9. Oh Mandy  - The Spinto Band

Amazing isn't it! Something Westlife might produce if you cut off their balls and put them in 'Amazing indie pop' training camp for 3 years with only gruel for sustenance.  Only downside is nothing else on the album comes close.

10. Twin Cinema - The New Pornographers

Probably went under most peoples radars last year. More great indie pop from Canada. This time the album does live up to the promise.

Just found the New Pornographers album on emusic.com so am downloading it... They have The Spinto Band album too, do you think it not worth getting?

I haven't really given it much time but thats mainly because nothing on it grabbed me like Oh Mandy did. The rest of the songs arn't really sung in that great falsetto and seem more trad and less EPIC than Oh Mandy. 'Brown Boxes' and 'Japan Is An Island' are worth a listen.

O Holly, here is my review of your cd, i have done this without looking at the tracklist you posted so here goes :D

1. Cool, nice start, some riot grrrl kinda stuff, nice La la la la chorus bit, pretty cool :)

2. Another cool girly track, i reckon this could be a recurring theme of this cd :P... kinda sounds like Girls Aloud a bit or something but a bit more cooler  Very poppy track, catchy and fun :(

3. Electro-pop bassline, sultry female vox... quite a retro sounding track, would be cool in a club... Have no clue who any of these artists are yet though lol, but is enjoyable so far :)

4. Another poppy track, not as interesting or catchy as the others, a bit dull this one i am afraid :(

5. Nice funky bassline, cool beat, ethereal style vocals... nice relaxing track... i like this one :)

6. Didnt really like this track... The almost chanted vocals bored me, didnt like the bassline... :(

7. Cool track... funky, sophisticated!! liked it...

8. Are all these tracks by the same people? ;) All these female vox are getting confusing lol... this track is pretty cool but doesnt really stand out much... need a really good track again to get things going!!

9. Sure i have heard this track before!! its the whiny guitar riff that seems familiar, i kinda like this track, but its not the stand out track i was looking for :(

10. Really liked this track... nice guitar, uplifting vocals... probably my fave track so far :)

11. Bad hip hop style beat, didnt like this track...

12. Cool, surreal robotic tinged vocals and some cool lyrics made for a pretty good track, i did like this one

13. meh! kinda country influenced track, nothing great about this one

14.Heard this before, it was quite popular wasnt it? some pop songstress... or is it texas?!? hmmm, its not bad

15. Heard this too but this is much better, quite chilled, specially the chorus, its really nice :) lol these tracks are starting to get familiar now

16. Another nice laid back chilled track, i am liking this as well... these moments are perfect sunday morning chill out fodder :)

17. Bit boring this track... sorry!!

18. Bit of a mad last track!! pretty cool though, really interested to see who everyone was on that cd!!

Thanks Holly, i enjoyed this cd, not my usual listening fare but that is why i like mix cd club as it gives me a chance to listen to stuff i dont normally listen to :)

I've listened to S8N's CD now plenty of times and really enjoyed it, possibly the best I've received so far in terms of how much I liked.

Particular highlights were Track 10 which blasted out of the gates, slightly Foo Fighter-esque, great Zigzagging riff. The opener was good too, like the way it builds up out of the spoken intro. I especially dug the more acoustic and guitar based tracks, not really what I'd normally listen to but sounded great. I'm a bit rubbish at talking about music, especially stuff I don't know much about, but yeah, loads of good stuff.

There were only a handful I didn't really like, such as the Ringo Starr track (I think) which just sounded like a really dreadful Beatles. Tracks 11 and 12 didn't grab me either (although the singers had great voices).

I'm guessing from the CD title that there's some theme with story-based lyrics, which I got a little of on some of the tracks. It's a little lost on me though as apart from with hiphop, I tend to move the vocals down in the mix in my head. I just see the voice as another instrument rather than listening closely to the lyrics, which I probably shouldn't do but I find it really hard to listen any other way now.

Anyway, Tracklisting please!

Old skool!

Sent mine off this morning, though unfortunately it's not actually a tape.

It might be quite fun to produce some kind of really grainy late 80's old-school mixtape on a cassette though, spliced with random shoutouts and announcers. Kinda like some New York pirate hip-hop station thing.

Anyway, this month it's just a CD.

Anyway, Tracklisting please!

1. Bright Eyes - At The Bottom Of Everything

2. The Shins - Know Your Onion

3. Ringo Starr - I'm The Greatest

4. Ben Folds Five - Army (Live)

5. Billy Bragg - Everywhere

6. Elliot Smith - Needle In Hay

7. Willy Mason - Our Town

8. Pulp - Babies

9. The Postal Service - Clark Gable

10. Everclear - Heroin Girl

11. Cat Power - Names

12. Joni Mitchell - River

13. Tracy Chapman - Fast Car

14. Liz Phair - Divorce Song

15. The Beatles - A Day In The Life

16. Nick Cave - Stagger Lee

17. System Of A Down - The Metro

18. The Moldy Peaches - Downloading Porn With Devo

Overall, I was fairly happy with it - though the end is just 4 great songs in a row I really couldn't fit together with anything. Managed to make an album of story songs without resorting to Hip-Hop (too easy, though I was really tempted to put Slick Rick - Children's Story on there). The Ringo Starr track always really cracks me up (though it's a John Lennon song). Just the idea of someone so shit singing about how great he was.

Glad you liked. Your CD to whoever it was sounds like the best CD I never had too. Currently tasking myself with getting hold of the tracks on there I didn't recognise.

Got mine today. It's happy chart disco-pop. About the most challenging CD I could possibly receive but I shall persevere!

Mine went off today and its very pop popular and not very challenging to the listener.

I expect it to be a disaster (although its one of my best flowing cds yet).

Heh. Have fun anyway!

Received a CD today with D.H. on the front, so I assume this is from David Heath? I'll post feedback over the next couple of days.

Let me know as soon as you want a tracklist.

Unfortunately I re-used some of the songs from last months mix club, albeit in a different context, because I went on holiday this month and ran out of time. Sorry about that, but hopefully you'll find the CD flows quite well anyway.

I've had a listen, and although I wasn't keen on the style of the music on offer, I was impressed that it flowed so well. Most of the track didn't have that stand-out qualtiy for me, but I really enjoyed Track 9 on the CD.

I'd appreciate a track list, especially for that track, please. <_<

Kelthink, yours is in the post now. Tragically I haven't been able to find a single usable jiffy envelope at work today - even one I can rip the padding out of - so I've had to just whack the CD in an envelope. This hasn't backfired on me in the past, but if it does get demolished let me know. I didn't want to delay it any longer once I'd actually burned the thing...
