This is a real "knack" game isn't it as well as a test of speed and memory. It seems you can be pretty rough and ready at times (suturing) but at others not so (e.g drop forceps = death) It doesn't help when told to draw a circle when they really mean a "c" shape for magnification. I've hit the first real difficulty spike mentioned above but will give it a real go later.

After a lot of tries I finally completed OP 0.9 (Awakening - the one with the aneurisms you've all been talking about).

That was hard! This game is really really hard work and on this particular mission, you don't get to make many mistakes before game over.

Does it get harder than this further into the game? I need to know, because if it does I'm not sure I want to invest the time and work in order to progress. Then I'll take it back to EB and get something else.

Which is a bit sad as I do enjoy playing the game. But if it gets so hard and frustrating to make any progress later on, I might as well throw in the towel beforehand

.::: Well the odd thing is that despite it being hard I still play it. Not as intensively as before, but cracking it one op at a time.

It does get harder, but that depends on your definition on hard. The game simply demands perfection in execution with the more 'meaningful' tasks. Mandhandling a stitch-up isn't going to have nearly as much impact as aiming at the wrong tissue with a laser. It's stressing yes, but I don't mind, you're 'playing' with the lives of people here.

If you can't handle that tension I'd return the game. The 'spiked triangles' will be the death of you otherwise.

Got this with my lite yesterday and I can't really see what the fuss about diffculty is. I'm up to 4.4 already.

That isn't to say it's easy, I had to repeat stages a lot, and I've got mainly C rankings which need improving on a lot - but it just seems like a normal difficulty curve really - and I usually struggle at most games.

Maybe it's because I'm not approaching the game with any set notions of what to expect from the stylus seeing as it's my first DS game.

Brilliant game by the way.

That's actually excactly how I feel about it too and the main reason I keep playing it.

It really feels like you accomplish something when completing an OP and I do like that.

I feel physically exhausted when I've completed some of the levels. Not many games can do that to me so that must be a good thing.

It also helps that you finish each op in the same way.

Applying the fluid, then rolling the bandage. Ah, rolling the bandage - that's so destressing.

By the time you start zooming back out you know all the hard work is done - and it's a nice time to relax with the familiarity of the process.

I kind of gave up at one particular operation because it was annoying the hell out of me. It's the stage with the Tetarti types: I could never figure out what it meant when it told you about preventing more from spreading, so after ten games or so watching new memranes spawn whenever I removed one I just gave up.

I lucked out during the original Tetarti op, but then a later operation requires you to cure three patients in a row. I'll do it again - someday.

I just discovered something very useful and I don't know if you already know this, but

in order to buy yourself some more time during an operation, you can leave one wound open and then use plasma on it to get your vitals up again, and THEN close the last wound. The plasma is the green substance in a bottle and you just inject it into a wound and then you can restore your vitals that way. I was playing the first GUILT mission and kept running out of vitals / time when the little bastards appeared. Glanced at a FAQ to see if I was doing it completely wrong and it mentioned the thing about the green plasma.

I haven't read the manual so I don't know if it says the same thing there, but this has really made me enjoy the game a lot more now.

.::: I thought that was common knowledge. I also use it when replaying a certain OP wherein something 'goes wrong' after you completed the first section. Always inject them straight to heaven before closing up.

I really ned to get back to this, it's the most tense DS game I've played by a fair whack. I loved that operation on the girl that keeps flatlining, that was properly involving and I really felt I was fighting to get through it and keep the poor lass alive.

I've gotten upto the second strain of Guilt parasites now, getting a little tricky - one thing I found, is that one your first run you never know when its safe to use the Healing Touch, as things could get complicated later in the operation. Bit annoying when you use it in a pinch, then find the next 'complication' impossible to survive without using it ;)

It is easy enough to forget about his because you dont need to use if for the first few ops. Then there is one where the vital signs go down more quickly and you figure you must be missing something because it seems impossible to complete the op.

I'm getting pissed at those missions where you have to cut/inject/suture stuff at the upper side of the touch screen. It just doesn't seem to react to my stylus. Of course, playing it during a bouncy train ride isn't ideal. But still...

Well I did the last 'boss' operation yesterday and there's still more so you certainly get your money's worth. It's a great game.

Though I've said a few rude words when my patients have died suddenly.

Yes that's definately what you have to do when parts of the op are at the edge of the screen. Zoom out and re-centre the bit you want.

Ooh I'm shaking my fist at it (and sudden death) this afternoon.... but lovin' it.

I'm way too involved ^_^

Yes, most doctors cut flesh on the 8:52 to Kings Cross...^_^

.::: Hehe. the game really needs secure movements. <_< Supposedly it's better to play this with two styli letting you move all over more speedy (although it requires practice).

I still love it (despite not being able to uppen my rank properly).

Well my stylus (vemsie's old one as it happens to be) is pretty good, im finding I dont need to be so careful with the suturing, I can do go like the clappers all over the place and it seems to be fine <_<

ffs I had gone to bed, but couldnt resist playing, Im gonna be so knackered tomorrow

.::: That's the bit that nails my ranks I think. Do it cautiously and it'll give a random grade for it. Do it wildy and it's almost always 'cool'. It's hard to actually count upon.

I cant get any higher than C ranking, but Im not bothered at least Im saving the patients. That one with the RTA tho where you had to massage the heart..hells bells I was freaking out all over the place, im sat up in bed giving it FOOOOKING HELLLL, god knows what the neighbours must have thought haha

.::: It's brilliant how the game makes each loss so... intense.

I guess that's why people still regard it as too hard. It's very personal and doesn't feel like a game. Actually, whenever I get the continue screen, that's when I realise I'm playing a game.

I think your3 right, it is very intense and very absorbing. I hate getting low on vitals and I start getting all over excited when my patioent is dying, and im so relieved when they pull through..I think maybe Im getting far too absorbed..

If the Wii one's even marginally less frustrating then it's an absolute must-have. I think the DS one JUST crosses the line too many times.

I'd recommend it to anyone to at least play, and I'm not sure there's ever been a more intense handheld game than this, but I couldn't guarantee enjoyment.
