  1. Teaser trailer: E3 2019 trailer: Final trailer: The Final Fantasy VII remake will use a more modern art style for Cloud, similar to his appearance in Dissidia Final Fantasy or Final Fantasy VII: Advent Children. It is being created to celebrate the 20th 23rd anniversary of Final Fantasy VII. The game will be directed by Tetsuya Nomura, with a scenario written by Kazushige Nojima, and will be a timed PS4 exclusive. Official Japanese site: >> http://ffvii-remake.square-enix.com/ Didn't Square-Enix once claim that they'd never do such a thing? I think they did, but that doesn't really matter now. Out on March 3 April 4 10, 2020
  2. Just announced, coming to PS4, Xbox and Pc in 2018.
  3. Many, many, many, many years ago now, there was a PS2 game called SOS: The Final Escape. It was a cheaply made, janky game where you had to navigate around this artificially created island as it slowly fell into the ocean around you. Along the way, you had to help survivors from earthquakes, fires and floods. It was amazing. Like those properly ridiculous, OTT Japanese games you used to get quite often on the PS2 era. The game spawned a couple of sequels which weren't localised (My preorder of Raw Danger was 'Coming Soon' for about 10 years), but in 2011, Disaster Report 4 was meant to be released on the PS3. The game was completed and due for release in Japan but then the Tōhoku earthquake and tsunami happened. The game was shelved and the release cancelled. Fast forward to April 2020 and with no worldwide emergencies happening at all, the game is being released on the PS4 and Switch this week! My Switch copy arrived yesterday and I've put a fair few hours into it. If you played SOS, you'll know what to expect. I'm not going to be kind here - the game is janky as hell - particularly on the Switch. The framerate is terrible (something that doesn't usually bother me, but it's really noticeable here) and there's a weird ghosting of images in places. I'd strongly advise getting the PS4 version over this. I'm tempted to double dip myself. Also, it's very old school in the way it controls - your character is very stilted in his movements - and it always feels like you're fighting the camera. And the localisation is terribly, hilariously bad. But if you can tolerate these things, this game is amazing and hilarious in equal measures. So in the middle of this huge earthquake and in this disaster zone, my character pretended to be a sales attendant at a convenience store to sell products to customers in order to get another guy to tell me where the toilet rolls were so I could help another guy get out of a toilet cubicle. So yeah...it's very Japanese. And when the buildings start collapsing around you, it does a great job at making you feel vulnerable. It's not for everyone - you should probably try the demo on either the PS4 or Switch to see what you think. But if you have any love for the old style, PS2-era, janky, oddball games then give it a shot. It feels like the kind of game you don't get anymore because everything is streamlined and playtested to the nth degree. And you know what? So far I feel like I've got more enjoyment out of it than any other game I've played this year. The whole thing is just so endearing.
  4. Coming to Kickstarter soon. This blog post is slightly unpleasant in its begging but just you try not to be excited! http://www.codemonkey.me.uk/view_blog_entry.php?blog_entry_id=133

