Stumbled onto this cassette rip from 1995, a giveaway with DJ Magazine which I played a lot in my early teens.

https://www.discogs.com/Ray-Roc-Checco-Undisputed-Sampler/release/326203

Used Discogs/Youtube to finally listen to some of the tracks in full and unearthed another Phil Asher gem.

Basic Soul - Hi-Line: https://www.discogs.com/Basic-Soul-Lo-Line-Hi-Line/release/58910

This is a tidy Hammond organ groover too - Roc & Kato - Alright (RK & The Hatman's Rhythmix)

I can't find either of these on digital stores to buy. The Roc & Kato track was on the CD single but it's rare/expensive.

I found a compilation CD recently with a lovely Frankie Knuckles remix of Luther Vandross. Power of Love is a great pop song, but there's also a lovely piano driven instrumental on the 12" promo. It's on youtube, but it's a bad vinyl rip and played too fast, so here's the radio mix.

Also from the same CD was another catchy pop/house thing; a Todd Terry remix of 3T, who I believe were Jackson family relatives? Certainly sounds a bit MJ in places.

Shameless plug...

After picking up a Pioneer DDJ-SB2 last weekend, I have finally had a chance to throw a few tracks down, first time in about 7 years that I have used a proper controller with platters, was just using Native Instruments X1 and Z1's to tinker with, so this has been great, like riding a bike though, soon back on it.

It's all a bit deep and chilled, but let me know what you think.

Blast feat. VDC - Crazy Man (F.O.S. In Progress) is a big progressive house record from 1994. A fantastic production from Italy's Fathers of Sound.

I stumbled onto it after seeing a comment on the Discogs page for Rockmelons - Stronger Together, also from 1994. Allegedly, the Paul Gotel Epic Remix copied the Crazy Man remix. It's hard to disagree, but after listening to them both a fair few times this week, I ended up buying Crazy Man as it seems to have a bigger sounding production and a stronger vocal. Which do you prefer?

I've been trying to dip my toe into house recently, after really liking the last Yaeji mixtape thing (what we drew).

What are some good, non cheesy vocal, progressive and warm sounding records to look into? Preferable stuff that is still widely available on vinyl!

I listen to Graeme Park's Long Live House Music podcast every Friday, and about once every six months he plays something that just sticks in my head, and I have to track down.  This one is from last week.  Played it to my missus and she just shrugged, so maybe it's just me, but I love this.

My missus and I went to a festival called house and classics in St Albans a couple weeks ago. There were some great sets, not least Brandon Block and Ratpack. It all passed me by back in the day, but I love it now.

But were you standing in a corner?

Such a frustrating concept! All killers, but that Global Communication remix is on a different plane entirely. Could listen to that thing for hours. The 12” release has so much depth it blows my mind.

That’s one of the ones I bought. I already had an edited version on a Far Out compilation but it really warranted the full duration. I’ve listened several times but there seems to be very little of Jazz Carnival in there.

I remember reading a story once about Aphex Twin having a courier knock on his door asking to collect the NIN remix he was supposed to have done, but he’d forgotten and just sent him off with some random DAT tape instead. I can only presume they did the same thing there as it’s got basically zero of the original in!

EDIT: Saying that, I didn’t twig it was the 96 version rather than the 79, and listening to that now you can hear the Rhodes elements and a beefed up Azymuth synth string so I’ll take that back.

When I heard that story about that Aphex Twin remix, it was for The Lemonheads. And that he thought their track was shit.
