Especially with the amount of damage he's taken.

Did you watch the anime first?

Anyway, all my Initial D anime files are either .ogm or .mkv files with seperate subtitle files. Not sure how I can stream them to my telly combined? Also as I have an old Macbook I'm not sure how to stick the subtitles to the movie files so they're playable/streamable through a PS3.

I can't see how he's actually going to win this, Woli should've beaten him already. I don't want to see Ippo lose as taking him to the world stage would make for some very interesting fights but I honestly think I'll be quite annoyed if he wins the fight with some lucky punch

Same. That or bookdepository is usually where I get my comics and manga from. Occasionally if I'm looking for something that's harder to find in stock I'll look at some specialist comics sites or ebay too.

Guys, seeing as we can't actually get any proper discussion going these days can we either turn this into a manga thread or rename it to the new shonen jump "trilogy" wank fest?

Just saying like, it would be nice to come into the thread and see something other then the same formulaic post just cause a new chapter has been scanlated.

Would something along the lines of "The Weekly Manga Thread" be better? That's if people feel it would be best to splinter the manga talk. I do understand your annoyance but most of us who chat about manga I imagine read the latest chapters of "the big three" on release so that would cut across any conversation that has begun on any other manga. I guess the question has to be whether there is enough interest or valid discussion to be hand from creating seperate threads for every manga title someone might want to talk about.

The problem is that starting a discussion about other manga is pointless because it gets drowned out by people posting in massive bold fonts to say a chapter is out and then not actually discussing it properly other then to say it was good. If there was a proper discussion I'd not have noticed so much. Do we really need chapter by chapter updates mass updates of when people have read it? It's the bulk of most pages in this thread lately

To be fair, it's more along the lines of most people only reading the main three and that's it rather than them in particular stifling discussion.

I've had a few posts in the past mentioning other series as have a few others, (Hackign springing to mind) but tbh, it's a bit like spitting into a black hole.

Well, I'd say it's also harder for people to recommend series because it's far harder to pay attention to new series, what's being scannned, what's been discontinued etc compared to the anime thread.

I'm reading a bunch of different series but they're sometimes not updated for months so going off a massive fan wank about how awesome they are seems a bit of a moot point.

I don't think it's necessarily a case of being ignored. It could just be that nobody has an answer for you. I think that's an important distinction to make although, ultimately, it doesn't help you with your problem. ^_^

I don't think there's a problem with things as they stand. I can't really get involved in whatever discussion when the new manga is scanlated every week (hopefully I'll rectify that later in the year) but it's fairly painless for me to just skim through the posts. It's not like the thread is particularly fast moving in the first place that posts, about things others than the big three, will get lost amid pages and pages of those hyperbolic big-fonted posts.

I saw your recommendation post but declined to reply because, well, I've stopped giving out recommendations. I find I spend inordinate amounts of time looking through my collection seeing what will match people's criteria (not that yours were particularly picky) and constructing that post, and I just don't have that kind of time to spend at the moment. Also I think I'm not as well-versed in manga. I'd probably defer to someone like Jeff who seems like he reads far more than I do. Finally, I think you can do some of the grunt work yourself. Use sites like manga-updates search for a series you liked and check the recommendations that accompany that series entry, read the synopsis of those. I'm sure that'd give you a reasonable number of series to look at, which you could post in here for thoughts on. See if anyone would back those recommendations.

In summary: Mr. Jeff pretty much nailed it as usual.
