Thanks for all the recommendations of The Back Page podcast, it's terrific. Probably the first video game podcast I've looked forward to since Chet & Jon stopped. Pretty sure most people on here would enjoy it, give it a try if you haven't.

I enjoyed the TCGS GOTY show a lot, all four hours and 38 minutes of it :huh:

Very happy with their game of the year choice, especially as it matches mine, but I got the impression it was always going to be that game from when they first started talking about it. Gentlemen of taste, evidently.

 

And it's always entertaining to listen to James getting completely trollied :lol:

Absolutely adored the TCGS GOTY show, it was totally worth the wait.   As a few others have said, there wasn't as much "drama" in this year's episode and I think the eventual winner was probably always going to win if you'd heard how they spoke about that game earlier in the year, but the thing which sets TCGS apart from other gaming podcasts has always been the genuine love of video games that the guys have.  It never feels jaded, it never feels like it's a chore (even you James!) or a job. It's a passion project and I don't think you can fake that easily.  Superb episode from a wonderful podcast.

I’m someone who’d give Nintendo £60 for Galaxy 2 even if it was a bare bones port only available on a wet Wednesday in March. But you give Sammy all the meat and potatoes games for free and when he got Ghost Squad I was Team Sammy all the way.  And then Matthew turned down Resident Ewiil for a Wii Ware game about a puddle. Enjoyable wife shenanigans too.

Agreed - Matthew botched it. They got too hung up on 'better versions elsewhere' viewpoint which I don't think I'd ever consider.

 

I tried to think if I could put together an alternative Wii Mini to sit alongside Sam's instead of Matthew's and I reckon I'd take this one (although I would definitely miss Sin and Punishment 2:)

He did a better job of pimping Jagermeister than he did Blue Yeti.

Next year, get a James a beverage sponsor and Sean a snack sponsor for the GOTY show.

I kind of understand Matt's logic of not going for games you can buy better versions of on current consoles, but Sam getting

was the real kicker. Last Story sounded interesting, too, and wasn't one I ever played.

Ghost Squad was the knock-out blow. After that it was entering “stop it he’s already dead” territory.

 

Although props for the Metroid: Other M pick. Oh fuck and Sin and Punishment 2…Okay, maybe Matt got some good body blows in, but Sam was clever to realise Matt is pretty much his own worst enemy with these things.

Caught up with Back Page's Wii draft, how did Matthew fuck that so badly haha?

 

Personally, I think you definitely need a couple of heart picks for these things, but also you can overthink the "oh but there is a better version of this iconic game on a more recent system, so I will leave it out" cos I just don't think punters assess these consoles in that way.

It was all mags. The PlayStation ones fucking hated 2D games too.  
 

In fact I bet loads of people on this forum agreed with them. Look at some of the reactions sub-60fps games get on here for instance.
