one zealous NeoGAFer stumbled accross the title when messing about in the WiiU's debug mode, and you've got a rumour that makes the hearts of any Nintendo fan skip a beat. Meanwhile, Nintendo has already stated that it doesn't want to co
  24. This has now been confirmed by a Playstation Blog listing by a Sega rep. http://blog.us.playstation.com/2013/04/15/castle-of-illusion-coming-to-psn-this-summer/ No word on other platforms, I'd be very surprised if it's not released on 360 at least. PS3,360,PC confirmed
