That's way bad. How often was Oblivion crashing for you before this happened? Mine seems to be becoming increasingly unstable and i'm not sure whether this is marking some kind of slowly manifesting hardware failure. Had zero crashes elsewhere though...

Not sure, a lot more then it should!!! I ended up having to save far to muhc because of fear of crashing. I would expect it too crash at least once during a 2-3 session maybe...maybe not quite that bad but I thought it was too much a tthe time and more then other people with the game had experienced. All other games work fine though

more good news

Seems like BC is ending (did it ever begin?).

I like the way Moore is now telling everyone "Nobody is concerned anymore about backwards compatibility..."

"We under promised and over delivered on that." bullshit, BC has been a token gesture to sucker in a few more early adopters and now it's all over with so many classics still not supported.

what a joke :P

Well if they do indeed ever introduce a bigger hard drive, they better fucking well give me a way to transfer stuff across. And it would be lovely to be able to install games onto the hard drive while they are at it.

Cant be bothered to read the full 20 odd pages, but has anyone sent off the xbox 360's and got replacements before? because my launch 360 is now artifacting like mad tonnes of white and red dots scrolling down the screen.

was it painless procedure? what was turn around times?

also if asked to send off your hdd did you?

I sent off mine when I first got it, but only because the stores had none, when that one when I took it back to where I bought it (Virgin) and got them to change it (although the one they changed it for didn't work  ). If you send it off to Microsoft it takes about a week for the whole process but you will get a repaired machine and it will be from the same manufactured time period as the one you sent off.

And you don’t have to send off your hard drive, even if they ask for it leave it out and they will still deal with it, unless they think it might be that causing the problem then they'll just request it from you.

Don't know but I cant see why it would affect your rights, they are only required to repair or replace though so they may just go through Microsoft themselves, a high street store normally just replaces because its less hassle.

I just sent mine off for the 2nd time.

Itried getting an exchange at the shop, but they said that after a month, the contract is with MS, and they have to deal with it. Could've been bollocks, but meh, I'm tired of the whole affair.

So back it goes. This time MS say I'm down for a new replacement. We shall see. >.>

  • 2 weeks later...

Mine locked up twice last night, both times whilst playing Burnout Revenge just as an online game was ending. What's even more annoying as both times my scores didn't register and I had whupped some fairly high ranking players. Now my game ranking has plummeted.

Just got my third one back well this one is a repair job this time. The dvd drive was well noisey sometime refused to load games and on more than a few occasions crashed. So i get it back new drive in it as i can see looks like a different machine as well, anyway i unpack and to my despair no psu. Give them a bell one on the way out to me, good job i have two other 360s or i wouldve been mega pissed off.

After sending it off for the second time, I got a new (the 3rd) console returned to me last friday.

This morning, it starts locking up again, when I start up.

What. The. Fuck?

One breaking is unlucky, two is really unfortunate, but three is taking the piss. I wonder if it's anything on your side?

Sounds like the shop was just trying to fob you off. My 360 was six months old, but Game swapped it for a brand new one, no questions asked.

From Microsoft's point of view, if the retailer where you purchased the console is happy to exchange it, then they don't have a problem with that. My suggestion would be to call MS, get them to log the fault and give you a reference number, then try get your retailer to play ball.

My mate & I picked up two US machines at launch. Both machines worked fine until last week when we picked up PAL copies of Table Tennis. Installed the mandatory update and my mate’s 360 was dead within 3 hours and mine went the same way the following day!

MS support offered to fix them but would only guarantee the repairs for 3 months. The cost of repairing them wasn’t far off the price of a new UK core machine and that comes with a 12 month guarantee.

Not sure what to do now – pick up a UK core or hold off till they improve the reliability. ;)

Scared me as well - but i caved and got one last week and it's fine so far!

To be honest everyone i know who has one in real life has had no problem. A few are are launch machines - the other 8 or so are not and they all seem ok. It's a scary thread for sure - but not all are struck down and you do get a year guarantee.

US machines come with a 90 day warranty- MS Support confirmed this. Not sure about a jap machine to be honest.

I downloaded the Astropop demo today but couldn't play it because it is PAL60 only. Thing is, my 360 is set to PAL60 (according to the video settings), but the option to change between PAL60 and PAL isn't there anymore! :)

Not only that, but I've never changed it to PAL60 (I had it on PAL since I got it because of the jerky DVD playback issue with PAL60). Oblivion runs fine, so it's definitely set to PAL60. What is going on, is this something to do with the last update? Has anyone else had this problem?

Browsers are getting pretty clever these days...

(from Opera)

Image input equipment: Sony Ericsson

Image input equipment model: W800i

File change date and time: 2006:06:16 17:44:03

Software: Adobe Photoshop Elements 2.0

Whoah, that's pretty impressive. That was taken last week at HMV in Sheffield city centre by the way. I've always thought the consoles must get hot in those little bubble things.

Don't want to state the obvious if you've already tried it, but if you're running your 360 in HD then you have to switch it to SD in order to change the PAL60 setting there as well.

I couldn't get the Hitman demo to work even though my dash was telling me I was running in PAL 60. I had to reboot the machine in SD, change to PAL60 there and then reboot in 720p. Then it worked.

If it ain't that then the I don't know what the problem is.

I have had a broken hedset and four cracked game discs...Thankfully no red lights though. Shoddynessss

MS replaced my headset but I had to blag the CD's by taking them into the Virgin Megastore, I even told them my US copy of DOA4 was fromm there, luckily the staff didnt see the fat NTSC lable on the front.
