November Cd Mix Club

I'll have a listen to the 2 restrospective CDs later.  I'm probably going to check out Modest Mouse too.  Pretty nice CD overall, maybe a bit too familiar, but some stuff I hadn't heard for a while, so it

was nice.

I'm glad you liked it, its the same CD that I sent out last month that I didn't get any feedback for. Here's the tracklisting:

01. The Go! Team - Junior Kickstart

Strangely I get the same thing with The Go! Team, I recently heard one of their songs being used on TV and it must have taken me about half a minute before I recognised who it was.

02. Death From Above 1979 - Blood On Our Hands

This band was a forum recommendation and to begin with I found them a bit meh, but every time I put my mp3 player on random one of their songs would come on so I took it as a sign to give it another chance and the albums really grown on me recently.

03. Sly And The Family Stone - Luv N' Haight

Great song from a great album

O/\O

04. Gemma Hayes - Something In My Way

This is from her new album, I really liked her first album as well but was initially disappointed with her new one. Its definitely more mainstream sounding, with much less of a Alt-Country/Shoegazer feel to it, which is what I liked about the first album. The more I've been listening to it though the more its grown on me and Its hardly left my CD player in the past 2 weeks.

05. Fleetwood Mac - Oh Well Part 1

06. Modest Mouse - Bury Me With It

Your drummer has good taste, Modest Mouse are my favourite band at the moment. There's a couple more Modest Mouse songs on the retrospective CD's (April and August).

07. Ry Cooder - Vigilante Man

08. Shostakovich - Violin Concerto No 1, 3rd Movement

I went to about ten of the Proms this year and each night there would be pieces by 2 or 3 different composers and usually the first would be a fairly modern piece by someone I'd never heard of and on the whole they were terrible, so I wasn't expecting much from this but found my self mesmorised by its beauty. All of his violin concertos are just as good although his symphony's can be a bit hit and miss.

09. Gillian Welsh - Red Clay Halo

I love the old school country feel of this one.

10. Kanye West - Touch The Sky

You can't really go wrong using Move On Up as a sample.

11. Hem - Stupid Mouth Shut

It was the singers voice that first drew me to this band, the album this song is from (Rabbit Songs) is full of really beautiful folk/country songs.

12. The Flaming Lips - The Train Runs Over The Camel But Is Derailed By The Gnat

Yeah I combined it my self, it was the only way I was going to be able to hear all of it together. Most of them didn't turn out too great and this was the best one, I agree they should release a stereo version.

13. Black Rebel Motorcycle Club - Still Suspicion Holds You Tight

14. The Workhouse - Ricketts

There is another one of their songs on the retrospective, they're a really good little known oxford post rock band.

15. Sigur Ros - Ti Ki

Another band I put a lot on my mix Cd's so there is a few more of their songs on the retrospective, well worth checking out if you like what you hear.

The 2 retrospective CD's are mp3's of my last 12 months of mix clubs, I was going to go the whole hog and include all the feedback I recieved for them as well but didn't have the time. There's a few duplicated songs because I tend to overuse my favourite songs or if I didn't get any feedback for a month I usually send the same CD out the next month.

14. Señor Coconut & Su Conjunto - The Robots

15. Grant Green - High Heeled Sneakers

16. Hans Zimmer - You're So Cool

I've just remembered that all of these tracks were bought off iTunes - so if I zip 'em up and post them they'll be DRM'ed up the wazoo, won't they? :)

Don't know if deepblue had a chance to listen to mine yet but I'll post the tracklisting up anyway:

Public Enemy - How To Kill A Radio Consultant (Live)
Music Man - Pleasure Web
Loop Aznavour - Let Us In
Human Race - Grey Boy
The Nu People - I'd Be Nowhere Without You
Jimmy Smith - 8 Counts For Rita
Thunder & Lightening - Bumpin' Bus Stop
James Brown - Funky President
The New Breed - PM Or Later (Instrumental)
Simtex & Wylie - Bootleggin'
Billy Cobham - A Funky Kind Of Thing
Kay Gardner - Touching Souls
Fried Chicken - Funky DJ
The Centurians - Bullwinkle Part II
The Tornadoes - Bustin' Surfboards
Ricky Nelson - Lonesome Town

There wasnt' really a full-on theme here; I just wanted to compile a load of funky-ass tracks that kind of worked well together. I got a bit Tarantino towards the end though. Hope it was enjoyed.

Wow. Now that's how to do Christmas music. Such a beautiful selection of tunage, soft and elegant voices/singing to most of the tracks. I liked track #5 best. I feel I should probably know #14 but don't and track #16 rounds the CD off nicely. I'm going to put this on full-blast Xmas day, I reckon. It's nice enough to not be intrusive but also nice enough to fill that silence just once in a while.

Ta man, I like.

Cool, glad you're enjoying it... I wasn't sure you would! Do you want the tracklisting now or are you happy to ponder it further for a bit?

1. Gwen Stefani - Cool (Richard X Mix)

That's a good track too. Wasn't sure if it was crazy lady or not (she's b-a-n-a-n-a-s). Good mix though.

It's all good though. I would have slated it if there was any 'rawk' music though, I was kind of fed up getting those the last few times I took part.

Heh, good stuff... I'm glad you liked it, I was a little concerned given your comments on Christmas music

Sorry it took so long though, I just thought it would be better to get it in December...

EDIT: And the Richard X mix of Gwen samples Heaven17's Let Me Go, which is great!
