The Unofficial Aston Villa thread!

To be honest, Villa fans have the same complex as most Liverpool* or Newcastle

*Obviously since they won the European Cup they're allowed, to some degree, to state "we should have won that" or similar :D

And the fact that we've won more trophies than any other team in the last five years, that one too...

It was always on the cards. Teams who have lost their managers are always trouble to come up against.

By all accounts we were outplayed in the first 45 but rallied in the second half...missing a penalty and losing is a bit of a hard one to take.

Mind you, how do you think the Baggies are feeling after their mauling by Fulham? At least we can take some confidence from being pipped rather than battered.

AWWW WTF!

Against the run of play we had the poor half of Manchester beaten then they get an uber jammy last second corner when the ref should have blown up a few minutes before. I can't see us doing them over at their ground so another season dissapears over the horizon.

Still it's not all bad, Ellis is nearly dead and the noses look likely to go down.

Article from a Charlton fan used with kind permission by Frankie. Link to his Charlton site: **Frankie Valley**

I can't remember when I read something so refreshingly honest from an opposition fan with reference to Villa, see what you think:

'Apparently so, according to that respected football sage David O'Leary. We're two teams competing for the same prizes, working within similar budgetary constraints, and targeting the same players in the transfer market.

In which case, let's all be thankful that Villa just beat us to it in the race to capture the signatures of Angel and Baros eh? Whew - that was close! And funnily enough, I didn't hear anything in the media about Villa being in for Darren 'Budget Buy' Bent last summer, either - maybe they couldn't afford the £2.5m? In fact, I can't recall any occasion when we've been competing with Villa for a player's signature. Do you know what? I suspect that our idea of being strapped for cash and Villa's idea of being strapped for cash are two completely different things....

David, my friend - a word in your ear. At a time when your club is desperately scouring the world for some rich sugar-daddy to come in and chuck shedloads of money around and buy you some success a la Chelsea, is it wise to be trying to re-brand the Mighty Aston Villa as some tin-pot club that can barely compete with the likes of lil ol' Charlton? I don't think so!

Face it Dave - Villa is not a little club. Never has been - never will be. Villa? Small and plucky? In your dreams mate...'

end.......

Yeah, but at least we have that under our belt anyway, eh?

The following season Villa beat Barcelona in a two-legged Super Cup after which, Morley recalled, Diego Maradona sent his agent to the dressing room to get Gary Shaw's shirt

Can anyone with mad photoshop skillz put Maradona in a Villa shirt? I think I would die, in a good way.

What are the chances of us getting Milner full time?

I haven't got to any games this season but feedback from mates who have would say he's been a much-needed spark for us.

It will be an absolute wounder if we lose the fella. I heard recently it was down to money but I don't even know if the Toon would let him go or whether he would sign.

We've a decent chance of getting him IMO. For a number of reasons.

Would Milner be content to sit on the bench at the Toon? Do they really need him? I would have a thought signing a forward would be of paramount importance to them.

My only worry is whether the funds would be available. Who remembers how we almost signed Juninho and Robbie Keane?

Allegedly, the 'toon are willing to let him go for £3 million.

Depends how much Doug gives Dolly to spend, and where O'Leary reckons we need strengthening.

I doubt if Laursen will play again, so a new centre half will surely be priority, and that may eat up most of the budget. Unless Laursen was insured, and we get our money back.

Laursen is the new Ivo Stas.

Things aren’t looking any better guys, the Villa and us fans are facing a relegation battle this weekend, only a win against the old enemy (WEST BROM – we love you really) will keep us afloat. O’Leary isn’t the real problem, its Doug Ellis – he’s using O’Leary in the same way he’s used past Villa managers, like a smoke screen, each time sacking the manager to alleviate the pressure from himself.

I’ve been watching the Villa since 1987, and have watched this pattern unfold many times. Doug has always stripped Villa to its bare minimum, past managers have never been given enough backing or the real investment needed to take Villa onto the next level, we used to have some really good players at the Villa and now we have eleven overpaid fat wankers, all the good players have gone, replaced by shite like Gavin Mcann and Liam Ridgewell.

Villa has a very good chance of staying up, but until Doug sells the club it’ll be the same story over and over again...

Doug Ellis, croak you bastard…

Over recent weeks, even I have had to finally admit that we are shit.

Mind you, all will be well in the world if we beat the Baggies and the shit.

Then we really need to get the players around our (decent enough) spine sorted out during the summer or it's relegation for us next year.

Villa is so bad these days, I don't even want to watch highlights in last 3 games.

Even you would have enjoyed the Arsenal goals. Henry's two and Van Persie's were amazing.

I'd like to know what Villa fans really expect from O'leary. I mean, the Club makes fuck all funds available. Deadly Doug takes running a football club as a business to ridiculous extremes. What could any other manager do?

Well, Doug has quite often fucked things up for managers. He deffo did for Gregory but I'm not so sure when it comes to DOL.

He has had money to spend and he hasn't always spent it wisely. So many of our players grow stale or make no progress whatsoever and he is simply too negative. I only hope he's better with the players but judging by the way we play, I doubt it.

Doug Ellis should be made accountable for choosing shit manager after shit manager (Fat chance, major shareholder)...

He does'nt trust the manager he's appointed, especially when it comes to spending money on new players, This is the TWAT making decisions for our club...

Please tell me this is all a dream and Doug Ellis isn't really the Villa Chairman of the club I love.

We just got useless manager and chairman.

A manager who was in the Champions League semi final not so long ago...

Decent team he had though:

Nigel Martyn

Danny Mills

Rio Ferdinand

Dominic Matteo

Ian Harte

Eirik Bakke

Olivier Dacourt

David Batty

Harry kewell

Mark Viduka

Alan Smith

Paul Robinson

Jonathan Woodgate

Gary Kelly

Stephen McPhail

Jacob Burns

With the likes of Bowyer and Radebe aswell.

I know I watch Real Madrid V Leeds at the Bernabeu stadium a few years ago. Wonderful game.
