Gotta put a vote in for Condemned on the 360.

I finished it last night and i dont think a game has made me jump so much in a long time.

Great use of 5.1 and great atmosphere all round. Especially in a house alone and in the dark.

Good work Sega.

Terrifying.

Especially when the big worm ate you from underneath.

Friday the 13th shit me on the c64 as well. It has a surprise digitised screen of jason's mask and a machete through it, along with a really loud digitised scream that only happens now and again. One night, playing it in the dark, one of the campers gets it, that appears and I nearly shat myself. It never happened again, and I've never known anyone else that has experienced this. Part of me wonders whether I fell asleep (the game was dire) and dreamt it. Part of me, though, knows it was real.

i posed this in harmunt's thread about his nephew but it would be suitable here.

I played the silent hill demo when i was about 11.

That scared the crap out of me but was one of the most memorable (literally) gaming experiences i've had.

This was partially due to it being late at night and i wasn't really supposed to be playing it so i was extremely paranoid about being caught. Naturally i was very jumpy.

I still remember walking down that side alley at the beginning and finding a gurney abandoned by a chain link fence covered in blood, haunting and bizarre enough to make you think 'what the... this can't be good'.

And then going into the cafe and finding the radio, only to think i was being paranoid when i saw out of the corner of my eye what looked like a flying thing swoop past the front window for a fraction of a second. moments after i walk to the window to investigate the radio starts giving off a static buzz. Much more effective at scaring me than any cry or roar the monster might have.

And also wondering around the school with little fucking ghost children trying to stab me, but being too scared to escape to the central courtyard because i thought that flying thing was perched on the roof overlooking it.

i never in fact played the full game, but did play a fair bit of silent hill 2 at a friends. that hospital....
