Don't want to state the obvious if you've already tried it, but if you're running your 360 in HD then you have to switch it to SD in order to change the PAL60 setting there as well.

I couldn't get the Hitman demo to work even though my dash was telling me I was running in PAL 60. I had to reboot the machine in SD, change to PAL60 there and then reboot in 720p. Then it worked.

If it ain't that then the I don't know what the problem is.

Thanks for replying, I already got this answer from the XBOX forums. Works fine now. :)

My second machine has now died, 3 months after replacement. The drive started scratching and grinding like mad, tried to eat some of my discs etc. Now it just wont recognise any discs but the rest of the machine is fine. I'd like to take it back to the shop, but it was bought at a Gamestation i used to work at 6 months ago. I know they will think im taking the piss and wont do it.

I dont fancy going through the MS returns mill again for another bloody refurb. Im disgusted, pretty angry, and NO ONE is getting my hard drive the number of games iv done recently (4000 pts in the last month).

Anyone got the MS number handy to save me trawling the thread?

Posting that picture of a Game-based screwed 360 was obviously bad luck - just gone to turn mine on and have the red flashing lights.

Mine's a second hand machine, but should I still deal with Microsoft directly or go through Cex where I bought it...? I think i've got a 12 month warranty with them, but they might just give me some scabby traded one... Hmmm, and I leave town in about 5 days. Not the best time for this to happen.

EDIT: 4 lights. Lead wasn't plugged in properly. Me idiot.

My 360, yeah it's a bit fucked up the bum.

"Play DVD", it tells me as I insert NBA 2K6.

"This disc is dirty", it tells me after 10 minutes on Dynasty Warriors 5.

"Please insert a disc into your Xbox 360 Console", as it's begins to read Call of Duty 2, and then decides it just can't be arsed.

Bollocks. There is NO way I'm giving up my HDD. Though that doesn't seem to be the problem, seeing as it won't play discs with or without it.

Hmph. I've emailed GAME to ask them if they'll let me keep my HDD if I swap it through them.

Mine appears to be screwed again, after it not crashing once in 6 months it's froze up about 10 times today and now won't get past the initial launch screen.

If I take it into Gamestation for a replacement, will they let me keep my original Hard Drive? I'm assuming not...

im on my 5th as i may have mentioned, 3 swaps at gamestation, 1 form microsoft (never again)

gamestation wont make u give up your hard drive if you politely explain that you have bought games from live arcade and theyre on the hard drive, therefore could you keep your old one and give in the new one.

its not strictly true, but they wont know that.

oh and gamestation run a 1 yr guarantee on new hardware but they just dont advertise it. the managers will be aware, they just hope u arent.

As a cheeky twist on th usual console woes, one of my wireless joypads appears to be broken.

Sometimes when I put it down on the table, as it hits the surface the light would go out, I thought it was jolting the batteries but it happened tonight, and I haven't been able to turn it back on since ;)

Even though mine is set to boot to the dashboard, a few times now when I've switched it on, it freezes at the first green Xbox 360 screen and has to be reset.

Not have the cable hanging down at the front of the console, I tried plugging my iPod into the rear USB port. When plugged in there, the 360 struggled to detect my wireless joypad. When I finally got them to sync, even though the iPod was charging, so was getting power from the 360, it wouldn't detect it as an attached device.

Is the rear USB port for joypads only? If so, that's a bit fucking stupid.

PGR3 crashes a lot anyway when you're using the guide button, but the dirty disc errors are a bad sign I'm afraid.

Getting a surprising number of lock ups in PGR3, but thats a software thing apparently.

My current 360 has been fine, except for a few Disc errors, and an odd one where I put COD2 in and a screen came up saying I should put the disc in a 360. Weird.

Been getting disc read errors in Oblivion on a fairly regular basis. A lot of the time the fan (or is it the drive? Whichever, it sounds like a plane taking off...) will power down and then 5 minutes later the sound cuts out and the game crashes with a disc read error a couple of seconds after this. I figured this was down to the game (didn't Morrowind do the same on X-box?).

No problems reading DVDs, Ridge Racer 6 or Halo 1+2 though (not exactly pushing the machine or streaming much of the drive with those though...).

Have you tried firing up the console with the game in and holding down A until the Bethesda logo appears? This clears the caches which may help.

My dead 360 was collected by UPS on Tuesday. I received an email saying it had been received yesterday at 3pm and another one saying it has been shipped back to me at 8pm :)

Now that seems far too quick to me in order to fix the console, does this mean I will get a brand new, or refurbished 360? They can't have repaired it in that time, could they? Whatever I get back it had better bloody well work.

Kind of had the same thing. Got the dreaded three red lights, so UPS picked it up Tuesday, and I got an e-mail Wednesday afternoon to say they've recieved it and another one in the evening to say it was on it's way back. I just figured they have so many of the bloody things they know exactly what to do to put it right.

In my mind they sort of reseamble the Ferarri pit team, whipping the casing off, replacing a bit and whacking it out the door.
