I think there is going to be an actual shortage, rather than everywhere finding they still have 50% of the stock sitting in the shop at the end of the first day because everyone's pre-ordered in five locations, but you're probably right that it seems worse than it is and that the inevitable headlines like "20,000 pre-orders unfulfilled!" will equate to only 5,000 people crying into their cornflakes.

This is a mass produced item and we can't get them due to greedy people.

Like any console we have all paid over the odds in the past. But I just hate the fact that people are being denied the chance.

It's exactly the same thing. Supply<Demand, which affects the price people are willing to pay for it.

You're manipulating anticipated supply and demand levels - exactly as those who are looking to buy a 360 in order to resell it for a profit are.

There is no fundamental difference. And there is nothing wrong with it.

that's the most rubbish comparison i've come across twohe. a fair comparison would be someone buying up all Dave's work to sell for a higher price.

i like many others played the game and lost wit the 360. i pre-ordered back in Aug but was informed this week i won't be getting one for launch day.

to me people attempting to pre-order even just one more than they need is sheer greed and they can fuck right off. i hope they choke.

I don't have any sympathy for people who pre-ordered back in August and aren't getting one - especially not from this forum.

I told everyone weeks back that if you went down to Woolies you'd have one guaranteed. At the time, Game couldn't categorically guarantee me one for launch, so I ordered from Woolies as well, just in case.

I'd rather have that original Vader one, but I'm prepared to take a punt that that went for a little more than any ebay profit from a 360.

(I've also made it abundantly clear earlier in this thread what I'll be doing with my spare 360 - assuming I have a spare of course.)

good for you. i used the same retailer i've used for years and they've never let me down until now. i didn't believe i had reason to go elsewhere.

Even though many places guaranteed them? Woolies are one of my pre-order places (have been since the first link was up), but even they aren't guaranteed if the experiences of other 'guaranteed' places are anything to go by.

Woolies are different.

As I said at the time, all orders are being dealt with centrally, rather than at store level (this is a crucial difference), and they'd had their allocation confirmed before taking pre-orders.

i was guaranteed one by the same retailer i've got all my other consoles and games at launch from, but it went tits up. i had no reason to believe they wouldn't come through, and it's yet to be seen whether Woolworths will. put it this way, a few weeks back they had just as little idea of their initial allocation as any other retailer. they all found out in the last week.

It's a games console. Get a sense of perspective.

And isn't someone just a few posts back saying that they're still available to pre-order from Argos?

Fuck me. Looking at some of the other threads on here, it wouldn't surprise me if the 360 was the console to bring the whole forum down. Everyone (well, some people in particular) is so angry and confrontational about anything regarding it. It's scary.

When the person who runs this place comes out with personal shit like that, after I've done what I can to try to convince people what they need to do in get a 360 at launch, then I'll bring up what the bloody hell I like.
