Nintendo DS Lite

At Game if you trade in your old DS you can get a Lite for £59.99.

Went to Gamestation and they are doing the standard trade in for a DS which the bloke behind the counter said was between £45 and £50. Don't take it for gospel though as he couldn't even give me a firm trade in price.

In my local Gamestation the DS section is right at the front now. Used to be near the back, not hidden, but near the back next to retro.

Now you walk in see the new release stand and straight next to it the DS stuff.

Has GAME become some kind of bizzaro world or has Nintendo started forking over the cash? The DS section in the princes street GAME in Edinburgh is now at the very front of the store, pushing back the PSP and PS2 sections. Is the DS just more popular now?

I imagine GAME would be trying to cash in on the renewed interest in the DS/DS lite, even if it is only for the first fortnight.

DS lite, sir?

I just think the DS is outperforming everything else at the minute, it certainly is in the store I work in. Its great to see people embracing the console, as it really does deserve every bit of success.

Anyway, got my Lite today and it really is a sexy bit of plastic. :P

I did this pre-prder deal last week. Will they only accept the old DS if it's boxed with all the extra bits do you think? Ie, will i need to give the Metroid Prime Hunters demo etc as well? This isn't a problem, it just means gathering together the scattered bits.

A local Gamerush her ein northern Italy had the craziest idea ever: in order to counterattack the Ebgames offer (your old Ds and 69 € and you've got a new Lite) they decided to give you a Ds Lite if you let go your old Ds and 39 € ( I mean the old Ds + circa 27 £ ). Not to mention an even crazier idea that your old GBA SP is worth a new "old" NDS plus 29 €. but then you could use the new offer above!!! So for a mere 70 € ( 48 £ + an old GBA SP) you can have a black or white Lite!!

I've ordered two!

Check out your local Gamerush ( Blockbuster) maybe they are going LoCoRocO even in UK!

Well, I think it's about time I picked one of these up really.

I've actually never really used one aside from a couple of very quick goes on Nintendogs. Anyone care to mention how the thing works for left handed players?

I'm thinking of games like Metroid where it looks like you have to use both stylus and controller at the same time?

Of course, I'm probably wrong here, but please enlighten me!

It's fine, you just use the face buttons for moving and the stylus with your left hand.

Brain Age also has an option for left handers, basically turning the screens round so not to obscure the other screen when writing. I'm guessing that most games where the stylus is used a lot has the control scheme for lefties.

No worries for lefites like us. Most game have options to sort both varietys of folk. In Ouendan theres the option to choose which side of the screen to put your combo counter for example.

So I shouldnt be worried about the touch screens on the lite moving when you use them?

After promising myself that I wouldn't succumb to the temptation of 'shiny new thing', I went and got a DS Lite (white) from Gamesman in Wellington last week. I picked it up for NZ$249 and I've currently got my old DS up for auction.

The new screen is excellent and the size of the console is much better for my hands.

However, I do prefer the feel of the old D-pad and buttons. The new ones have much more travel in them and aren't as firm. It'll take some adjusting to.

What game should I get next. I've got three games at the moment: Ouendan, Advance Wars DS and New Super Mario Bros.

I was looking at: Mario and Luigi Partners in Time, Nintendogs, Kirby Canvas Curse and Animal Crossing.

Which of those four would you say was best?

I'm looking forward to getting my mitts on a lite this Friday (after the import debacle, I decided to wait) and I'm hoping for any decent bundles.

Can folks keep their eyes peeled for UK shop deals and post in here?

Ta.

Same here. I've already got a copy of Mario Kart waiting to be played. It can't come soon enough.

Had a little go on one of these in GAME today. Seems you can download a Brain Training demo from the demo stand too, which is rather neat. Might have to do that on Friday when I buy mine.

They even had a demo stand in the smallest independent shop in town. Quite surprised me that Nintendo actually bothered.

Is it just me that prefers the old DS D-Pad? The new one has much more travel in it and it's harder to get diagonals. ;)

Nope - I prefer the original D-Pad too and it was the one thing I found immediately difficult. I like the flatness of the original as its easier to make little taps and it doesn't feel like its going to break.

Still getting a Black DS on friday though - the other improvements far outweigh my personal niggles.

I agree that the other enhancements do outweight the niggle with the D-pad. The new size, the (seemingly) improved build quality, the new screen. All fantastic. My only niggle is the D-pad - it really is hard to get reliable diagonals in something like AC:WW.

I prefer the D-Pad on the Lite. I couldn't stand the feel of it on the DS, so hard and no play. The Lites feels very much like the GB Micro D-Pad, which I love to pieces. I have no trouble finding the diagonals, and the looseness actually makes it feel more accurate. It's more or less perfect in my eyes, and thumb.
