500k...FIVE HUNDRED K

On Twist I can get a system to get plenty of 4 gem matches, struggling to work out a sure fire way to get 5

I've got the 500k achievement. I got 502,900 and was 144th on the leaderboard earlier. It was an utter fluke and I got burning speed twice. The last hurrah was epic and bagged me over 150,000 points. I've not got close since though and my best after that was around 400k. It's a bit of an unfair achievement.

I just have the score 200k back to back in twist and classic and also reach level 50 - I'm level 30 on classic so that shouldn't be a problem to get. The back to back 200k though is a headfuck as my weakest game is twist and you get into the rhythm of twist after ten minutes, get the 200k required and have to go to classic where your brain is still in the land of twist  I was 1,900 points off doing it this morning and I almost cried when the last hurrah bagged me a total of sweet FA.

For some reason, whenever I join a party in quick play, I get a load of French people in my party all laughing in French  so far, there have been no Americans. Is Popcap non-existant in the states?

For twist, I employ the making L shapes and exploding them quick tactic and also rely upon luck for chains and multipliers. It's a really unfair game though but so addictive.

Like he said, it looks great ;)

Sure but I would rather an enhanced port of Sega Rally 1 or 2, as good as Revo was it still wasnt as good as the previous 2 games, not only that but you can pick up Sega Rally Revo for about a fiver now which will be cheaper than the cut down version on XBLA

I lost a metric shit-ton of XP in Bejewelled last night - turns out if your friends list is full there's a bug whereby it resets your XP and won't add any more (seems to only affect classic mode).

One to watch !

Lost hours to it last night.

I noticed that, so I need to remove a friend to get XP on Classic... Oh dear.

Torchlight the same week as DA2? I know they're not the same but I only have time for one Fantasy RPG at a time and I'm afraid it goes to Dragon Age. If this had been released a month ago I would have bought it day 1.

You could very very easily play both. Who gives a monkey's about the plot in Torchlight, you smash shit in the face repeatedly and loot the fuck out of it. It doesn't come more insta-arcade action than that.

I wouldn't have cared except they tried to put a plot in there and then just ignored it after a while, which was irritiating.

Live Arcade update #3

Fall Frontier Announced

http://www.gametrailers.com/video/debut-trailer-fallen-frontier/711383

Moonshot Games invites you to experience Fallen Frontier, a 2D sidescrolling shooter offering fast-paced tactical combat, vast interconnected worlds, and an original hard sci-fi universe. Using firearms, grenades, and various special abilities, you’ll confront, confound, and conquer your enemies. Fallen Frontier features both single player and co-operative play and leverages the very best design principles learned in our years at Bungie.

Our story follows a jaded lawman from Earth, arriving at the frontier worlds of Alpha Centauri on a mission of vengeance. Events unfold as an engaging film noir style mystery, and the hero quickly comes to realize that in this brave new world, nothing is quite as it seems.

We’re thrilled to finally show you what we’ve been working on for the last year. Come say hi and play the game at PAX East in Boston, March 11-13. We’ll be in booth 759, between the guys from Haunted Temple Studios and Robot Entertainment. Whether attending or not, check out our announcement trailer above and let us know what you think!

Found this post on metro.co.uk

"I don't fully understand it myself but from what I've read on various sites the Xbox 360 only seems to store so many game updates (not downloadable content) in the cache. I've read anywhere between five and 20 updates. When it's full it will then begin to delete the older updates and use the space for newer ones. You can clear the cache yourself if you're having problems. I guess that one day some games will become unplayable as surely Microsoft will shut down the service for the Xbox 360 and we'll no longer be able to update."

Full website is here

Is there any truth to this?

Pretty sure MS have changed the way the 360 stores updates. Updates are now are stored in the game 'folder' instead of being held in the consoles cache, but I might be wrong.

In any case, I doubt MS won't allow folk to download patches in future. Playing 360 games online might eventually be taken offline (similar to how the old Xbox Live was taken down) but downloadable patches for 360 games will (hopefully) be here for a very long time to come.

IIRC it's only patches/title updates over a certain size (5MB I think) that are permanantly stored. Given that the vast majority are less than 5MB, most won't be permanently saved.

According to info from the shmups forums, the number of title updates stored in the cache is determined by data size, not number of updates. If you only have a Memory Unit (for example) you get a 12mb cache and 32mb if running from HDD.

As far as I know the patch pool was enlarged during one of the dash updates to account for larger hard drives. Now some updates are put into the game save file for Example Rockband 3 does this.

When you hit the limit the oldest patch files will be deleted sequentially. I lost by backwards compatibility update recently and had to re-download.

All games in the future will remain playable because even if the XBL service is stopped the game won't have any way of knowing there was an update. Refusing to update a game just means you wont be able to play online. The only issue is with some game saves they know there should be a patch so if it's been deleted you'll have to loose the save to play.

Mini update...

Sonic Adventure is available for 400msp (gold exclusive)

And this technically isn't Live Arcade news, but Moon Diver has been dated for March 29th on the US PSN Store, so we might be seeing it on Live Arcade towards the end of the month or it might be an exclusive part of Sony's Spring Fever promotion. (we'll know more soon)
