Xbox 360 Live Marketplace

I just don't see how the hard drive is anywhere near big enough. Most 360 games are dual layer DVD's. That's 2 games on the HDD if you are lucky.

I can't imagine the 360 having a 20GB hard drive all of it's life.

Oh I don't know - I mean there is no official way of transferring downloadable content, demos, certain save games, anything at all from the hard drive at the moment. If they want to release bigger hard drives at some point, surely that needs addressing as well? And I don't see Microsoft ever making something like that possible. Aren't they shit scared that somehow they might leave the system vulnerable if they do?

Or would they expect you to either switch hard drives - or junk what you have and start again? Hmmm..

They should have gone the Sony route and allowed any size hdd to be fitted once the machine is yours.

Galaga is a pretty good port IMO. Though it has a HUGE annoyance...

So, it expects you to press start to start the coin-op. But press Start at ANY OTHER TIME and it brings up the bloody 360 pause menu. Not good, it's all about quickly startiong again surely, why wasn't this picked up for flip sake.

Gggrrr.

Oh, and being 3rd out of 3 on my firends list sucks... Add me if you're shit!!

Stebb0

It is indeed quite good. A blast from the Galaxy-on-C64 past.

Another gripe though - it doesn't move your friends alerts. Sure, you could just turn them off, but you don't always think to until they appear - just as you attempt to weave your way through a hail of retro bullets.

I'd imagine they'll tie that in with Live Anywhere. You could transfer your saves to their server or your Vista machine before you swap drives.

You wouldn't need to back Marketplace content up as it's all tied to your gamertag and you could just download it from Marketplace again.

I doubt they'll do anything more fancy than recommend the use of an MU if a bigger HDD is ever released.

As long as you can have a copy of your profile on each HDD so that you can swap between them without having to transfer your profile again, I'll be happy.

I've heard that the biggest Xbox game was about 2.5gb but Microsoft required every single game to be an exact size. Not sure why they did that or if the story is totally correct though, I just heard it from a guy that used to deal with pressing Xbox game disks.

Going by that you'd get around 8-10 games on the standard 360 HDD, not too bad really.

MGS 2 was a lot bigger than that, around 6 gigs. Best way to find out sizes is through the iso community.

Wasn't MGS2 on two disks though?

If they had a condition that all disks must be 3gb or similar then that would explain the 6 gigs. I find the rule hard to believe myself, but I don't know why he would have lied when telling me that.

It was one disc, it came on two if you downloaded it. The hackers split it into two discs, main game and VR missions due to the size. The 2.5/3gig rule would be stupid as games come in all shapes and sizes. Crazy Taxi for example is only about 200megs, whilst other 'racing' games are a lot larger.

Ping Pong demo on the marketplace.

This came on just in time for me as I had a few games to trade.

I downloaded the demo, played it and was immediately underwhelmed. The biggest gripe I had was the sluggishness of the player moving along the table. So, I carried on to get the hang of the controls a bit more and the rallies gradually got a bit longer. Long enough for some tension-adding music to fade in and for my nerve to be severely tested as it did so. This was the clincher. I immediately went and got the full game <_<

I still find the players a bit on the sluggish side, but perhaps I'm charging too early before I'm in position.

More practice needed but this is loads of fun. Definitely a grower :D

You don't need to back anything up at all or use a memory card. All you need to do is recover your gamertag on the new hard drive and it'll bring everything with it, takes a short while. Well ok I didn't check saves but I was shocked to see it remembered all my GR:AW option settings and even what my character looks like and what weapons I like to use.

Anyone tried using a save?

See, I think the save games is a sticking point. Look at all those broken machines when it was launched, and Microsoft didn't a flying fuck about helping anyone back up save games. They don't care - and I wouldn't want to lose all my saves, nor buy x amount of memorycards to back them all up if a bigger hard drive arrives.

I think he was confusing the xbox with the gamecube where the games could be less than 1.4gb but thats how much space they all take up on disc.

Microsoft don't give a flying fuck about that because they are the ones spending money to get your machine back to them and a replacement shipped out.

They will give a flying fuck if they think they can can get another £70 out of you.

I wouldn't expect too much of that.

The game bombed horribly, so the publisher released the extras at an inflated price to try to make a bit of money back.

Of course people didn't buy it, so now they are releasing it for free to get some more free publicity.

Unless every game on the 360 tanks, I wouldn't expect to see this situation happen very often.

So Halo 2 tanked?

I'd expect this to happen more on the bigger titles to be honest, loads of free publicity and good press for the 360, its games and the Live service.

Only if you didn't pay for it. I guess it would be okay if they tell you in advance as per the Halo 2 maps.

Damn right I didn't. And I'm refusing to give Ubisoft 1200 points for the GRAW map pack too. Gits. I just wonder how many other people have resisted.