Send friend request to @McSpeed (PSN = Joe_McSpeed) to be added to lobby and chat [Original post by MattyP:] Well looks like we will be getting another installment of Gran Turismo this year (hopefully)! Couldn't find another thread on this (did a quick search though so feel free to merge) so thought I might start one... One of the shortcomings of the GT series over the years is the sound however it's looking good this time as some focus seems to have been put into this! http://uk.ign.com/articles/2017/06/28/gran-turismo-sport-creator-kazunori-yamauchi-talks-sound-steering-wheels-and-shifting-gears-ign-first Sounding very impressive so far...
  6. I know we have dedicated next-gen threads, but I started a fresh one for this because at this point in the cycle any specific discussions will end up buried under the avalanche of ZOMG MY STATUS JUST CHANGED TO PUTTING STAMPS ON THE PARCEL!!! The headset that comes with the PS4 looks like it was made by Blue Peter, the Xbone headset looks better but I up imagine a lot will want to replace with their own. What recommendations do people have for decent headsets to use with next-gen. I understand that the PS4 will use pretty much any headset as long as it has the right jack. Anyone have any recommendations for a decent over-one-ear + mic model (as I still want to hear the game audio through the TV)?
  7. Release: 28th April 2017 Formats: PS4, Switch Price: £24.99 (PS4) £34.99 (Switch) What is Puyo Puyo? What is Tetris? Really? You know this! So what is Puyo Puyo Tetris? Gameplay Why should I get this? Puyo Puyo Tetris is quite simply the best competitive puzzle game on the market. The mashup works really well to create some really interesting modes, but even if that isn't for you, then you can play straight up Puyo vs and Tetris vs. Or even simple traditional single player Tetris and basic Puyo. Both Tetris and Puyo are the very best in the puzzler field and they work just as well together as they do individually. There is a simplicity to the games, but as the cliche saying goes. Simple to play, difficult to master. You only truly understand the skill levels involved when you take on other players. Much like the fighting game scene. Don't be put off though, as it is a lot more inviting than that genre and you can compete as you improve. The game was previously released in Japan only on Xbox One, PS4, PS3, PS Vita, Xbox 360 but only physically, due to some odd licensing laws. This Western release is only on Switch and PS4 unfortunately, however on the Switch the game is available digitally for the first time. I implore you to get this, not just because it is great, but it might mean we start to see further releases of Puyo titles in the west and maybe even a resurgence of the likes of Super Puzzle Fighter and other games influenced by Puyo and Tetris. 8. NOTE: Please see the below thread for dedicated discussion of Persona 5 Scramble; hopefully my thread can be the home of vanilla and Royal chat! Free legacy DLC for P5R: https://store.playstation.com/en-gb/product/EP0177-CUSA17419_00-P5RDLCBUNDLE0001 - once it's downloaded, check the cardboard box in your room to unlock it. Also, you may need to restart the game before it recognises the content. UPDATED OP: This is now an OP about Persona 5 Royal. Like P4 Golden and P3 FES, this new game is intended to be a sort of "deluxe" update to 2017's Persona 5, with new events, a new "Phantom Thief" character named Kasumi, a customisable personal palace (named "My Palace") and other bits and pieces. Previously we found out that it would be released in the west around "Spring 2020", but on December 3rd 2019 we found out that the game would be released on March 31st 2020. Additionally, there will be the opportunity to place a digital pre-order and get an original P5R theme. P5R owners will also get original P5 DLC for free, and there are a few different editions of the game to look out for - the Phantom Thieves Edition (includes a Joker mask with stand, art book, physical disc and steelbook, soundtrack, dynamic PS4 theme), the Launch Edition (physical disc, steelbook, dynamic PS4 theme code), the Ultimate Edition (digital download, DLC bundles, bonus costume packs), and the Deluxe Edition (digital download, Kasumi costume pack.) Those DLC bundles will be available as separate purchases too; there's a Kasumi costume pack, a "battle bundle", a "persona bundle", and a "DLC bundle". I had mixed feelings about the original version of Persona 5 - in terms of content and presentation it was one of the most polished games in the series so far, but the more ambitious sequences that formed large portions of gameplay in the palaces sometimes threatened to overstay their welcome. So I'm kind of hoping that Royal comes with dungeon design that's perhaps a little bit tighter... but even if P5 wasn't my favourite game in the series, it's still a pretty good RPG in its own right and I look forward to having another excuse to revisit the world of the Phantom Thieves... http://www.atlus.com/persona5/ If you're wondering what a Persona is, I've provided a little primer below:

Other notable new features: Resources for New and Returning Players How do I...? Rocket jump: Tap melee and jetpack in quick succession and you'll perform a boosted rocket jump that moves you a fair amount forward. Bear in mind that this causes life support to drop quicker than usual (as does any use of jetpack), for a split second, which is critical if you're playing Permadeath or Survival mode. Toggle first person/3rd person view: press down on the d-pad and scroll left or right until you come to the camera options. Note: there are separate toggles for flight and while on foot. If you toggled 3rd person while walking, you'll have to do it again while flying if you want 3rd person for both. Get a freighter: given this is kinda part of normal progression, I'll put it in a spoiler. It's not really a spoiler, per se Get nanites: Call up your scanner while on foot and scan flora and fauna. Go to the Discoveries tab in Options (PS4 pad) and upload the discovery to get nanites. Nanites no longer take up inventory space, and it's much easier to get them. 10. Fell Seal: Arbiter's Mark Price: £19.99 (ish - varies on which store) Genre: SRPG Metacritic: 86% This has quite possibly the worst title for a game, ever. Seriously - it's awful. But as far as turned based SRPG's go, it's really good. It's Final Fantasy Tactics Advance, basically. But as Square show little interest in bringing that back, this will have to do. The story is generic as they come (An Immortal Council choose you as an agent to bring peace to the land...), but it plays a really decent turned based game. Combat is pretty straightforward, but there's a great job tree and character creation and customisation tools and I've spent far too long making characters for my squad. Some of the later classes look massively overpowered, but it'll take a while to get to them. Honestly, the only reason I'm making this thread is because the game reminds me so much of FFTA with bits of Disgaea thrown in. I bought the Switch version yesterday (40% off in the sale this week!) and I've out about 4 hours in since. There seems to be such a shortage of good turn based SRPGs recently, that I thought I'd share the love.
  11. Colour me excited for this. We know that Remedy tends to keep elements from earlier games around in later ones and this gives off a very Quantum Break vibe to me:

