So, still 4th place despite a dreadful lack of finishing against Fulham but no suprise there given our dire record in derby's and ability to capitulate like ratbags at the most inopportune time.

Whats needed IMHO is a proper left back for starters and a striker who doesn't vanish in January/Feb.

One has to wonder why a potential answer to one of those questions has been loaned to Wigan, particualr as Reid is a stone overweight and simply no good anyway. As for the guy we bought from Derby that was the worst panic buy since the days of Francis.

I don't fancy our chances against Charlton as I believe they are a better side than their placeing (even given curb's baffling tinkering and Redknapp type player trading seemingly for the sake of it) but if we can get our stuff together we should beat them and hopefully start winning again.

Any thoughts?

well, i hope mido will sign permanently. he won't disappear every season, after all. that said, we do need someone better than rasiak as a backup.

i want to see what ghaly is like. hopefully he'll turn out to be a good signing, although i suppose if he's too good, he'll end up disappearing with mido!

as for a left back, i do like lee, but could do with someone else as well. lee seems great pushing forwards but a bit less great at actually defending. would be nice to have someone else the other way round for certain matches.

but overall, it's been a good season so far. and this brings a smile to my face, poor old judas ;)

Hoooooo-ray ! A Spurs thread ;)

I think the left and right backs are a little light and im surprised more teams havent exposed this - i guess its just that there are not many wingers in footie these days.

Murphy is a good buy imo, good player and another quality free-kick taker.

Charlton is a game we need to win, end the baron spell and give us a cushion over the Arse. My Sisters partner is a Spurs fan and will be there on Sunday (funny how i live in Norwich and i have a uncle and potential brother in law as Spurs fans)

But overall a very good season so far, we are generally beating teams we should and thats been our downfall for years !

The interesting thing for myself is that Lee, our left back plays as a right winger for South Korea and is very right footed.

In someways I'd like to see him on the right and someone like Bridge (yeah some hope) on the left as the man is class if injury prone right now.

Frankly I expect the gooners to sooner or later overhaul us and make us forget our CL aspirations for another year or to thoroughly rub our noses in it by winning the CL (even though you can normally set your watch by their exit) with us finishing 4th and never hearing the end of it (Again)...

i knew lee was right footed, but i didn't realise he played on the right for korea. he was a left back at psv too wasn't he? it'd be nice to see what he could do on the right.

probably right about arsenal... but so far, every time i start to get worried (like after losing to fulham), they go and screw something up too. so you never know ;)

i suppose i'm just setting myself up for disappointment. but hey, at least this season i can still imagine it's possible in february, usually my dreams have been shattered long before now!

For Left Backs, maybe maybe we could get Bridge off Chelski in the Summer. He'd certainly play a lot more, and if they get Cole off of Arsenal then he'll be bench-warming if he doesn't move. Probably get some stiff competition, though.

Strikers is a bit more of a problem. We really need Defoe to step up and show why he's such a good player, especially whilst Mido's on international duty.

Edit - Reid out for 6 weeks+

Great finally a spurs thread!

I would like to se Udineses Vincenzo Iaquinta to join, he is big, strong, fast and mentally strong. He will leave in the summer for a bigger club and will probably join whoever pays the most, but that shouldn’t be a problem ;)

I also want Olof Mellberg to join; he deserves a better team than Aston Villa ;)

and Ballack in midfield

Our problem has always been a lack of real physical presence throughout the spine of the team and this has been addressed to some extent this season with the arrival of Mido and Davids. However, recent perfomances have showed how much we miss Mido's strong hustling style of play up front, what with Defoe/Keane being too lightweight for the task and Rasiak being about as much use as an ice bridge over a volcano.

I fully expect a Uefa Cup place this season but not a Champion's League place.

I've nothing really to add except to say that I was at Anfield recently for the Liverpool vs Spurs game. For me Mido, Carrick and King & Dawson especially where your stand out players that day. But Jenas is never going to be a right midfielder / winger and the continued ommision of Defoe baffles me. There's possibly some substance in the continuing stories regarding Cisse for Spurs and Defoe for Liverpool. From our point of view I hope this happens.

Cisse is crap, he's fast but so what for an expensive striker he simply doesn't score enough goals and if we want a striker that can't/doesn't score we'd hopefully go for Alan Smith or Heskey as at least they'd be the physical presence Jol likes.

If a team like Liverpool don't want him then it's because he's not good enough end of story.

We've got too many central midfielders and were trying to accomodate them all - but then better wide players would force the issue and make Jol place some of them on the bench.

It's a real shame marney's crocked.

I must say that the atmosphere is excellent at White Heart Lane; I get to go to at least a couple of games a season thanks to my season ticket holding mate and have joined him on the road once or twice as well. You really do your club proud both home and away.

Good win for us today, we usually do badly against Charlton. At 3-0 up we just stuck it in 5th gear and cruised it, looked like if we needed to score we could but where happy to le Charlton have a kickaround in front of us !

Defoe looked sharp and 2 goals will do him the world of good  A game we would lose in seasons past shows how far we have come this season.

Good result for us on Sunday, missing quite a few people out of injury, I was worried we might lose this. Fortunately Defoe was on form, and getting a goal at the start of the 2nd half probably killed off Charlton's hope.

our 2nd 'double' of the season. Nice to get it against a team like Charlton.

Off to Sunderland next week, hopefully we won't slip up there!

As long as we're consistent and don't fall into the same old trap of losing to crap teams and also do poorly against good ones, then *hopefully* we should be good for 4th at the end of the season. Seeing Champions League football in the blue-and-white half of North London will be excellent!

Wot a plonker.  Ah well, as you say, at least we get him back (early).  Only thing is who will make way for him, Defoe or Keane?

Tricky one that, I guess he'll go back to Mido and Keane, stick Defoe on as a sub again and if he scores like he did last game give him another chance.

It's good to have Mido back but from reading that link seems the success of Spurs might have gone to his head a little.

I thought he was going to Southampton on loan? We won't get any money unless they decided to buy him at the end of the season.

As for Mido, is he back in the country or will he be at the African Nations Cup Final (in the stands, obviously)?

He is off on loan, but apparently they tried to buy him in January. Jol wouldn't sell him because Mido was away.

Rasiak'll probably do better for Saints than he was for us anyway. He scored 19 for Derby last season, seems the Championship is his level of football.
