Tonymg - I'm really sorry but I'm out of time and I'm going to go on holiday without leaving proper feedback :P.

I liked your cds though and only recognised some of them. I preferred the non-classical one I think, maybe because it was more familiar. I'll take them on holiday and let you have some proper feedback when I get back :P.

Cheers.

Thats fine, its my fault for sending it out quite late this month. Do you want the tracklisting now or do you want to wait?

Nae worries chuck.

Mine's been in my work bag all week but I've not made it to the PO yet. Useless. Two first class stamps should wing it tonight I hope.

I've not listened to bpempires much this week as the girlfriend's pipes froze so I've not had a chance. AND she has the flu. Which I now probably have.

I know what you meant, but that bit made me :( properly.

So... posted it yet?

I tried not to be too 'Carry On' about that, was probably too subtle.

Yes. Posted. Two first class stamps before the week was out. It was only the CD, case and cover for it but I usually get it checked in the PO and it's usually about 40/45p!

scribble had an interesting looking cd this months so I organised a private swap, here are some comments for it - thanks for sending it.

01. 65DaysOfStatic - Drove Through Ghosts To Get Here [4:18]

Really liked this one. Nice build up and a great tune when it kicks in. Is their stuff similar or is this a one off? Reminded me of M83 and God is an Astronaught, if you know them?

02. Patrick Wolf - The Child Catcher [4:30]

A friend at uni was trying to pimp me with 'The Libertine'. I thought it was alright but I didn't really like his voice. This track was quite different but I still wasn't that keen to be honest. I liked the gameboy sounds in the background though, any details on the producers?

03. Jaga Jazzist - day [3:07]

This was quite nice, rolled smoothly along without really doing too much. Could quite easily have been lisfted out of a videogame me thinks.

04. Frog Pocket - Carac Cyls [8:29]

Glitchy, very glitchy. Didn't really do anything for me. Think it could have been good without the glitches, or at least less of them. Bit too long aswell.

05. Handsome Boy Modeling School - I've Been Thinking f. Cat Power [5:24]

This came out of nowhere after the first 4 tracks. Some smooth lounge beats. Not bad I guess.

06. Shitdisco - I know Kung-Fu [3:14]

I can't decide if I like this or not. It's not very good but it makes me smile ;)

07. Christ. - Dianoes Nouveau [5:04]

Some lush ambient electronica. Very warm sounding. Nice

08. Venetian Snares - Die Winnipeg Die Die Die Fuckers Die [7:01]

This battered my ears, in a good way. If you had described it to me in words I'd have hated it but in reality, it's great. Could do with being a couple of minutes shorter though. It kinda looses its impact after 4-5 minutes.

09. DJ Scotch Egg - Scotch Attack [2:04]

Meh, it was ok.....

10. Vitalic - Poney (Part 2) [5:12]

Real old industrial kick to start things off, NIN style. Thought it was pretty boring though.

11. Death In Vegas - Aisha [5:54]

Didn't like this one either, the only one I recognised from the cd.

12. Mr. Bungle - Desert Search for Techno Allah [5:24]

Weird, but not really very good.

7/10 Nice one!

Got it the other day and have given it a couple of listens - top stuff dude, I really enjoyed it. Nice and varied and very little I knew (and I like the first track btw!). Tracklistage please.

The nazi gopher freaked my girlfriend out properly, she's asking me what sort of people I'm mixing with on the internet

1. John Cena and the Trademarc - The Time is Now/Bennet(2:58)
2. Film School - Pitfalls (5:01)
3. Two Gallants - Long Summer Day (4:54)
4. Mogwai - Glasgow Mega-Snake (3:34)
5. Boris - Pink (4:20)
6. Death From Above 1979 - Little Girl (4:00)
7. MSTRKRFT - 2 More Years (Bloc Party Remix) (4:10)
8. Pretty Girls Make Graves - wildcat (3:12)
9. Wolfmother - Mind's Eye (4:53)
10. Dagha/Edan - Rock and Roll F/Dagha (3:15)
11. Secret Machines - Alone Jealous & Stoned (6:48)
12. "Let off some steam Bennet" (0:04)
13. Cat Power - The Greatest (3:22)

I actually am convinced I squeazed a Jens Lekman track at the end and burned it straight after- but it's not on my playlist. The tracklisting should be on IMDB.

Anywho. The CD developed into a very heavy sounding CD at the climax. And the first track came about because it's my ringtone and worked with the Commando quote a bit. I really think I should have mixed it better- the Edan track worked really well with it's sound in between the two Zepplinesque ones.

Glad you digged it. Sorry about the Nazi gopher. I tried to liven up the picture by giving him evil eyebrows and a beard at first but it wasn't really worth putting in like that.

Still haven't got my CD yetters.

  • 3 weeks later...

Some much late feedback for tonymg, many apologies.

Classical mix:

I knew none of these, but I liked tracks 3 and 7.

CD Mix:

1 Jangly, take it or leave it.

2 Sugarcubes. Nice, haven't heard this for ages.

3&4 No idea, didn't really like it

5 What's this? Bit different, made me chuckle!

6 Beasties? OK

7 Beck. Love those horns.

8 Old school baby. Nice.

9 Is this Dolly? Crazyness.

10 No idea what this is, liked it though.

11 Bjork again - nice.

12 No idea, pleasant but a bit bland.

13 Bleepy guitars - sounds a bit Autechre-y

14 Similar to track 12, sounds like Hank Marvin to start...

Overall:

A right mix up from up-beat to down-beat via country and a bit of electro! Not entirely my cup of tea but an interesting one that's had me scratching my head thinking about what the tracks are. Definately a leftfield selection I think, quite mellow too with a lot of guitar influence.

Best bit: tracks 10 and 11

Worst bit: tracks 3 and 4.

Hope that's of some interest, didn't really float my boat but was good because it was a bit different!

Cheers.