  13. Haven't read about this at all on here... and thought if true it deserved a thread all of its own... From Eurogamer.... PlayStation 4 VR headset finally coming at GDC - report Sony's virtual reality bet just weeks from announce. By Tom Phillips Published Friday, 21 February 2014 Sony's PlayStation 4 virtual reality headset will finally be unveiled next month at GDC 2014, a new report suggests. TechRadar reports that the anticipated VR device will be formally announced at the San Francisco conference next month, which begins 17th March. Like the Oculus Rift headset, the virtual reality visor will wrap a pair of screens onto the wearer's head. But, unlike Oculus, Sony is expected to have perfected the technology to a degree that multiple versions of the hardware won't need to be released. "Sony has deliberately taken its time to tweak and polish the headset before revealing it," a source said. "People will definitely be impressed with what Sony's built." Eurogamer broke news of the headset last September, when we learnt that it had originally been destined for a reveal at Gamescom 2013. Its unveiling there was pulled, and its appearance delayed into 2014 - a moment that now sounds on the horizon. When quizzed about the device last year, Sony Worldwide Studios boss Shuhei Yoshida simply said: "We don't talk about that."

  17. E3 Announce trailer: E3 Gameplay demo: E3 LiveCast: This formed a fairly big chunk of the Sony conference and it looked pretty cool to me. According to the developers in the LiveCast, and going by what was shown in the gameplay video, it's a post-apocalyptic open-world adventure game set in the Pacific Northwest where you play a biker-turned-bounty hunter, riding across the gorgeous environment while trying to avoid huge hordes of former human beings that the developers emphatically say aren't zombies but are in fact called 'Freakers'. My first thoughts on watching the video was that it was a Last of Us spin off, which got me very excited. It turns out it's not, but in as much as it does look very derivative of other games and franchises, I think the horde-chasing-you mechanic and the non-linear design should make for some interesting gameplay. Even just watching the demo I found myself urging the player character to get away, so it all seems suitably intense. On the downside, the developers are definitely not Naughty Dog, the last thing they made being the Uncharted game for the Vita, which was pretty sub-par from what I can remember, and the Syphon Filter games before that, which I haven't played but, from what I can recall, were reasonably well reviewed. There's no release date yet from what I can see, but apparently they've been making it for three years, and the demo, if it is actual gameplay (which, admittedly, it did look like), looked pretty polished from where I was sitting, so maybe early 2017, or possibly even by the end of the year. I especially like what seemed to be happening in the gameplay video, where the player was strategically trying to kill the enemies in particular places so that their dead bodies formed an obstacle for the other enemies and slowed them down. That seems like a mechanic that has a lot of potential. The developers are also selling it as entirely open world, so just because the player in the demo ducked underneath the train car, for example, you don't have to go that way in the actual game, meaning that horde encounters can be played out in lots of different ways and you can get creative with the way that you use the environment to your advantage. Your bike will also play a big role as there are very few working vehicles in the environment, meaning that it's more like your 'noble steed' than a bike. What are your thoughts?

  20. I'm surprised there's no topic for this yet but here we are, the remake of Seiken Densetsu 3, aka Secret of Mana 2 aka Trials of Mana is coming out in April and there's a demo available now, for Switch at the least. I've played it for a while and it seems like a very faithful remake of the original SNES game, if a little low-budget compared to something like Dragon Quest XI, keeping the colourful charm and lovely music of the old game and tarting it up for modern tech. The battle system has had a bit of an overhaul too, feeling much better than the clunky 16bit version, and it's worth keeping an eye out for the eventual release. Here's a long video of the Switch demo if you don't want to download it yourself.
